At ten at night, León left El Faro, ready to head home!
Eva Ferrer had rung today, very happy, and excitedly told him she'd received an offer from the Law Faculty of the University of Barcelona, and asked León to come home and celebrate!
So León was getting ready to go back early, but when he walked out of the bar, in a car across the road, two men were holding up a photo and comparing it with León!
"Is that him?"
"Should be. The Sala network's new lieutenant, León Vidal!"
"Out!"
With that, two men in black jackets opened the car doors and slowly followed in the direction León had gone.
There were quite a lot of people on the street at this hour, and the two hitmen meant to find somewhere quieter.
But what they didn't know was that León had been a scout, and he spotted the pair of them within a few steps.
"Two targets, about thirty, carrying guns!" León observed secretly.
"Must be the hitmen Caballo Díaz hired. He moved fast!"
He'd only just heard the news from Big Mouth Paco, and he hadn't expected Caballo Díaz's hitmen to turn up at his door already.
Seemed he couldn't wait to see him dead!
In an instant León thought of many things. He quietly left the street and walked into a remote, dimly lit alley.
"Go on, keep up!"
The two hitmen quickly followed. The alley was quiet and dim, the perfect place to do it.
The two slid their hands inside their jackets and quietly thumbed off their safeties.
But what they didn't expect was that the moment they stepped into the alley, there was a sudden rush of air.
Out of the darkness, León appeared less than a metre away from them, a dagger in his hand.
Both their faces changed, and they went to pull their pistols and fire.
But León was faster still. Like a ghost he was on them, slashing the dagger at one man's wrist.
"Crack!"
There was a crisp sound of bone being severed. The man's wrist was cut clean through, and hand and pistol fell to the ground together.
Then came the scream.
"Argh!"
Having cut off one man's hand, León didn't give the other any chance to fire. His movements never paused.
Turning, the dagger slashed across the vulnerable neck. The carotid artery burst, and blood spurted like a fountain.
The alley was narrow, the light dim, the space tight. In terrain like this, a pistol wasn't necessarily better than a dagger.
In just two short breaths, in a clash as quick as a spark from flint, one hitman was dead and one wounded.
The hitman whose hand had been cut off lay on the ground screaming over and over, his face white, his eyes full of terror.
"Ahh~ help~"
He gripped the artery at his elbow with his remaining hand, trying everything he could to stay alive a little longer.
In his eyes León simply wasn't human. How could a normal person kill two of them in an instant!
He hadn't even had a chance to fire!
"Don't kill me, I'll tell you everything, it was Caballo Díaz put us up to it, please spare me!"
The hitman struggled onto his knees and begged over and over.
But at this point, how could León let him go!
He'd seen León kill with his own eyes; let him go and turn state's witness?
"You don't need to tell me. I know Caballo Díaz sent you!"
León said softly, stepping closer.
"No~ you'll have to die!"
Seeing that León wasn't going to let him go, the man panicked even more, scrambled up and ran for the mouth of the alley.
But a leather shoe came down on his back and pinned him to the ground again.
"Don't be nervous. Take a deep breath, relax, I'll be quick!"
"Caballo Díaz will be joining you soon!"
León said in a devilishly gentle voice, then grabbed him by the hair, pulled his head back and drew the dagger across his throat.
The screams stopped at once, and the body gurgled blood.
The alley was quiet again. Only León stood there quietly under the dim light.
Hearing the screams, many people in the flats on both sides were secretly watching from their windows, but no one dared make a sound.
People died in feuds in Barcelona almost every day, and they were used to it.
Afraid of reprisals, nobody wanted trouble; at most they'd ring the Guardia Civil.
After killing the two, León picked up their pistols, both with full magazines.
Each of them also had a spare magazine, each loaded with seven rounds.
This was León's trophy: two Tokarev pistols and twenty-eight rounds.
It was perfect timing. Right now León needed a gun for self-defence!
Putting away the two pistols and looking at the two bodies, León decided not to leave the Guardia Civil any evidence.
Get rid of the bodies!
For an ordinary person that was a lot of trouble: pour petrol over them and burn them, or get a car to take them to the shore and sink them.
But for León it was extremely simple, because he had a cheat!
Taking hold of the two bodies, León appeared in the space warehouse with a thought, dropped the bodies there, and left the alley.
He'd find time to set them in concrete and dump them in the sea, and make them disappear completely!
So all that was left in the alley were two pools of blood, and from that alone no one could prove León had killed anyone.
He went back to the bar, showered, washed off the smell of blood and took a taxi home.
As soon as he came through the door, before he could even sit down, a soft body leapt up at him, wrapped its arms round his neck and hung off him.
Eva noticed nothing wrong at all, and had no idea that just now two lives had ended at León's hands.
All she could think about was getting into the University of Barcelona. She was so excited she couldn't contain herself and badly needed to share it with León.
"Why are you back so late? I've been waiting ages for you!"
Eva pouted and said coquettishly, her big eyes looking up at León all misty.
"Aren't I back now? Just now~"
But before León could finish, his mouth was stopped with a kiss.
What Eva wanted wasn't his explanation, but his actions.
