Synopsis
Mythological Beats. Wait no,.. Mythological BEASTS. Yeah, that's right. You know the ones. Monsters, giants, spirits, faes, they come in all shapes and sizes. I'd had my fill of media featuring such beasts. But there's one thing I'll tell you, coming face to face with them is not very enjoyable. When I found out I was in the Percy Jackson universe, I wasn't very thrilled about the fact. After all, this was a universe where a divine war was constantly threatening to break out over the west. And to save the lives of millions of people, the Greek Pantheon would often choose 11 year olds. Yeah. It was pretty bad. And of course, to top it all off, horrific monsters were constantly crawling out of hell to feast on mortals and demigods alike. But there was one good thing that came out of it. Just the one. Now, I have a goal in mind. The goal is to punch Zeus right in the face! And how will I accomplish that? Why, of course by completing my bestiary! The more monsters I kill, the better I become! Get ready to be bitch slapped you small d*ck Olympian! ... ... Percy Jackson Fic(Riordan Extended Verse, specifically). Add this to your library; you don't wanna miss it.

Chapter 1 - System Activation

[User has reached 18 years of age]

[System Activation is in progress...]

Looking at the translucent glowing screen in front of him, Nathan finally felt that things were looking up for him.

Nathan Hill. That was his name. At least that was his name in this life.

He was a reincarnated person from the 21st century Earth. His previous named mattered not. He had died when he was outside taking his morning walk; when a piano had been thrown at his head from a building.

Weird for sure. Especially since he had seen the piano coming and had frozen up instead of moving out of the way. The momentary hesitation had cost him his life. In that moment, he thought he was done for.

But for some reason; he didn't know what, he had been reincarnated into another world. One that was in the early 1900s and was practically the same as his previous world.

Now, one might ask: Nathan, if the world is in the 1900s and was the same in all respects, why assume it's another world? Why not another timeline?

Well to that he would answer: 1) Because there are monsters everywhere.

And 2) Because he has his very own system. One that has the name: Monster Hunter System.

Let's back track a bit.

Nathan Hill was born on 18th September, 1929. He was born to Emily Hill and Richard Hill. They all lived in New York and considering the time, things were pretty good for the most part. 1900s was largely one of the better times to be living in; but only after the war.

And lo and behold, war was right on the corner.

But during his childhood, war wasn't the most of his worries. His worries were... well, monsters to put it lightly.

People who looked just... plain wrong. Birds with gleaming copper beaks; vultures with human faces; pale women with a goat hoof and a metallic leg; there were all kinds of them. And apparently, other people couldn't see them.

Nathan couldn't as well. But as he grew up, his ability to see through their strange hide outs became more and more prominent. It wasn't until he was 9 years old, when he saw a gigantic golden lion and some giants with a single eye, that he figured out where he was.

He was in the Percy Jackson world.

Now, provided, he had never actually finished the work. He had only read through the first book - the Lightning Thief and had some experience with browsing the wiki for a few short hours. And so, he knew... some of the major events and enough about the world; but there were a few things in particular that bothered him. Gods and Mythology in this world was real. And the upcoming war would be caused by the children of the Big Three of the Greek Pantheon.

Immediately, as if to confirm his suspicion, the system had activated only to give him a single notification.

[System will activate once user reaches 18 years of age]

Not long after that, the war started and Pearl Harbour was bombed. His father had been enlisted by the military and promptly been killed after a year of service.

His mother had done her best to raise him afterwards; which wasn't very difficult, all things considered - due to his nature as a reincarnated individual.

But real trouble came when he turned 16.

His mother had been diagnosed with a heart disease. And in the current times, when healthcare was nowhere near as developed as it would be, it was... well, it was less than ideal.

Nathan tried his best, but after the war ended, his mother passed away quietly in her sleep on the hospital bed.

He was 17 then. He had quite a bit of left after his parents' passing; including a house, 9 thousand dollars and a bike.

He had lived somewhat comfortably, knowing that when the system arrived, his life could change for the better or worse; depending on how he went about using it.

And now was the time. 18th September, 1947.

It was the start of the golden age for Western Civilization; a period of rapid development following the world war, where economy would undergo a rapid ascent and life would improve in all sorts of ways.

It was also going to be the time when Nathan would be starting his journey.

He knew of the dangers all around. He had almost died from a monster during his teen years, so one might even say he understood the danger exceedingly well.

For that very reason, he hoped to have the strength to protect himself. He only wanted to live a peaceful life. Have a big house, a lot of money and a loving wife and children.

Now, the system activation would give him the strength to live more comfortably. There was also another wish he had... but that's for later.

As he sat on the couch of his house, he could not help but brace himself for the activation.

Eventually, the long awaited chime sounded in his ears and the screen once again flashed before his eyes.

[System Activation complete!]

[Monster Hunter System is online!]

[You have gained the Apprentice Hunter's Satchel!]

[You have gained one Perk Point!]

[You have gained one Customization Point!]

Taking in the rapid influx of notifications, Nathan calmed his beating heart and spoke with a palpable excitement.

"Status."

The screens flashed before him again; this time, showcasing a picture of himself in a 3d view. To the right of the image was a string of text.

[Name: Nathan Hill

Occupation: None

Earned Titles: None

Perks: None

Skills: None

Physical Conditions:

Fitness: 0

Spirit: 0

Insight: 0]

Finally, at the far upper right corner, there was a small question mark.

Scratching his chin in thought; he clicked onto the question mark and another few lines of text appeared before his eyes.

Nathan read through it all quickly.

It mainly described the three stats and the difference between skills and perks.

It also went over the normal gist of how the system was supposed to function.

Fitness was the overall physical power of the body. It contained all aspects; strength, agility, flexibility, endurance, dexterity, regenerative force, etc.

Spirit went over the spiritual aspect, containing willpower, focus, mystical sense, magic susceptibility, etc.

And lastly, Insight represented the mental aspects. Thinking speed, intelligence, mindfulness, instinct, attention, memory and perception.

As for the rest; skills was self explanatory - certain abilities or moves that give him an advantage over not having them.

Perks were special advantages provided by the system that could be in-built into the body or the spirit. They could offer certain advantages that would not normally be possible with skills and generally served as buffs to either his stats or some set skills.

Titles and occupation were also self explanatory. Based on what he received, he would gain the appropriate perks and skills for them and may even gain some stats for it.

Finally, the core mechanic of the system.

The system had a certain currently called 'Customization Points.' These customization points could be used to make literally anything.

Literally. Anything.

So long as enough Customization points were spent, Nathan could make himself a god.

Oh? How were these points gained? Well of course by killing monsters!

The more monsters he killed, the greater points he would receive. Naturally, the monsters he hunted down would give him different points based on how mythologically important they were and how well they are remembered in the current times.

"Seems like a pretty busted system... Let's see. Open the Apprentice Hunter's Satchel." Nathan spoke.

[Opening the Apprentice Hunter's Satchel...]

[You have gained a Bow!]

[You have gained an Enchanted Quiver!]

[You have gained 30 Enchanted Arrows!]

[You have gained Celestial Bronze Sword!]

[You have gained the Perk: Monster Lore!]

[You have gained the Skill: Archery!]

[You have gained the Skill: Swordplay!]

[You have gained the Job: Hunter!]

[You have gained the Perk: Hunter's Instinct!]

As the notifications continued to flash in his eyes, Nathan felt his head spin a bit.

His eyes became muddled and the world seemed to blur into a whirlpool of swirling colours.

And then, just as fast as it had begun, the world snapped back into place. Nathan sat dumbly on the couch for a few heartbeats before he spoke again.

"Whoa..." He said.

He felt... revived. He felt new information in his head that he had never learned. His eyes seemed more focused and his sense of smell seemed enhanced. His senses completely opened up and the world looked like a new place.

With a grin, he looked back to the system screen and reviewed his status again.
