Xie Ning never expected that on the very first day of her return to the apocalypse, her best friend would try to shove her out to be fed to zombies.
Her head was throbbing with fever. The moment she opened her eyes, a powerful force shoved her toward the door.
Her best friend Ma Yu's reluctant voice sounded beside her ear, "Xie Ning, don't blame me. Right now, it's either you or me. We were friends, and I don't want to do this, but I really don't want to die."
Ma Yu grabbed Xie Ning's arm and turned her face away, unable to meet Xie Ning's icy gaze.
Beside them, another classmate, He Zhi, reached out to stop her.
"She's awake! Xie Ning is awake! Ma Yu, maybe we should wait and see?"
"Awake? So what? Haven't you checked her temperature? She has a persistent high fever and is turning. Are you seriously waiting for her to bite someone before we kill her? Put away that Holy Mother heart of yours. Kindness is useless at a time like this."
"But a fever doesn't necessarily mean she's turning. It could very well be a superpower awakening!" He Zhi was still hesitant. They were classmates, after all. Besides, the government had issued an emergency notice that awakening a superpower could also be accompanied by a high fever.
"I'd rather kill her by mistake than risk my own life! He Zhi, stop wasting time. We'll be out of time in a moment!"
But Ma Yu was unwavering. She pushed He Zhi's hand away.
The moment the door was opened—
Ma Yu was about to kick Xie Ning out the door but was instead grabbed by a hand with a viselike grip.

'To save her own skin, she didn't care whether I was awakening a superpower or not. All she wanted was to kick me out to feed the zombies and buy herself some time.'
"Want to use my life to save your own pathetic one? We'll see if you're even qualified." Xie Ning suddenly grabbed Ma Yu's hair.
With a surge of strength, she slammed the back of Ma Yu's head against the door.

The sound was so heavy it made the hearts of the other girls in the room leap.
Before anyone could understand how Xie Ning had done it, Ma Yu's hair suddenly burst into flames.
He Zhi and the others were startled. Before they could even process what was happening, they saw Xie Ning send Ma Yu flying with a heavy kick.
Ma Yu and the door crashed heavily to the ground. In a stroke of awful luck, she pinned several rotting corpses underneath the door panel.
"AHH!" Ma Yu let out a wretched scream. The fire on her head spread to the rotting corpses, and the flames rapidly grew.
The corpses felt no pain, only waving their arms and roaring within the blaze.
Ma Yu, however, was howling in agony, rolling back and forth on the ground.
As she rolled, she ended up by a low hallway window. Staring at the pouring rain outside, she suddenly leaped.
"Ma Yu!" He Zhi chased her out the door, so frightened she nearly fainted.
'That's the third floor!'
'Did Ma Yu really just jump like that?'
