"Well?" Death removed the broken pieces off of Yumi's body, which seemed unaffected, untouched, not even an ounce of injury on her. Not even the pain remained. It really was her afterlife that she had been transported to.
Yumi looked back at Death with a cold stare, unable to determine which path to take. The past was a complete nightmare she wouldn't want to relive and her dreams were too absurd to even exist in, especially those dreams with buildings and elevators. But some dreams weren't bad, and terrible dreams are definitely better than the past.
"I chose dreams." Yumi sighed as she got up from the ground.
"So we're gonna be visiting your past!" Death said in a rather excited manner, grinning in the most devilish manner as stared at Yumi's frozen self. Why? Why must life and afterlife be so painful? Why must even death laugh at her face?
Snap! Death snapped it's fingers in Yumi's face and everything surrounding them started to blur. Their surrounding started to revolve around them. Yumi started to feel dizzy as everything shifted and changed, an unsettling painin her heart started to grow. What lied in front of her was her past, her childhood memory she deeply wished that she could forget.
They were in the S society, where Yumi had lived for at least three years or so when she was a child. It was before she'd moved to another city. It was the society where she'd last seen her father, however this memory isn't of the last time.
Her dad and had picked Yumi and her mother from the airport when they'd come back from a trip. He was dropping them off at their house. Yeah, her parents were separated and Yumi lived with her mother.
As he dropped them off, the three sat in his car. While our Yumi and Death stood outside in the park, watching the three.
It was nighttime, youmg Yumi was sitting in the front seat, her mother in the back.
Yumi's dad: My younger brother, he passed away in February.
Yumi: Huh?
Yumi's mom was surprised, considering that the younger brother was barely 30 years old. "How?"
Yumi's dad: He was poisoned. He'd gone to visit his friends. According to the police, they must've done something to his drink because he was dead in the morning. His friends were gone. My brother's body was ice cold, decaying.
The young Yumi after hearing this, vomitted right there, in the car. He was her favourite uncle, the uncle who was so much kinder than the older uncle. To hear that he was poisoned to death, especially at her age was.. disturbing to say the least. She was taken out of the car where she continued to vomit and cry for sometime.
Yumi and Death watched from afar. Yumi's eyes were dry, cold and somewhat unfazed.
"Your uncle died from being poisoned?" Death looked at her, slightly amused. "I mean, I think I do remember your uncle. You had two uncles, one is your father's older brother and one was the younger one, who died. He was the youngest of them all. It's tragic. Why was he poisoned, though?"
"How am I supposed to know? I just know that how he died... He was the sweeter one, the older uncle teased me too much. I felt shocked that that's how he died. I didn't even know that something like that can happen to normal people."
"I agree. You'd generally expect special people to be killed off like that, not a commoner. It's tragic."
"Yeah... Maybe he just like my father, sometimes I wonder. If he was killed, then he must've done something wrong to his friends. Either that or his friends hated him for no reason, but enough to kill him..."
Silence took over the atmosphere as they continued to watch the three. Young Yumi left with her mother back to her home, whereas her father disappeared into air as he drives off. Afterall he was no longer a part of the memory.
Death snaps its fingers and two return into the darkness. Where from there were they to go? The journey was long and there remained an infinitesimal amount of time that remained with them...
