"Mangekyou Sharingan." Kakashi used up every last ounce of strength to obtain precious information about Pain for Konoha. But because of that, the little chakra he had left was already gone. Though unwilling, Kakashi closed his eyes and finally passed on.
He didn't know how long it had been before he slowly opened his eyes again. Above him was a sky full of stars. Muttering, he said, "Hm? Is this heaven?" Just as Kakashi was lost in confusion, a magnetic voice rang in his ear: "Ah, Kakashi, you're awake." Kakashi stiffened, looking up to see golden hair and a sunny smile. That man was none other than his teacher. Kakashi exclaimed in shock, "Minato-sensei, how could it be you?"
Namikaze Minato showed no doubt at Kakashi's question. "I'm sorry, Kakashi, I didn't make it in time to save Obito." Kakashi was stunned. "What? Obito, but he's already…" He looked down at himself, wide-eyed. "My body… it's turned back to when I was a kid. But didn't I already die? Could it be…?"
"What's wrong, Kakashi? Do you still blame me?" Minato asked, confused by Kakashi's silence. Kakashi shook himself from his daze, suddenly remembering something. "Oh, no. Sensei, where's Rin?" Minato pointed into the distance. Kakashi followed his gaze, seeing Rin's back. He thought, "Back then I never cherished her, nor kept my promise to Obito. But this time…"
Returning to the village, Kakashi escorted Rin home and then returned to his own. Looking in the mirror at the Sharingan in his left eye, he froze—his Sharingan was still at three tomoe. "So my strength is the same as before I came back? Maybe this is a chance from heaven. Since I've returned to the past, I'll change this era. I won't be lost again. The world will change because of me." Kakashi made a silent vow, then smiled faintly behind his mask. But just knowing the future wasn't enough. What he needed now was power. "But how do I gain more strength? First, I'll need more chakra."
Unconsciously, he walked into his father's room. Strangely, the room was empty except for a single table, and on it lay a book. Picking it up, Kakashi was shocked: "Hatake Clan Bloodline Inheritance." Curious, he opened it—only to find nothing written inside. Disappointed, he suddenly found himself elsewhere—the room was gone, replaced by a grassy field.
Kakashi stood alert as a figure appeared before him. Staring coldly, he demanded, "Who are you?" The shadowy figure said calmly, "Kakashi, huh? Didn't expect you to make it here. But since you have, I won't hide it. The Hatake Clan's special bloodline inheritance depends on your strength." Kakashi said nothing. The shadow sneered. "Perhaps you don't have what it takes."
Frowning, Kakashi asked, "So if I kill you, I'll inherit the clan's bloodline?"
The shadow chuckled. "Heh, worthy of White Fang's son. Your father was the first to inherit the Hatake bloodline. If you've got what it takes—then show me."
Before he finished, Kakashi had already dashed forward, slamming a fist into him. The shadow only laughed. "Hahaha, you think such an attack can defeat me?" As the shadow fell, Kakashi rushed beneath him. Using Konoha taijutsu, Kakashi unleashed a flurry of strikes. With the final kick planted into the shadow's stomach, Kakashi noticed the sinister smile on his opponent's face. Coldly, he said, "You think it's over? Chidori." Lightning pierced through the shadow's heart. Yet the shadow smiled as if he'd defeated Kakashi instead.
"What? That wasn't a clone…"
"Congratulations, Kakashi. You are the second ninja to inherit our clan's bloodline. You now possess what is yours." Kakashi's body suddenly burned as if about to explode. "This is… my chakra, it's increasing without end!"
The shadow said, "Your ability doesn't stop there. Your chakra can be transformed into any of the five elements. You should also study the Hatake clan's kenjutsu—you'll find surprises there."
"Senpai…" Before Kakashi could finish, the shadow vanished. "Who was he? With no face, no features…" The vision faded, and everything returned to normal. The book in Kakashi's hands had changed—now it read "Hatake Blood Sword." "So this is the sword technique he spoke of?" Kakashi thought.
"But I still need a blade." He searched his father's room, where his father had once kept many short swords. Dust covered the cabinets. Opening them, Kakashi discovered a small hidden button. Pressing it, the floor rumbled open, revealing a secret passage. Cautiously drawing a kunai, he walked down to find a sword engraved with the words: "This is the Blood Sword. If the wielder is not fated, it will devour them." Beside it lay a letter from Sakumo Hatake.
Opening the letter, Kakashi read: the sword had been passed down through the generations, though its origin was uncertain. Combined with the Hatake kenjutsu, it possessed special effects. His father admitted he could not wield it, but hoped Kakashi might be able to—warning him to drop it immediately if he sensed anything wrong.
Kakashi sighed. "So this Blood Sword isn't simple. But since I'm here, I might as well try. Maybe it's fated to be mine." Nervously, he reached for it. The blade trembled and suddenly leapt into his hand. Sweat trickled down his brow. "Creepy…"
Drawing it, he froze. "This is our clan's treasure? It's ruined." The broken, rusted iron sword looked pathetic. Then he noticed small words inscribed: "To unseal this blade, drip blood upon the tip." He pricked his finger, letting blood fall. A blinding red light flashed, and when it faded, a crimson sword gleamed in his hands.
Kakashi swung it casually, feeling space itself tear. "Amazing… this sharpness is unmatched." Excited, he trained through the night, the sound of his swings echoing across Konoha. Lamps lit up, and angry voices shouted, "Who the hell's making all that racket?" Kakashi scratched his head in embarrassment and went back inside to sleep.
The next morning, clad in armor and mask as always, Kakashi knocked on Rin's door. "Rin, this time I'll protect you." He himself was surprised at his words, but they came from the heart. Rin blushed. "Kakashi, is this for Obito's sake? Don't you understand how I feel?"
"No, not for Obito. Just… as long as I live, I won't let you be hurt." Kakashi had thought all night. "I was never good to Rin. Now that fate has given me another chance, and the clan's inheritance, and the Blood Sword—I won't waste it. I won't let Rin leave me again."
Rin's eyes brightened. "Really, Kakashi?" "Yes." Not long after, the Third Hokage approached. "Kakashi, come with me."
"Yes, Hokage-sama."
"Still thinking about Obito?" the Third asked, puffing smoke.
"Why do you say that, Hokage-sama?"
The Hokage looked at him knowingly. "Ever since your father's death, you've changed. Obito's loss must weigh heavily. But I don't want grief to cost Konoha one of its elite. The future depends on you young ones."
Kakashi bowed slightly. "Don't worry, Hokage-sama. I won't stray from the path."
"Oh? Then I'm relieved." Surprised yet satisfied, the Hokage nodded, gazing at the sky. "Lately I've had a sense of foreboding. You young ones must be ready."
Kakashi thought, "That must be about the Nine-Tails. In a few years, it'll attack. But this time, Rin, I won't let you go. And Minato-sensei, I'll change it all." He drew the Blood Sword and trained again.
Later, strolling the village, he spotted Jiraiya. "Jiraiya-sama!"
"Oh? Silver hair… White Fang's son, Kakashi?" "Yes." "Minato's student?" "Yes, sir."
"Then take this." He handed over a book with a grin. Of course, it was "Icha Icha Paradise." Kakashi thought, "So this is how I was corrupted…"
That night, deep in the woods, Kakashi prepared for the Nine-Tails. Opening his Sharingan: "Mangekyou Sharingan… I can still use it. Doujutsu—Space Crush!" Trees crumbled to ash. Angry shouts echoed. Kakashi ignored them. "Sorry, villagers, but I need to adapt to this young body."
"Chidori!" Lightning screamed in his hand. A thunderclap split the sky, a bolt crashing toward him. "Raikiri!" Kakashi leapt up, cleaving the lightning in two. Gasps rose from onlookers.
Soon after, his Chidori became known as Raikiri…
