Chapter 15 - Chapter 14 — Oh No, My Husband's Back

A handsome man can do as he likes.

Looks are justice!

Just now León had taken on four at once, and even pulled a pistol and nearly blown off el Toro's family jewels.

A ruthless fella like that meant safety in Ivonne Stack's eyes.

León didn't know what these girls were thinking, but he certainly wasn't going to turn down such a good thing.

After leaving the bar, the three of them got into León's car.

He'd only bought it two days ago. It wasn't a good car, just a fairly ordinary SEAT, which had cost him over a hundred thousand pesetas.

He had taken four million pesetas off Caballo Díaz. It was neither a fortune nor a trifle, but it was more than enough for a luxury car.

But León thought it unnecessary. He was only at the start of his career and had to focus on big things.

When he really had money later, he'd have all the luxury cars, helicopters and yachts he wanted.

So he'd bought an ordinary car to get about in for now.

"Drop Angie home first! She lives at 23 Carrer de Provença!"

As soon as they got in, Ivonne spoke first, and León nodded lightly.

But Ángela Carey gave Ivonne an odd look, though she said nothing.

"So what do you two do?" After leaving the car park, León started chatting with the two beauties.

"I won't tell you. Why don't you guess?" Ivonne said.

"Hmm~"

León pretended to think, and said slowly, "You're both so beautiful, you carry yourselves so well, and you've lovely figures."

"I'd say you're air hostesses!"

"Oh! How did you know?" Ángela's mouth fell open in surprise, her eyes full of astonishment.

They'd never told León what they did! They'd only just met today!

"Lucky guess! Seems I guessed right!" León said, as if it were nothing.

He laughed secretly to himself. Of course he knew; he had a cheat.

Ángela Carey's beauty would sweep Barcelona for a whole era; who in later years wouldn't know her!

Before she became a star, she'd been an air hostess!

And now, going by her age, she definitely hadn't gone into showbusiness yet!

"You're amazing!"

The three of them chatted, and twenty minutes later the car stopped outside a block of flats.

It was an ordinary block, Ángela's home.

"Bye, I'll head up. Good night!"

Ángela opened the car door, said goodbye and walked slowly up the stairs.

León said good night and didn't play the pushy admirer. He wasn't so full of himself as to suggest coming up for a cup of tea or anything like that.

He could see Ángela's personality was different from Ivonne's. This beauty was more reserved; she'd need to be won over slowly and gently.

Besides, they'd only met today, and there was plenty of time ahead. León had patience.

Ivonne was even more direct. Once she saw Ángela get out, she moved to the front passenger seat and gave León an address.

At that moment León gave her an odd look too.

This beauty was definitely above an eighty-five, a lovely girl, and not as cool as Ángela; she seemed more mature.

But her place was obviously closer than Ángela's! Yet she'd had him drop Ángela home first.

Not too obvious, then!

…

"This is your place? It's pretty big!"

Looking at the villa in front of him, León said.

It was a two-storey house with gardens, completely different from Caballo Díaz's self-built place.

Though the location was a bit out of the way, it must be worth twenty-five million pesetas.

An air hostess like Ivonne was that rich?

"It's all right!" Ivonne didn't say much about the house, but asked León with her lovely eyes.

"Would you like to come up for a cup of tea?"

"Won't I be in the way?"

"Not at all. I live here on my own, and it's quite scary!"

The car was parked in the drive, and the two walked into the house together.

The lights came on upstairs, and figures showed against the curtains. The man sat on the sofa drinking tea, while the sound of running water came from the bathroom.

Before long the running water stopped, and everything was so natural and harmonious!

Early morning!

The sun shone into the room onto the big white bed.

The man and woman were fast asleep. After all, their battle hadn't ended until it was nearly morning.

After less than three hours' sleep, the silent house was broken by the blare of a car horn.

León's eyes opened instantly. He lifted a corner of the curtain and looked down, and saw the iron gate to the drive had been opened and a car was driving in.

"Hey, wake up!"

León felt something was wrong and went to wake Ivonne!

"Don't touch me, no, I'm so tired! I want to sleep!" Ivonne said drowsily, well worn out.

"There's a Mercedes in the drive! Who is it? How has he got a key to the gate?" León went on.

"What? A Mercedes?"

Hearing this, Ivonne's eyes flew open. All sleepiness gone, she sat bolt upright, wide awake.

"Oh no, oh no, my husband's back!"

"It's impossible, why's he back now? He never comes here in the mornings!"

Ivonne's pretty face went tense, and she hurriedly dressed.

"You've a husband? You're married?" León was baffled, snatching up clothes from the floor in a hurry. They were everywhere, evidence of last night's fierce battle.

His heart was full of curses. This Ivonne actually had a husband!

Seeing she was about Ángela's age, in her early twenties and an air hostess, León had assumed she was single!

Just a bit of fun between friends!

But he'd never imagined he was actually the other man. What he'd done was really careless!

"I'm not married yet! But soon, next week!"

"Oh, I haven't time to explain, my husband's coming up!"

The two dressed in a panic and straightened the sheets, just as there was a knock at the door downstairs.

"It's over! What'll we do? He'll find us!"

Ivonne had completely lost her head. León grumbled at her panic. Weren't you having a great time last night? So loud!

Now she was panicking!

"Don't worry, calm down!"

León reassured her. There was no running away at this point!

He could jump out of the window, but there'd be no explaining the SEAT in the drive!

He couldn't just look after himself and leave his friend exposed!

"Have you a toolbox in the house?"
