Chapter 20 - Lightwing

Different voices spoke out from Thorin's team as they considered Lucian's words. Some of Thorin's teammates wanted to join Lucian's team because they were abandoned by Captain; others still wanted to fight. Two twin guys were trying to convince the rest of the team to go after Thorin and help him fight against Gale.

At this very moment, Morwen chose to open his eyes and rise from the dead, even though he was never dead. After being healed by Luna, Morwen had long regained his consciousness, but he pretended as though he was still unconscious so that Lucian and Luna would continue to protect him and he wouldn't get involved in the fight. "You can't let them join our team, Lucian." Morwen stated strongly. He wasn't against Thorin's teammate because he cared about the team but rather because he didn't want more people to face Luna after he had killed Lucian and become the new villain. Luna was enough trouble; he didn't need more. "They just tried to kill us, so they can't be trusted."

"He's right." Lucian agreed. "I didn't say that we should stop fighting because I was looking for who to recruit into my team. If you guys were truly interested in joining me, you would have proven your loyalty by killing Thorin." He said darkly, knowing fully well that it didn't matter what they did; he was never going to work with Thorin's team because of how they had mocked him in the past.

"This damned loser is full of shit." One of Thorin's men said and attacked Lucian. Lucian used his lightning magic to mobilize his attacker's movement before cutting him down with his sword.

"Who are you to say that this fight is over?" Another one of Thorin's men asked and rushed over to attack Lucian. A few others joined in.

"Stop fighting; we need to stop that guy from killing our captain." Reed said, his twin brother, Raid, by his side. Other than his brother, no one else listened to him.

Lucian easily killed those who attacked him, while Luna only left the ones who attacked her with fatal wounds. Her attackers didn't live because Lucian cut them down with his sword while Luna turned her eyes away, unwilling to watch so many people die. Her whole space around Lucian was starting to smell like death, and it bothered her.

"Does anyone else still want to fight?" Lucian asks, glaring at the rest of Thorin's team; they ran away, disregarding the twin that tried reminding them about their captain.

Lucian cursed out loud, "I made a mistake." He hisses in irritation as he takes a long look at the dead body on the ground. "I should have at least kept one of them alive."

Luna raised a brow that couldn't be seen. "Why?"

'They were perfectly weak.' Lucian cringed at his own thought; a part of him felt like his thoughts were the same as Nova's when she had wanted to earn their trust and use them for sacrifices so that she could escape the dungeon without fighting. It made Lucian slightly disgusted with himself.

One of Lucian's perks of not being acknowledged and recognized by his broken system was that his system gave him no task and made no requirement for him to fulfill the task of those systems he stole. Still, Lucian wanted to check if he would be rewarded by his broken system if he tried fulfilling old tasks given to the original owners before he stole the system.

"Let's keep moving." Lucian dragged Morwen towards the path that was smashed open by Gale. He stopped his movement when he felt Luna glare, even though he couldn't see it, but he had gotten used to her and her habits. "One isn't enough." He said in reply to her question from earlier.

'What the hell is that supposed to mean?' Luna thought as she followed Lucian; she had a feeling that he was about to do something that would either put them in danger or turn her gut in disgust.

—------------------------------------------------------

"We are too late." Raid said, running in line with his twin brother, Reed. A short distance away from them, Thorin had been surrounded, and Gale was 2 minutes away from ending his life with his sword.

"Combine magic, Lightwing, now!" Reed shouted. A magic circle formed in his hand as he activated his lightning magic.

Without questioning his elder brother's decision, Raid activated his wind magic and linked his hand with his brother.

Lightwing was a spell that only Reed and Raid could do, a skill they both shared together with their system. Raid had never questioned why they both had a skill; they could never be complete without each other and thought that it was possible for them because they were twins.

Within seconds, faster than the blink of an eye, Reed and Raid move together with their lightwing skill and push past the bodies of Gale men that surrounded him. Reed places his body in front of Gale's sword, his twin brother close to his side as he takes an attack that was meant to bring Thorin to his end.

"No! Reed." Raid shouted, but his brother glared at him. They had the element of surprise on their side; this was the perfect time to hurt Gale.

Raid took out his sword and attacked Gale. But his attack was countered, and his sword could only lightly pierce the skin of Gale's arm.

The sword in Raid's hands shook. Usually this was the time when his brother came to his rescue, but his brother was badly wounded and needed treatment.

Thorin had opened his closed eyes in surprise to see the two men that had appeared before him.

"Why aren't you doing anything?" Reed asked him with a blood-filled mouth; he couldn't move his body, and his brother was in danger. "Be the hero you are supposed to be." His sight was blurry, slowly losing light. The only reason he had sacrificed himself to save Thorin was because he believed that Thorin was chosen as the hero of the game by the system for a reason. If Thorin dies, then that was death for everyone in the team, and they would never return home. Reed wants his little brother to return home, back to their parents, even if his brother was the only one between them that made it. "Please save my brother." Reed's last words came out in a weak whisper before his life disappeared.

Thorin stood to his feet despite his one arm; he punched one of Gale's men behind him, kneed his opponent in the gut with enough strength that shattered not just rib bones but also destroy the internal organs, and then he took the sword from his opponent.
