Gus tried to be discreet, trying not to alert whosoever was following him. He kept going further into the woods until he stopped right by the river, his eyes carefully observing his tailer from the sides. He sighed, that was his cue. Within a split moment, Gus cornered his tailer, catching him by surprise. He punched him hard in the face and flung his body against a tree, ensuring that the tailer had no chance to fight back.
Gus held the body on the ground and took the mask off his face; he was right, it was not a member of the pack. He probably sneaked in during the party, disguised as one of the guests. Gus carried the stranger and took him to a small cottage, his favourite spot away from socialisation. He tied him up and sat down, waiting for the tailer to regain consciousness.
But there was another party in the woods, spying on Gus. He was completely hidden, and stayed unnoticed. He already took a few pictures of Gus without his knowledge. While Gus was focused on the one he had caught, he stood watching, waiting to see what Gus would do next.
Gus got impatient, he decided to wake him up with a punch. And just like that, the tailer opened his eyes. Immediately he saw Gus, he started pleading.
"Please don't kill me!" he cried. Gus shook his head, how could such a timid person be tailing him?
"Why have you be stalking me?" Gus asked. But his question fell off with the wind because the tailer was still busy begging him to spare his life and did not hear Gus's question.
"Who sent you?" Gus growled. His growl was frightening, sending more shivers down the spine of his tailer.
"Alpha Rufus!" he cried out. Gus raised his brows, seemingly confused as to why Rufus would send someone to tail him. "I was only asked to find the Lycan! I just sensed him around you and…" without letting him finish his sentence, Gus ran his claws against his throat, killing him without hesitation.
"Rufus won't be up to anything good," Gus muttered. Then he carried the body and threw it in the river, hoping it would wash off his traces.
After he was done, be walked himself casually back into the pack, his eyes sighting a slightly elevated ground. It was the grave he dug to bury Heca at night while Cain was busy throwing a party for his new Luna.
Gus tried to recall everything that happened after he left the party, while walking back to meet with the rest of his pack members. His walk was slow, but he did not care how long it would take for him to get out of the wood. He no longer felt at home in a place where he has always called home. From Cain attacking him, to Heca slitting her own throat and her body being thrown in the woods like she was nobody. If he had not come to bury her, her corpse would have been food to the scavenger birds.
"I will find out her true intentions and prove to the entire pack who the evil one is," he said after taking a pause. Then he continued walking until he was standing right in front of Cain's house. This was not the place he wanted to come to, not after what Cain did. But he was there, and Yenka was there too, wearing shorts and a cropped strapless top. That was not what she was wearing earlier. He wondered how she could be so free and unbothered after causing the death of a wolf like Heca. But then again, he also just killed someone.
"I had my reasons!" he muttered to himself, trying to combat his conscience. He walked into the courtyard, and walked past Yenka without saying a word to her. He was going to report to Alpha Cain; as Cain's right hand man and Beta, it was his duty to report early to the Alpha before going about handling what he can at the Pack on behalf of Cain.
He got to Cain's study and knocked on the door several times but got no response. "He is not in there," a light voice greeted his ears like a melody, except he knew who it was coming from. He turned to look at Yenka, his eyes ready to eat her up. If looks could kill, she would be dead by him.
"You can report to me," she said with a smile on her lips. He hated it, the pretentious smile she was always wearing. He could see through her act no matter how well she tried to play her game.
"I am not Cain, so you are free to drop the act," Gus said. Yenka laughed casually.
"Are you going to report to me or not?" Yenka asked. Gus did not say a word, instead, he left. Yenka's eyes followed him, her lips tightened. Something felt different about Gus; this she thought. But she could not put a pin on it just yet. It was as if he changed over night.
"Vivian," Yenka called. Vivian appeared out of nowhere, like she was Yenka's shadow, always there, but never seen until needed.
"Something feels off about him," Yenka said. It was just that word, and Vivian knew what to do. "I'll check him out," she said before taking her leave. Just then, Yenka realised someone was watching her. She smirked. The thought of a spy entering her territory was mocking. But she decided to play along.
Yenka walked into her room and took off her clothes. She walked into the bathroom starked naked, leaving the door open as if inviting the spy. She knew she was yet to make a bold enemy, but whosoever it was, would be someone who has a grievance against Cain.
She filled the bathtub with foam and water before settling in, the smirk never leaving her face. She picked the neatly folded towel on a stool beside the bathtub and soaked it in the water, waiting for the spy to make his next move. Just then, she heard a crashing sound. She slapped her forehead out of frustration that Vivian had spoilt her plan and taken all the fun from her. But since Vivian was already handling the spy, she would relax in the bathtub without concern.
Just then, she heard a loud thud, accompanied by a shattering glass. They must have broken her window. She stood up with the wet towel in her hand ready to use it as her weapon, only to be welcomed with a vase being thrown her way. She landed on the floor, her head resting on someone's protective hand, it was Gus.
Her eyes widened at the realisation of what had just happened. Gus body was pressed against hers as they laid on the floor. She was naked, and he was saving her. The spy already escaped, but Gus was still in the room with her, his body pressed against hers.
She opened her mouth in an attempt to speak but could not find her words. But it wasn't just her, his eyes widened in disbelief. What was he doing? He wanted to stand up and apologise, but somehow, his body refused to cooperate.
It took Yenka to muster enough courage to push him off her body, "what do you think you are doing?" she half yelled as she stood up on her feet, using the wet towel to wrap her body despite its coldness.
"Someone just jumped out of your window, are you okay?" Cain's voice came as a surprise, leaving Yenka in shock.
