Chapter 4 - chapter 4: peace in the Galaxy

[Two years into the future]

The coalition of planets heard word that all of the Viltrumites that had been stationed on various planets had suddenly gone off the planet and returned to Viltrum.

At first the coalition felt this was terrible news, multiple planets that had been conquered by the Viltrumites had sent transmission to the coalition, reporting that their Viltrumite overlords had disappeared, no announcement, no warning they just disappeared.

Great Thaedus, current head of the council, was quick to call in a state of emergency and held a meeting to discuss the issue.

None of them knew why the Viltrumites had suddenly left their conquered planets; however, Thaedus guessed that they were preparing for war.

He guessed that the only reason why the Viltrumites would return to their mother ship and leave their colonies was because the Empire was preparing to attack the coalition and eradicate it from the galaxy.

That was the only explanation that made sense, and every member of the council believed it to be true.

After all, it was the coalition that devastated the Viltrumite Empire's population , so it followed that the Empire would want to return the favor and eradicate the threat before it could make such attempts again.

Of course the Coalition was unaware of how many Viltrumites were left in the universe however they had guessed that their army was significantly less than it was before, this was confirmed by the fact that the Viltrumites no longer operated in teams of three man cells but only a single warrior was assigned a planet to conquer.

They began to prepare for war, arming all member planets of the coalition and readying themselves for a full assault. Many in the coalition were not hopeful. A single Viltrumite was enough to devastate a whole planet by themselves, and an entire army would be near impossible to defeat.

However, the coalition is prepared regardless. None were willing to just surrender to the might of Viltrum and let their homes be conquered.

However, despite the preparations for war, despite the expenses of buying weapons and setting up defenses. The Viltrumites never attacked. The expected assault from the Empire never came, and nobody knew why.

The planet Telescria completed two full cycles around its star without the coalition, even spotting a single Viltrumite or even hearing anything from the Empire.

All they knew was that the planets previously under Viltrumite control had begun to celebrate their sudden and unexpected freedom from the Empire.

However, Thaedus was not convinced, had the Empire truly stopped its conquering ways? That was a question he did not ever expect to ask himself.

As a general rule, The coalition tends to stay away from Viltrumite controlled parts of space, mostly because any agent of the coalition found would no doubt be eliminated, not only that but the coalition feared an agent being found and information being leaked to the Empire, no one in the coalition of planets was willing to give the empire any possible advantage.

However, this time, Thaedus thought to take that risk.

"Allen, I know this mission presents great danger to you, and I would not be surprised if you refused"

Within the coalition meeting hall, where the various representatives and monarchs of planets that are part of the coalition meet to discuss important matters, Thaedus addressed the one-eyed Unopan.

"I understand Great Thaedus, but I am willing to take this mission, I understand it's of great importance"

Allen, the Unopan, responded. He was a decently tall male with bright orange skin, muscular to a degree, and completely bald. Allen was a genetically engineered warrior specifically made to combat Viltrumites and match their strength and speed; however, unfortunately, when it came time to put him to the test, he was not up to task.

However, although he was not capable of defeating a Viltrumite, he was still capable of holding his own against one. As such, he was assigned the job of being an evaluation officer.

He traveled from planet to planet, evaluating their strength and technology and testing if they were able to defend against Viltrumites.

"Once again, Allen, you demonstrate the Unopan's undying will and determination. However, if possible, by all means, try to return to us. Your survival is more important"

"I understand Great Thaedus."

Was all the Unopan said before he was let go and he exited the meeting room, however inwardly he couldn't help but feel his heart beat in his chest.

The mission was fairly simple on the surface. Simply investigate why the Viltrumites are no longer active. This meant he had to fly deep into Viltrumite territory and make his way to the Viltrumite home world, Viltrum.

"Alright Allen you got this just in and out, no biggie"

He said to himself as prepared to fly off, for a brief moment he considered speaking to his girlfriend Telia however he figured she was busy with some work right now and him venturing into Viltrumites territory would stress her out.

"Alright then, let's go!"

....

Flying into Viltrumite space was a nerve wrecking experience that had forced the normally strong Unopan into a shell of himself, he was alert, too alert, every movement made him flinch, an asteroid coming his way made him want to turn tail and fly away.

However, despite all that, he managed to pull through and fly closer and closer to the Viltrumite home world. However, every time he got close, he couldn't help but notice how quiet it was.

It was unnerving, almost as if the Viltrumites were waiting to ambush, which was completely unlikely since Viltrumites preferred to confront their enemies directly.

However, eventually, Allen made it close enough to Viltrumite Home World to see what the Viltrumites were up to, and what he saw was shocking, to say the least.

"Holy shit!"

He exclaimed inwardly as he witnessed the deserted planet. There were no ships, no cruisers, no carriers, no fighters, or completely empty space. There was nothing that told that this was the Viltrumite space and core part of their Empire

After the initial shock passed, Allen could not help but be confused. Questions began mounting in his head.

What happened? Where did they go? And why? What did their disappearance mean for the rest of the galaxy?

Allen was tempted to fly down and enter Viltrum's atmosphere. However, he reconsidered that this could be a ploy to lure people like him into the planet's surface.

It might even be a ploy to get the coalition to let down their guard.

He floated near Viltrum's moon, thinking about his next steps.

'I need to take the risk'

It's worth noting that the coalition was not aware of how effective the scourge virus truly was, Viltrum had managed to suppress any information regarding how devastating the virus had been, To them the virus was a failed attempt to wipe out the Viltrumites

Allen took a deep breath and flew straight towards Viltrum's atmosphere. Choosing to take the risk, he hoped that the Viltrumites had truly disappeared.

Once he entered the atmosphere, he was met with the same silence, nothing but rustling winds, ruins of a civilization, and dead bodies.

Something that confused Allen at first, after all to him and everyone in the coalition the Empire was going strong, sure they had stopped being aggressive in their conquest however no thought that was due to something like what Allen.

"Holy shit, again"

He said once more flying around, looking at the ruins of the Empire, some of the bodies he found were just dead, no injuries or any sign of being struck or beaten, just dead with no visible signs of trauma on them.

After surveying the place for a few minutes, he immediately fled back to a coalition of planets. He did not know what to make of the situation he saw, but if it meant the Viltrumites were gone, then that was good news.

...…

A/N: This chapter takes place in the future after the Viltrumites have already settled on Earth. I wrote it because the Coalition of Planets will not be relevant for a while.
