Jax's POV
I paced in the private waiting room of the pack hospital whilst Jaz remained with Callie as the Doctors looked her over.
My wolf was screaming at me to go to her but I couldn't bring myself to it.
There were so many uncertainties around Callie and her sudden appearance at our club.
Was she after something? Did she know we were mates?
My mind raced with endless possibilities.
And then there was Jaz. We grew up together, I'd always loved her, in a way I thought we'd be fated mates. But on our 18th birthdays when our wolves didn't react I had to push that dream aside.
This morning, when our father mentioned choosing a Luna my mind automatically thought of Jaz. She was kind, sympatheic, funny and beautiful. She would have made a perfect Luna for our pack.
And now Callie has turned up out of nowhere seemingly and our wolves respond to her, but she has no wolf? How could this be the state of lives right now when we're supposed to be taking over the pack in a few weeks.
A knock at the door brought me out of my deep thoughts.
"Come in" Alfie said almost eagerly.
I knew he was worried too, we'd always been close I could read him inside and out, we seemed to know and understand each other best just as Kane and Knox did. Although Alfie and I were the most composed and mature, we thought before acting whereas Knox seemed to be fuelled by emotions, especially anger and Kane, well he was juvenile, great at business but was a fantasist.
"Alphas" the doctor bowed slightly to us. The look of concern etched on her face told me this was serious.
"The young wolf you brought in to me did not suffer a heart episode, in fact her heart is perfectly healthy and strong" the doctor said matter of factly.
My brother and I exchanged confused looks. Knox's fists balled at his sides he was seething -"so she lied about an illness to get into backlands!" He growled.
The doctor continued, ignoring Knox's outburst.
"She did pass out, that is true, it seems her family doctor has been prescribing her suppressants and masking them as medications for a fabricated illness."
Alfie mind linked me-" suppressants? She really didn't know about wolves and packs"
"Apparently not, and we dropped it all on her whilst accusing her of a crime" I replied
"And how do we know this isn't an elaborate plan to get close to us?!" Knox bellowed
Another knock at the door, this time Jaz entered. She looked exhausted, I wanted to go to her but my wolf growled at the thought so I stayed put.
"Callie really had no idea about any of us. When I told her that she had a wolf, she looked like her head would explode.. you can't fake that type of reaction … my gut is saying we trust her." Jaz said matter of factly.
"Who is this WE you speak of? You're nothing to do with this little pup so get out!" Knox growled at Jaz
My wolf hackles were raised. "Do NOT speak to her that way!" I bellowed. Knox, still agitated turned and carried on pacing , ignoring our presence.
" So what do we do now?" Kane and Alfie said in unison.
I looked at them for a moment. "We train her."
My three brother stared at me like I had suddenly grown two heads. Jaz had a smirk on her face like she knew her task before I'd even said it.
"I'll get started right away Alpha" Jaz spoke confidently before leaving the waiting room.
"Alpha's I must advise you this will take time. I'm not certain how long Callie has been on those suppressants. If she's never met her wolf then they need to get to know each other and learn to trust one another… otherwise she my not be able to shift" the Doctors words were clear.
They rang in my ears for a moment, my breathing seemed to stop altogether. A Luna. Our Luna , needs to be able to shift according to the elder council otherwise we'll be forced to take a chosen mate.
My brothers looked at me again, panic, confusion and frustration bubbling at the surface in each of them.
"We must go to her, and earn her trust." I looked to Knox "Be nice, shove your uncertainty down" then to Kane " This is not a game, our future as alphas depend on it." I gave Alfie a nod and we moved to find Callie.
