Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

Slam! Whack! Gush gush gush! It was absolutely MARVELLOUS! You could not have imagined how it looked, and I'm not here to describe that beautiful murder of a dead person.

Yumi lay on the road, groaning in the agony of being put down by a building. Death laughed at her. It was only after a few moments that she realized that they hadn't been standing where they had been standing at all. Yumi had been standing right below the collapsing building. Genjutsu goes crazy when you're dead, and yes, Death laughs in your face, pointing its gnarly finger at you and cackling like a bastard. You wish you could kill it, but there's no way you can kill Death. How irritating...

"Oh my, that was hilarious!" Death laughed in her face as she looked at it with an irritated expression. It was terrible how she could experience the pain without facing any real damage to her already dead self. Strange ways that death works, I suppose.

Tick Tock. Clicking Clock.

"Do you want to know the time that it is in real life?" Death asked.

"Yes, I guess."

"Why?"

"I don't know. I guess I was just... curious."

"Curiosity killed the cat."

"How is that being applied here?"

"I don't know, I just remembered it."

"I see..."

Randomness. Entropy. All that controls the universe. Vagueness. Delusions. Memories. Illusions. What does it all really mean when you're stuck in a place like this? No will of your own, stuck to suffer alongside what is supposedly called "Death". Do these things ever happen to other people, or is it all just a dream? Hell? "Hell is a state of mind". Was this it?

"So, what's next?" Yumi asked, unfazed by it all.

"Do you care about everything or anything that is or will happen to you?" Death asked, a bit softly than usual.

"I don't know. I will if I remain here, like this forever, but I won't if I shall make it out of this place someday, not that this place's effect will vanish."

"You're.. interesting."

"I was told I'm boring and monotonous."

"Well, I guess it is always the weird ones that are the amusing species, no?"

"I suppose."

"Well, will you tell me about yourself?" Death looks at her with a slight hint of curiosity in its tone, its hollow eyes gleaming.

"Why should I?" She responded, defiantly. Why, with that tone? Was there really any need to be defiant? Not really, but it's just low level anger that arises when you're stuck between a building and a road.

Regardless, Death looked ahead at the road and continued to talk. "Well, you seem interesting enough. I think you have a past worth looking into. Generally, by now people are begging to be let go of but you're comparatively more calm and almost willing to suffer... So do you want to travel to your past right now or would you like to travel to a dream that you may or may not remember?"
