Chapter 9 - You're Not Her

Gus woke up the following morning looking like a mess with a hangover. "Did I drink too much and exceeded my limit?" he asked himself. He walked up to the mirror, his lips was bruised. He could smell that familiar scent on his body, but it seemed to be fading.

"What did I do?" He questioned. His wolf seemed to be confused as well, racking through memories of what happened last night and finding nothing tangible.

Gus took a deep breath, it would be needless struggling to remember anything if there was nothing to remember. However, Yenka's scent was all over him, which means he had contact with her. "We could get into trouble for this!" Gus said before dashing into the bathroom. But he remembered he was nowhere close to his chamber when he was drinking. He was at the cabin in the woods before his wolf started acting up.

"How did I even get here?!" he asked no one in particular, but he seemed confused. He stayed in the bath longer than he would have wanted to, trying to wash off Yenka's scent. He feared Cain's suspicion resurfacing after the previous day's.

He stood in front of the mirror, his hand on his bruised lip, wondering if he had slipped and fell on his face. He got out of his chamber all dressed up and ready for the day. The first person he met with was Cain. He felt relieved with Yenka not in sight.

"Its only been a day, but rumours of the Blood Moon pack and Red Moon pack going to war seem to be spreading around," Cain said. He looked dejected.

"Rumours shouldn't faze you," Gus said. Cain just nods his head, but his face showed that he was not convinced, nor comforted. "Alpha Rufus was my closest ally," he said, regret laced in his voice.

"We were going to find the Lycan that appeared on the night of Yenka's coronation," Cain said. Gus pressed his fingers against his palm, digging his nails into it.

"I suspect it's one of those Alphas, or a random wolf… whoever he is, he's surely in the guest list," Cain said. Gus gritted his teeth this time.

"Does it bother you.... the possibility of a Lycan existing?" Cain nods his head to answer Gus's question.

"You could join Yenka, she promised to help me find who this Lycan is," Cain said, his voice suddenly had a little bit of excitement in it.

"But she doesn't even have a wolf!" Gus pointed out. But Cain raised his hand in objection. "The Luna is smart. She even caught on Alpha Rufus being behind the assassin that showed up in her chamber before you got to trace it to him," Cain said. He sounded like a proud father.

"She still can't be trusted! What if she's making this all up?"

Cain slammed Gus against the wall, "A woman like Yenka is every true Alpha's dream," Cain said whilst Gus was struggling to stand up. For some reason, he felt weak.

"She saved your life the other day, you should be grateful to her. But I would not have let you die without honour, I promised Jacob I would take care of you," Cain said. Then he asked Gus to leave his presence.

Gus walked out of Cain's study, his anger reaching its peak. Cain had gone mad. Yenka only came to the pack three years ago, with no clue to finding out her identity. Heca was the one who kept her in the pack despite all the criticism. Heca gave Yenka a place to stay at the Alpha's mansion, Yenka dared cause Heca's death.

He paused on seeing Yenka walking towards his direction. But he was going the opposite way, so they were bound to cross each other. He could not understand how he was so connected to a vile woman like Yenka. Gus believed it was not possible for the Moon goddess to give him a woman like Yenka for a mate, and that too, the Alpha's woman.

The moment Yenka passed Gus, he felt something was off. She was not wearing that smile she usually fix on her face, like she was born to look like that. He noticed she smelt different, and nothing like that lavender and honey fragrance that draws his wolf. He didn't know if he should be worried or relieved. Perhaps, the goddess did decide to have mercy on him; Yenka is no longer his mate, and fate would no longer force him to want a woman he hates.

"Someday, I'll snatch you out of that dark and expose your villainy before the pack," Gus said, his words directed at Yenka who didn't spare him a reply.

She walked straight into Cain's study without even knocking. Her face, emotionless. "You sent for me," she said, not like the usual Yenka. He flashed her a smile.

"I have a plan," he said grinning from ear to ear.

"Gus will help you take a tour to other packs. But it would be solely for finding out the Lycan's identity. Also, you'll be attending a meeting with me," Cain announced the last part.

"I don't need Gus to go with me," she firmly said. Cain frowned.

"This will be you pretending to get used to other packs, an oath of brotherhood; I need someone I can trust to be there to protect you in my absence,"

"I can protect myself," she sounded stern. Cain was taken aback. Even though Yenka was always assertive, she was never hostile.

"Is it because of Alpha Rufus? Do you really want us to extend this fight with him?" he asked her, but she didn't answer. Instead, she walked out on him. But that was Vivian, she only answer to Yenka and Freya. She would do anything to cover up for Yenka, but this was as far as it could go.

Cain wanted to stop her but decided against it. Perhaps, she needed space; so he thought.

Vivian sensed someone following her into the woods. "There's no need to hide," she said, her eyes scanning everywhere.

"You are not her,"

"You are not Yenka,"

It was Gus, he stood right in front of Vivian who was still disguised as Yenka. A cruel smile settled on her lips. Without moving a muscle, she was standing right next to Gus, a knife to his throat.

"You're a witch?" the words left Gus's mouth the moment he felt the knife against his throat.

"And you have been rendered powerless," Vivian said.
