Chapter 28 - ANOMALY

In Rosalie's room, Lucas lay across her bed, while she stood beside him, her expression twisted with pain as clearly indicating that she doesn't want to do this.

Rosalie's voice trembled,"Are you sure, my love? Can't you change your decision?" as she said with some hope to convince him.

Lucas only shook his head."My love,"as he whispered firmly, though his heart ache, while he see her as if she was enduring so much pain, "don't try to convince me. Just… turn me."he said while taking a long breath to harden his heart.

Her chest tightened hearing those words again and again, knowing his resolve wouldn't falter, was agony. Fighting the breaking in her heart, she reached for his hand, gripping it tightly as though she were memorizing the warmth of his skin for what might be the last time.

Lucas met her gaze and nodded. Without speaking further, he rolled up his sleeve, baring his arm to her, silently granting her permission.

Her hardened heart wavered. Fear and love tore at her. Her body trembled as she leaned closer, lips parting to reveal her sharp fangs. She closed her eyes, whispering apologies over and over in her mind. She knew what was about to come and knew how brutal the pain would be from turning into vampire.

Lucas, watching her movements, managed a small smile. Closing his eyes, he braced himself for the torment which would come as they had told him, preparing for agony.

With a trembling body, Rosalie pressed her lips to his arm and sank her fangs into his skin. Venom flowed into him, her body shuddering with guilt and sorrow. Lucas tensed at the sharp invasion, his brow furrowing as the venom coursed through him.

When she finally pulled back, his sleeve stained, Rosalie's golden eyes opened wide and terrified for what will come. She waited for the screams, the convulsions… the brutal pain that every human have to endure for transformation.

But none came.Lucas tried to open his eyes in confusion, only for dizziness to overwhelm him as he collapsed back, unconscious.

"Lucas?" Rosalie's voice cracked in panic as she saw in getting unconscious. She clutched his hand, shaking him gently, her heart breaking as she found him not waking up. "Lucas!"as she shouted as the fear gripped her heart.

Her cry echoed through the house, pulling the others to her side in seconds.

"Rosalie, what happened?" Esme asked, rushing in with Carlisle, Edward, Alice, Jasper, Emmett, and Lisa close behind in a second.

They froze at the sight, Lucas lying motionless, Rosalie clutching his hand, and venom coming out from the bite marks on his arm as if his body is rejecting it.

"How… how is this possible?" Carlisle muttered, bending to examine him as he looked at the seen in front of him.

"Carlisle," Rosalie pleaded, her voice unsteady, "why is his body rejecting the venom? Why did he lose consciousness?" Fear gripped her chest like ice from the unknown.

Before Carlisle could answer, something impossible happened. Lucas's blade, the one always near him, lifted off the floor from the corner, suspended in midair.

Everyone froze as their eye widened looking at the magical scene before them.

"What the hell…?" Lisa shouted in panic. "Why is that blade flying? And How?"she said as if seeing the most shocking seen throughout her immortal life happening in front of her eyes.

The blade hovered above the floor as if it is alive, then shot forward at impossible speed without warning them towards Lucas. Rosalie's instincts screamed as she threw herself over Lucas to shield him, but the blade was faster than her reflexes. When the blade tip touched Lucas chest it vanished, sinking into his body as if absorbed.

Gasps filled the room.

The moment blade entered inside him, Lucas's body erupted with a blinding bright light from his every being like he is a miniature sun.

The Cullens instinctly raised their arms to shield their eyes except Rosalie, who couldn't look away as she wants to confirm that he is safe.

Her mind replayed his words: "The truth is… I feel like I need to change. My instincts keep telling me it's right, as if my very being wants me to change."when she looked at him as his body was covered in radiance.

As the light finally dimmed, they saw Lucas still unconscious, but glowing faintly, his body alive, as they hear his heart thrumming with something foreign yet powerful as it echoed throughout the room like a drum.

Esme whispered"What on earth is happening to him?", her voice trembling with fear and awe as she looked at him.

"I don't know," Rosalie admitted, never taking her eyes from him. "But before I bit him… Lucas told me that, his very being wanted to change as if telling him to change. I think my venom wasn't the cause but it was the trigger."

Emmett let out a long breath, forcing a crooked smile to calm the tension. "So he knew something would happen and he chose this. Maybe… maybe it's good for him."as he proceeded what was happening with his muscle brain.

"Yeah," Jasper murmured, though worry lingered in his voice. "Maybe this is what he was meant for."as he looked at him.

Alice said softly, "Everything will be fine," almost to herself, clinging to hope for the better.

Edward remained silent, jaw tight. But his eyes betrayed his little bit concern as he looked at him.

Rosalie pressed her ear to Lucas's chest, confirming again, even if she was hearing his heartbeat echoing throughout the room, as relief flooded her. "His heartbeat is still there," she whispered. "He's just unconscious."as if it reduced some fear in her heart.

Alice glanced at the spot where the blade had vanished. "His powers are… beyond anything we've seen, as their is no human like him we have ever seen, and that blade wasn't ordinary, when it was flying it feels like the blade is alive."

Esme nodded slowly, her voice hushed. "This boy… standing near him feels like standing before the sun itself."she said as if trying to solve the puzzle in front of her.

They all fell silent, realizing the truth in her words as they also feels the same.

"Even his breathing style, it's called Sun Breathing and I have never seen anything like that before," Lisa added, almost reverent. "Everything about him… it points to the sun."she said as if trying to figure out the mysteries about him.

Rosalie's eyes softened as she gazed at the flame-shaped mark on his forehead. Her Lucas. Her love. The one who even in unconsciousness state seemed to burn brighter than anyone else.
