Chapter 9 - Ch9- Dead Man's Town pt.3

Hunger. Something I'd have talked about if I wasn't sleepy, or busy thinking about what happens next in the story.

NEXT!

Yeah, it's not a good situation when you get murdered by a beloved person and then you're sent to the afterlife. Yeah it's bad when you're meeting Death itself or something. Yeah, I know it's just terrible when terrible things just randomly start happening to you and you get chased by literal freaks of nature. But what's the worst thing is that you're lost, abandoned by literally a magical being in a world you don't understand or know the laws of, and you're hungry. What are you supposed to even eat? What type of money do they have here? But yeah, c'est la vie. Or c'est la afterlife, since it fits best.

With a sigh, Yumi decided to look around and understand the situation. People were buying carpets, clothes, utensils and as for the currency, it seemed to be gold coins.

"I want -1550.990 yukzul and no more than that, Lady! If you can't pay the exact amount that I've asked you, don't try to buy!" The shoplifter shouted at some lady trying to buy what appeared to a very expensive vase. But -1550.990? Yukzul? Assuming that yukzul is the currency, doesn't -1550.990 mean that he'd have to owe the lady 1550.990 yukzul? And why did he need an exact amount? Paranoia or something?

She walked a bit farther to look at the food stalls. Everything started to make more sense. The menus that hung at the stalls said it all.

Blunsin's Food Stall- I Menu

1. Sunshine egg = -0.25 yukzul

2. Waterlike oats = -3. 001 yukzul

3. Breadnels = -5.876 yukzul

4. Froggybits = -8.945 yukzul

5. Peristaltic noodles = -7.65 yukzul

.

.

Yumi looked at some other menus that provided the same dishes at similar prices. What were these? Froggybits and Waterlike oats sounded the worst of them all. Sunshine egg doesn't sound too bad but in this world, can you really trust even the fundamental thought process. It's best to see the food first, and more importantly find money to even buy anything.

Yumi rummaged through the clothes that she was wearing and luckily enough she found 8 gold coins, a 595 note. It was time to see how people paid for the food and what is looked like.

She approached Blunsin's Food Stall- I from a distance, enough to be able to look at the food and see the payment process. The Sunshine egg looked like a half fried egg, that was good news. Waterlike oats was like porridge. Breadnels looked like crispy kernels made of bread instead of corn, but regardless less depressing than expected. Froggybits was made from actual frog, a bit gross if you ask. Fried, spicy bits of frogs. Peristaltic noodles.. seemed strange however. It was a bowl of noodles, undergoing peristaltic movements.

So sunshine egg sounded good. But how would she make the payment? Time to watch and learn.

"Yes, that'll be -5.876 yukzul." The vendor said. The lady put out 5 gold coins. Then what happened was somewhat insane. She took a sixth coin in her hand and just said "-.876 yukzul" and the coin just split itself into what seemed to be the ratio of 0.876 and 0.124. She handed the bigger half to the vendor and took her breadnels.

So that should do the trick. Yumi went up to the vendor, her face and body completely covered. "I want Sunshine egg." She tried to speak in a crusty voice.

"That'll be -0.25 yukzul, little lady." He smirked, looking through her act. Yumi took out a coin and held it in her hands and said "-0.25 yukzul."

To her surprise, it actually worked. She gave the money and took the Sunshine egg, almost hurriedly. She sat at a table there and sat down, eating the egg in peace. Heavenly. Sunshine egg really lived up to it's name in that sense, considering how happy she seemed, like a ray of sunshine.

She sat comfortably there, after finishing her egg. Letting out a sigh, she lay back on the chair and watched the clouds that passed by. Where had she arrived? Was this it? After dying, she just started another world. Where was Death? Was this all a part of his plan, where he throws her in another world.. was this the journey he'd talked about?

Night time had found it's way into this world. And while she contemplated her thoughts, the three men had already found her. And she saw them as well when they saw her. Another footchase it was.

She ran again and they followed. People watched. Why was it all so tiring? If only she could die again.. What a drag. The men decided to give up, I mean they must be old as anything. But she ran and after a time, found a small corner for herself.

She lay on a stone bench that was there, tired, stressed. And soon fell asleep, in hope that tomorrow will be better...
