Chapter 29 - 29. loyalty and Royalty

Zach stood opposite the lady, his arms relaxed.

"So lemme get this straight. You just want to kill me to become number 1"

"That's about it" the girl tilted her head to the side looking innocent and sweet as ever.

"Damn.." Zach pondered.

"I would love to die for your cause, but I'm afraid I'll have to decline". Zach waved her off casually.

"I still have a lot of important things to do in life so I just can't die here" he lazily shrugged.

"You're the princess of the empire?. I can't believe royals have such a fu*ked up moral compass".

Zach shook his head.

"What did you just say..?" Veins popped on her temple as she tried to maintain a smile.

'It's working..' he internally grinned.

Anger usually makes people make foolish mistakes.

And one of Zach's true talents was trash-talking so it wasn't too hard.

"You have a loud mouth on you..." she waved her spear.

"It's kind of amusing" her voice deepened slightly.

"Yeah duh" his words laced with mockery.

These were the very royal that people of the lower realm worshipped like they were gods...

"Well, at least not this one".

Zach had done a few research and he knew that the royal pavilion (which is the business that the royal family owned) uses the sun tether.

They can channel the element of light and heat into their attack, creating one of the most deadly attacks known to man.

But even the most flashing and devastating attack would be useless if it doesn't hit its target.

Zach just had to be fast enough to dodge it.

Which would be a hassle because his magicpower was depleted.

This would be hard.

...

On the other end Eli and the brute stood off, the brute aura was crushing, like an ocean tightly pressing against her chest.

He looked down at her.

"You are one of the Aragoths..?.....Tch". He spat.

"Pathetic".

Eli maintained her calm expression, the blood on her had already dried, but it wasn't as much as before.

She looked like a blood thirsty war goddess, silent, cold.

The brute on the other hand was the opposite, his hulking figure stood arrogant and proud, with his lips curled up in a sneer.

He raised his axe high up, swinging it down with the force of a mountain.

The impact shattered the ice underneath, the ice separating them from the unforgiving ocean crashed with a thunderous boom, the debris sinking into the depths.

The terrain had changed.

Now the land around her was nothing more than a scatter of flat and jagged boulders of ice.

The sea belowed below.

The brutes strength had shattered the ice around them completely.

Eli gritted her teeth as she tried to stable herself.

"That... much strength!?".

She looked ahead.

The brute had already leapt from his position swinging his axe horizontally.

Eli had to cope in that fraction of a second, raising her blade before the crushing impact sent her body flying sideways.

The brute had controlled his strength, turning their battle ground into an arena.

Eli and ..... stood on this massive circular platform, totally isolating them from the world.

She looked around.

"I don't want anyone Interrupting our battle, I hope you understand... " he stood straight.

"That's great.." Eli stabled herself.

"Now no one will hear your screams.." she taunted.

At least she had learned one or two things about taunting from Zach.

The brute smiled.

"My name is Gregory Vaal... " his gaze turned serious.

"Remember it so you'll take it to the after life.."

'is this guy even at the ignorant stage!?'

Eli couldn't fathom why someone so low in the sequence had such a crushing aura.

She was sure he was one of the trainees of the royal guards.

That was the only thing that could explain such explosive strength.

He raised his axe again which made Eli tighten her stance.

She also prepared to counter.

'Astra skill- rising gust storm'

He swung the axe, raising a devastating torrent of winds that coiled into a huge tornado, Eli gritted her teeth as she dashed into the attack.

Her MP was little so all she could do was try to close the gap between them, forcing him to engage in close combat.

The winds of the tornado were moving so fast they acted as a blade delivering multiple slashes all across Eli's body.

The black body suit ripped from the impact sending small cuts and bruises all around her body.

Her skin felt numb, like it had just gone through a furnace but she pushed on.

She reached him delivering an upward slash to his torso.

Clang

The strength behind the attack was minimal but precise.

Unfortunately Gregory had blocked the attack with the rim of his axe.

He twisted, trying to knock her off her feet with his hind leg but she dodged.

The duo went about it for a while, the brute ruthlessly throwing devastating attacks at her.

Eli's only advantages were the fact that she was more agile and had better chances of throwing a surprise attack.

But that was all.

The brute moved quicker, he was stronger, he was an overall better fighter with his great axe.

She had to think.

The brute charged in, leaving no chance for her to immerse herself in her thought process.

He ruthlessly swung his axe at her and Eli could only do what she was good at.

She weaved around his attacks, dodging slashes and receiving random slashes here and there.

She really couldn't do much, the only thing that could make a difference was the amount of magic power she had.

Her magic power was at [3/100] if it could just go high enough to cast a surprise skill, that could change the tide of the battle.

'Wind burst'

Gregory moved.

"He.... Disappeared..?"

Gregory had indeed looked like he disappeared.

Then a shadow loomed behind her.

Her reaction was instant, she stepped aside missing the attack.

"Is that all you got" She looked at the man.

"It's quite obvious you are holding back..." she smirked through her grit.

"You haven't showed any of your cards yet..." he looked at her.

"Why would I go all out when you haven't given it your all..." He faced her.

"Are you perhaps toying with me?"

"Maybe" she grinned.
