"A Lycan?" My finger traced the outline of the creature in the ancient tome. "I thought they were extinct."
"Most are. Only one left is the king." Dad pulled the book away, flipping back to his chosen page. "Lycans possess two forms: a wolf form, significantly larger than regular werewolves, and a half-human half-wolf form – like those movie monsters. Regular weres can partially shift, but nothing approaching the true wolfman appearance." He slid the book back toward me. "Now concentrate on this spell and try to create a wisp without losing control of your scent signature."
"A wisp?" I examined the page, quickly absorbing the instructions. The spell detailed how to conjure a ball of light – perfect for darkness but without heat, allowing extended handling without risk of burns.
