Chapter 21 - The Fallen Wings

Episode:21

Army Chief walked out of the meeting room with a grave expression and headed straight toward the control room. After walking for nearly two minutes, he finally stepped inside.

The moment the uniformed young officers noticed his presence, they immediately saluted him respectfully.

In return, the Army Chief gave them a slight salute while continuing to walk forward.

The room he entered resembled a massive hall filled with countless computers lined up on every side.

Young officers sat before the screens wearing headphones, constantly communicating with the officers engaged in Mission Survival. Again and again, they guided them through nearby routes and updated them about the surrounding situation.

The Army Chief moved forward and stopped beside several young officers standing before an enormous screen.

Everyone stared seriously at the map displayed on the screen. Small red dots could be seen moving slowly across different locations on the map.

Without a doubt, it was the map of Mission Survival, and those tiny red dots represented the helicopters currently busy rescuing civilians.

Standing beside the officers, the

Army Chief asked sternly,

"What are the latest updates on the mission?"

One of the young officers immediately turned around and stepped forward with a file in his hand. While explaining the report, his gaze shifted between the file and the Army Chief, though most of the time, his eyes remained fixed respectfully on the Army Chief. It almost seemed as if he had already memorized every detail beforehand.

With a serious tone, the young officer reported,

"Sir, ten helicopters and fifty army officers have already been deployed for the mission. So far, three helicopters have been destroyed, and all the officers inside them have been martyred."

Hearing this, the Army Chief became deeply saddened. However, suppressing his emotions as part of his duty, he immediately ordered in a worried tone,

"Inform all officers to prioritize their own safety first. Until it is fully confirmed that a person is not infected, no one is to be allowed inside the helicopters."

As soon as the order was given, the young officer energetically replied,

"Yes, Sir!"

He saluted the Army Chief for permission.

The Army Chief signaled his approval, and the officer quickly moved toward the computers. Putting on his headphones, he connected with the teams and relayed the Army Chief's orders.

Not only did the officers inside the control room hear the command, but the soldiers actively participating in Mission Survival outside heard it as well.

Following the order, they all responded in unison,

"Yes, Sir!"

Meanwhile, the Army Chief remained standing silently before the giant screen, his eyes fixed on the moving map. The pain of losing his people was clearly visible on his face.

Since most of the room's illumination came from the massive screen itself, the reflection of the glowing map could be seen clearly within the Army Chief's eyes…
