The next morning, June had gone to call Elaine, as it was sanitation, they weren't in their uniforms.
"I hate today" June complained
"Who doesn't?" Gwen added.
"Is it that bad?" Elaine asked not liking the idea of having to doing field work.
"It's that bad!, June half yelled, and it's more worse if you have to clean the outside environment, and today, the sun isn't smiling"
"I don't understand?" Elaine asked
"Like, we are divided into groups by the staffs supervising, then some groups would clean buildings, old classrooms, then there's the outside environment, most groups are usually assigned there, to trim the bushes and plants, weed, rake them, gather them up, plant new flowers, things like that" Gwen explained.
They walked into a large building which was dull in color and it was just a clear space, there were students already gathered, and none of them had a smiley face, mummers and sighs could be heard regularly, there were also some adults who probably were the ones in charge of making sure every portion on work is carried out, in no time, they were shared into groups and their portion of work had been handed out luckily for Gwen and June, they were assigned to clean a building that wasn't in use, and unfortunately for Elaine, she was assigned to field work, as expected, there wasn't even a trace of Allan's scent around,.
Elaine was carrying some dried leaves when her back mistakingly collided with someone.
"Oh, sorry, she said turning to see who it was, Kyle", she said with a smile on her face.
"Didn't know you got into field work too" he said facing her.
"It wasn't something I was expecting " compared to her who was already sweating bullets, he was still looking fresh and clean, there wasn't even a smudge of dirt on him.
"Work well" he said about to turn around, when she stopped him.
"Wait!"
"What for?" He asked slipping his hands into his pockets
"I'm..., I need your help with something". He paused as if thinking what she could probably need him for.
" If it's about ur portion of the work, it's a no, I still got mine to d-
"No it isn't about work"
"Then what?"
"It's about... I was given some questions to solve by mister Steven as a form of punishment, and I'm to submit it tomorrow, I'm having a hard time with it, and you look smart so-
"No" he replied sharply
"No?" She repated
"Hmm"
"But why?" She asked
" It's your punishment, do it yourself"
"But it's part your fault, if you had let me sleep peacefully, I wouldn't ha-
She was cut short when he turned back and walked away, leaving her standing there alone.
"Uhhhh " she let out a loud and long sigh.
*******
Elaine was almost done with her portion of work when she saw a beautiful "forget me not", it was so beautiful that her eyes couldn't just let go of it, she wondered how it grew here, it was just there alone, away from it's family.
She bent down towards the flower and was about to touch it's petals when she began hearing a mix of voices, it wasn't like the one she heard when she first came, this one was clearer and more humane.
"Come here"
"Don't touch those"
"I won't, I just want to see it"
"Be careful with it"
"Is it because it symbolizes lived ones "
"Not exactly, come in, it's about to rain"
That was the last sentence she heard when it began raining heavily, that was when she jerked up and stood straight, it felt as though she was stuck in a trance it was a very short one and at the same time, a very long one, looking around, all the students had long gone, she was just the only one standing idly in the middle of the rain, when suddenly that bone numbing fear came again, but this time around, like never before, she began feeling so scared that her knees gave out and she fell to the ground holding herself, it was very different from the usual ones she felt, this was the first time it happened outdoors, everything seemed so scary, it felt as though even the trees, plants , building were mocking her and laughing at her plight and soon she began crying really loudly, while trying to cover her ears from sounds that were non existent, as the rain descended heavily, she thought she heard someone talk to her but thought it was those non existent voices, but this one sounded clears and closer, she slowly opened her eyes and looked up to see Allan standing tall before her, also drenched in the rain, she just kept looking as if locked in a trance, as more tears streamed down her eyes.
"What are you doing?"
