Chapter 10 - Chapter 9 — You Idiot, Once You're Dead, the Money's All Mine

The next night, in Caballo Díaz's bedroom on the first floor, a man in black hurried in, only to walk in on an awkward scene.

Caballo Díaz was lying on the bed with a bandage round his head and both arms tightly wrapped in plaster.

But the duvet over him was raised high, and only a pair of legs stuck out beside the bed.

The mummified Caballo Díaz's face was full of bliss.

"Ahem~"

The man in black coughed awkwardly and cursed inwardly.

The bloody lads downstairs had watched him walk in to get bawled out by the boss! Not a word of warning.

At the sound, the woman under the duvet hurriedly climbed out, gathered up her messy hair and walked out without the slightest embarrassment.

The man in black recognised her. Wasn't this the nurse who'd been looking after Caballo Díaz in the hospital!

"You'd better be bringing me good news!"

His fun interrupted, Caballo Díaz said with a dark face.

"Ahem, boss, something's not right!" the man in black said carefully. What good news was there!

"The two hitmen haven't come back yet, and today the Guardia Civil found two pools of blood in a lane near El Faro. I suspect..."

Hearing this, Caballo Díaz's face turned even darker: "You think those two hitmen were killed by that little scumbag?"

The man in black nodded slightly. What other explanation was there?

If the two pools of blood weren't the hitmen's, they'd have been back long ago!

"Useless, you can't even manage a small job like this, what use are you lot!"

"Go and find someone else. That kid has to die. While he's alive I can't rest!"

Caballo Díaz raged, his face twisted.

If both his arms hadn't been broken, he'd have wanted to hit someone!

After venting for a while, Caballo Díaz calmed down and asked, out of breath, "Have you found out the kid's background?"

The man in black shook his head slightly and said, "All I know is his name's León Vidal, and by the accent he's from across the Pyrenees. The Sala network made him a lieutenant a few days ago, and that's all there is!"

"Dig, find out everything back to his great-great-grandfather!"

"Get me someone else, he has to die. Money's no object!" Caballo Díaz said grimly.

"Yes, boss!" The man in black nodded quickly and left.

As soon as he reached the door, he heard Caballo Díaz's voice: "Send her back in!"

…

Two in the morning!

Glancing at Eva, who was already asleep, León slowly slid his arm free, dressed carefully and left the room.

Out on the street, there was hardly anyone about!

After walking a long way, he found the most ordinary SEAT and, without hesitation, smashed the window with his elbow.

Get in, pull the wires, spark the ignition, clutch down, into gear, and away!

The whole thing took less than ten seconds, and León had stolen a car.

…

At three in the morning, outside Caballo Díaz's lair, León stopped the car and quietly looked at the villa in the dark.

They called it a villa, but it was a self-built two-storey house and wouldn't have cost much.

The lights were out, the people inside were asleep. Time for him to work.

He took out the two Tokarevs, flicked off the safeties and loaded them!

He vaulted the high garden wall. The door was locked; he went to a window and pushed it gently. It was open.

Opening the window, León climbed nimbly in and came into the living room. There was no one there, only snores from the rooms on the ground floor.

He quietly opened a bedroom. A fella was sound asleep on the bed.

He put the pistol away. The dagger appeared in his hand again. He moved forward silently, clamped a hand over the man's mouth, and the dagger came down hard into his heart.

"Shhk~"

"Mmmmff~"

Blood sprayed, and the huge pain made the man's eyes fly open, but however violently he struggled, he couldn't make a sound.

He could only helplessly feel the strength draining from his body.

"Don't be nervous, it'll be over soon!"

León said in a low voice, pinning him down hard so he couldn't make a sound.

Soon the man's body stopped moving!

Next León killed another the same way, but when he got to the third room, the scene in front of him made his face twitch.

His eyes burned!

Three big men were lying in the same bed, two of them still wrapped in each other's arms. No need to say it; they were clearly of a like mind.

"Cristo, that's disgusting!"

León put away the dagger and got ready to use the pistol.

He couldn't guarantee that killing one wouldn't wake the other two.

And most importantly, if he had any physical contact with those three, he was afraid he'd have nightmares.

"Bang bang bang~!"

Three shots in a row, three headshots. The three lovebirds shuddered slightly in their sleep and died without a sound.

"Who's that? Someone's broken in!"

The gunfire woke the others, and people immediately rushed out of the other rooms, but as soon as the doors opened, they were met with a hail of bullets.

"Bang bang bang bang~!"

The gunfire was loud inside the villa, and the three men who rushed out of their rooms were all shot in the chest and stomach and fell to the floor.

He glanced at the dead men. He didn't know any of them. Caballo Díaz wasn't among them.

"Ahh~"

Then, at the sound of the gunshots, a woman screamed in a bedroom on the first floor.

León quickly ran upstairs to the bedroom door and, without the slightest hesitation, fired through the wooden door.

"Bang bang bang bang~"

There was a burst of gunfire, and the screaming inside stopped.

"Crash!"

León kicked the door open and rushed in.

Two people lay on the bedroom floor. In front was a beautiful woman.

But she had several bloody holes in her chest, her eyes were wide open; she was dead!

Lying behind her was Caballo Díaz. Though he'd been shot twice too, he was still alive.

It seemed he'd used the nurse as a human shield!

Caballo Díaz had a gun in his hand, but unfortunately both his arms had been broken, so he couldn't fire it at all.

He'd taken two in the stomach. Enormous pain swept through his body, and his forehead was covered in cold sweat.

He looked up at the door with difficulty, and his eyes suddenly widened.

"It's you!"

He recognised León's face instantly. This was the man who'd broken his arms.

He could never forget it!

"We meet again! Boss!"

León walked in slowly, staring at Caballo Díaz with cold eyes, a faint killing intent coming off him.

"Le~ León, the hitmen had nothing to do with me, it wasn't me!"

"Don't kill me!"

Caballo Díaz was dripping with cold sweat, begging in terror.

He was afraid!

He'd never imagined this bastard from across the Pyrenees would be so ruthless, charging straight into his own lair to kill!

"What hitmen? Did I say anything about hitmen? Why are you so nervous?" León said lightly.

Of course he was nervous; with a guilty conscience, how could he not be!

"León, I have money, lots of money, it's all in the safe."

"As long as you spare my life, I'll give you the lot!" Caballo Díaz begged bitterly from the floor.

But León smiled with contempt, had no patience for any more rubbish, and brought the gun to his head.

"You idiot, once you're dead, the money's all mine!"

"Boom!"

As the words fell, Caballo Díaz took a bullet to the head.
