Chapter 23 - 23. Mission change

Back in the outside world, Eli camped in the collosal ship, the cold was a constant bother, threatening to kill her before any of the monsters could.

The sea has quickly turned into a snowy field, with the ice tightly locking the humongous ship in place.

If Eli hadn't seen the state of the ship before the storm she would have thought it was just a snowy field like the rest.

Eli clumped into the upper floors trying to get to warmer temperatures, with Zach on her back.

She climbed a steel beam, reachinthe the other room, filled with charred wood, broken lamps, and a bamboo mat.

With difficulty she climbed onto the vertical room, summoning the red glowing orb.

[Heat emitter: Serves as a fire place especially in freezing temperatures]

The heat emitter floated in front of her as she sat on the bamboo mat with Zachs limp body on the mat in front of her.

She didn't actually know what to do.

All she knew was he wasn't dead.

Was he going to wake up?.

How would he eat?.

If he doesn't eat for days will he die of hunger.

The only source of light wer the punctured holes and clam make that ran through the ships interior.

A Eli crunched up in the corner looking at Zach unconscious body.

The heat emitter was doing its job and the space seemed to be slightly warmer than before.

Eli let out a foggy breath.

She couldn't rest because, there were most likely monster hiding in the upper decks.

Slight rustles from above kept her awake all through.

Then she heard a creek in the lower floor.

"What is that..?"

It sounded like something just forcefully tore it's way into the ship.

"Aww man... "

A voice echoed.

Eli peeked from above.

A group of cadets, all wearing blue robes walked into the ships deck.

"Sigh... can't believe a snow storm broke out while we were in the middle of the sea..."

A girl shivered as she spoke, looking back as a young man entered into the wreaked ships interior.

"We can't really do anything about that right now.. the weather in these parts are unpredictable" he spoke.

Eli was in the upper decks, several feet higher than them, so they couldn't see her yet.

She peeked through the door.

The ship was half tilted, locked in by the ice, because of this the interior was no longer horizontal.

It stood like a hallway turned upright.

Each room were stacked atop each other like compartments.

The doors and windowss were like vertical openings. Similar to climbing from one giant cubicle to another.

Eli nestled in the vertical shaft of rooms, in the second compartment from the ground.

Below her the group of cadets had just entered, through a huge hole created by one of them.

"Sigh... I think there are no monsters here.." a young boy, definitely younger than Eli herself stepped into the ship's interior.

"Better safe than sorry Carl..." The girl spoke, rubbing her gloved hands together.

Eli listened quietly to their conversation

Their unifor were bright blue, signally they weren't from the western dragon enterprise.

"Sky hall...." She thought.

Those guys had to be members of the sky hall organization.

The group of cadet shuffled further into the wreak, their book crunched on the broken ice.

Carl—a short and wiry cadet with frickles across his nose— hugged his arms to his chest, shivering.

"I just don't like this place" he looked around.

His gaze almost caught Eli as she hid back in the upper cubicle.

It was better to know these guys motives before, making any moves.

"You don't like anywhere colder than a fire place" the girl snapped, she was taller than Carl and looked more mature in the group with dark skin that glistened with sweat despite the biting cold.

She sharp golden eyes flashed with irritation as she adjusted her spear's strap.

Another cadet with messy black hair rolled his eyes, "Safe?, we would've been buried under the snow by now if not for that barrier talisman" He scoffed.

"You should be grateful the captain even gave us one.." she muttered.

"Grateful?, Tch.., I'm just saying. The academy didn't prepare us for this kind of nonsense.

Carl flinched at their bickering.

"Do you think the fleet even survived?, the storm came out of nowhere. I'm sure the fleet is scattered".

"Scattered is better than drowned.." The last of them came in.

A tall, well built, man with a hood over his head stepped inside.

"Stop complaining" his voice carried a steady authority.

"This wreak is shealther enought for now, once the sun returns, we regroup at the isle cathedral"

Captain?, Academy?, isle cathedral?, Eli tried to make sense of the situation.

The lanky one gave the leader a side look kicking a broken beam.

"Tsk... Still think we should've stuck near the coast, monsters or not, at least you can run there".

"Run where" the leader gave a dry chuckle.

"This is a fissure, there IS nowhere to run", with emphasis of the IS.

Silence loomed in the group, only the harsh wind whistling outside.

Eli felt her heartbeat quicken, there were cadets too, but why here?.

Finally, the girl spoke again, "Do you think it's true".

The group turned to her.

"The Central Bank official told us that the enterprises are monitoring our behavior, do you think that's actually true" she looked around.

Eli leaned in.

Central Bank official?, Was she talking about light?.

Or there were more central banks official like light sent here by the government.

"I don't know trust a world that silly goose has to say, but knowing the government?. They could pull off a charade like that" he reasoned.

So they we're not the only ones who knew about the officials.

*Ding*

A notification came through their watches at the same time.

Eli quickly placed her hand over Zach and her watch to muffle the sound.

Her heart beating even faster.

But it wasn't only on their end.

The cadets below also received a message.
