"Another dead end." Lucian said in annoyance. This was the 10th dead end Morwen's ability had led them to in one day.
Morwen nervously scratch the back of his head, feeling useless and let out a fake chuckle. "It strange. I don't know why my ability is acting out like this."
Above Lucian's head was a light-shaped arrow created by Morwen's ability that was meant to search for the magical beast Lucian had described to him. Lucian hid the true identity of the beast he was searching for and deceived Morwen that the beast his system had given him the quest to look for was a beast full of magic mana that could increase all of their abilities. Lucian and Luna are the only ones who are aware that Morwen was trying to locate the resting place of the dungeon boss, the sub-villain in the game that other players weren't aware of.
'could it be that the reason he's not getting the job done right is because he doesn't know the true identity of the beast he is searching for?' Lucian frown at the thought of revealing the truth to Morwen.
'what is wrong with my system.' Morwen thought and tried redirecting the arrow around again like he did the other times but it was refusing to move. He felt impatient and glanced at both Lucian and Luna.
Luna's lips were pressed down into a tight thin line, and her face had no expression, although it was hard for Morwen to recognize any expression in Luna's face because of her big black bangs. He suspects that she could turn against him at any moment, and since he couldn't grant Lucian's request, she could easily point out how weak and useless he was to the team and then convince Lucian to kill him.
Morwen gulped down in fear, shaken by Luna's presence, and licked his lips that suddenly felt dry. "Let's turn around and try another route." He suggested and turned around so that the magic arrow he had created could retreat and return back to him; that way he could try again.
Morwen increased his pace, moving faster than the others. He didn't want Lucian to notice that his arrow wouldn't move and change direction until he had created enough distance. After what had happened with Captain Zarek when he was searching for Lucian, Morwen had felt his ability was cursed because it only brought his former captain and teammates trouble by leading them straight to different beast dens, and now that he actually wants to find a beast, his ability isn't working right.
"That damned arrow is still refusing to change direction." Morwen mumbled to himself. If only he could fix things by turning his ability off until he has accomplished the distance he wanted to create; if he did that now, the arrow would still stubbornly appear at the same dead end. Lucian was a dumb leader, but Luna was smart enough to know when his ability had been put off; if she tells Lucian about it, then Lucian is going to know that he couldn't fulfill the task given to him.
Light steps of boots were all Morwen heard and caught a glance of before hitting his head against a strong armor chest. His system screen that he had been so focused on disappeared as he held the sore spot in his temple and looked up at the tall figure before him. "The hero." He said out loud in disbelief. After Lucian's video, everyone knew who Thorin was.
Thorin was about to let out a friendly smile, prideful of the title the 12 gods had given to him, but stopped when he noticed Lucian and Luna walking slowly behind the man who had stumbled against him. He let out an angry sneer and immediately pulled out his sword.
Morwen shrieks backwards, far away from Thorin.
The sound of Thorin's blade caught Luna's and Lucian's attention.
Lucian smirks at Thorin. If Thorin and his teammates had met him in his previous state when he only had Achiloq and Nova powers, he wouldn't have had much chance of going against them. After his fight with Captain Zarek, Lucian had come to realize how weak Nova powers were in his hands; although he has a system, at the same time he doesn't. His only way to power up is by getting blood on his hands. Thinking of this made Lucian angry every time. Nova's ability wasn't weak, but because he couldn't level up and make it stronger, it couldn't help him when he wanted to fight against someone whose level was higher. Achiloq's ability helps Lucian, but at the same time it destroys his body; if Luna was too busy fighting others and had no time to heal him, he was at a great disadvantage.
"Don't even think of it." Luna whispers in Lucian's ear while keeping her eyes on a furious Thorin. "If you use that guy's ability, that little snake in our team is going to know and question how you are able to use his former captain's ability, and before you realize it, every single player in this game is going to know that you lied."
Lucian blinked in surprise at how much Luna was able to think ahead; he was so excited about summoning the huge-ass sword he had stolen along with Zarek's strength that he didn't consider other details. "I understand." He nodded.
"Today, you are going to die in my hands, bastard." Thorin's heart still felt the heavy pain of Nova's death. But if he was being more honest with himself, wanting to kill Lucian because of Nova was just an excuse. Ever since he met Lucian back in their world and saw his lascivious lifestyle, something Thorin could never have, his desire for Lucian's death had been growing like an evil seed in his heart.
"You fools!" Morwen shouted when he saw that Lucian and Luna were about to fight. "We are outnumbered. There is no way we can win." He ran away; his panicked mind forgot that the path he was running to was a dead end.
