Chapter 19 - A Hassle

After exiting Martha's residence I almost got lost but due to my relatively questionable sense of direction, I found myself in front my hotel.

I held the books in my hand and came in.

Getting dressed, I wondered what new info my trusty assistant had cooked for me this time.

He told Me to meet him at the north cathedral, the place where the murder supposedly must've taken place.

As I dried myself from the bath, I picked up the book that read.

–Beginner Spells of the mystic arts by M. D. Michael, etymologist of the mystic arts university of Origin law and arcane sorcerery.–

"Beginner?..."

Beginner spells were exactly what I was looking for, M. D Micheal?.. this mystic arts is beginning to look like an entire educational system.

I flipped.

–Mystic arts spells aren't of your typical fantasy story, it contains very specific laws and rules that if broken, could send even a god into madness–

*Yeesshhh* sounds a bit harsh.

Toothbrush in my mouth, I turned the next page.

–Each Orign law has a medium, a surface that it can be written upon, compromise?, and the laws stop working entirely.

*Oh...?, So it's like ink that only writes on specific parts of the paper–* I tried to compare it in my mind

–Sun Orign law is compatable with Gold, the purer the gold the better the flow of mystic energy. Storm Orign law, is compatable with Glass from pure sand, the more endowned to earth the sand is the better the spell. Blood Orign law, only works on flesh and bones, the fresher the better. Steel Orign law works best on reflective surfaces while Moon Orign law works on ice. Ground Orign laws works only on plants, and chaos Orign law works best on words.–

Absolute bullsh*t

What do you mean chaos Orign law works best on words. The other mediums are easy to understand, my does chaos have to be different.

I sighed. And flipped to the next page.

–Now that you understand the rules here are basic spells you can try.–

I glanced at the unique symbol that read "Manifest".

Then I glanced at the other page,

–You have to know the elements each Orign law posses–

Which was listed on the bottom.

Ocean– Moonlight, water, ice.

Ground– earth, lava.

Storms- wind, lighting.

Sun– fire, sunlight.

Blood–empathy, blood.

Steel– illusions metal.

Chaos–shadow, darkness, mental plagues.

I looked at the page, in contemplation.

I wanted to know of the chaos Orign law, so I would chose that as the path I would embark on.

Since I've choosen my path my eyes skimmed further.

–Oh and one thing!, you have to posses mystic energy, to activate spells.–

–Some more common beginner spells are.–

I saw a list of spells at the bottom but I'm going to go into details.

"Mystic energy, how do you get that?."

Just great, more and more obstacles.

[Purchase, information on how to get mystic energy?(-20 points)]

The floating words morphed in front of me.

"What..?"

Then I remembered what it showed last time.

[Name: Zachariah keal]

[Age: 21]

[Race: Dark skinned male]

[Rank: Mortal(suspicion)]

[Total points: 130]

[Zach's main objective: find out about miss beyfong and take revenge. (+300 points)]

[2. Find the mystic arts university of Origin law and arcane sorcerery.(+150 points)]

[3. Descover clues about the cathedral murder(+5 points)]

I glanced at the words that appeared once more.

Why not, if this thing is going to help me might as well take the opportunity.

[Information on mystic energy obtained]

Words morphed in front of me.

[Mystic energy is the fundamental construct of the universe, to cast spells one would need mystic energy.]

I continueed reading.

[There are three ways to get mystic energy, either by anchoring your existence to a demigod(An ancient) or by making it artificially)]

I'll obviously have to choose the second option.

Anchoring my existence to a demigod?, I've never seen them before, I wondered about what Aaron was said about the higher ups of the church, are those guys demigods.

I sighed.

It's way too early talking about demigods.

[The end]

"Wait?, what about how to create Mystic energy?."

[Would you like to purchase information on creation of mystic energy? [-50 points]

Why did the point consumption increase?, is it because the info is way more valuable than the last one?.

[But I had to see this through]

[Information purchased]

[Red colouring]

*Reasonable.*

[Westira plucked off of a mountain range]

*What?*

[Volcanic ash, cooled by salt water.]

"The fuck."

[Umbilical cord of a baby moose]

...

[Seven pages, of imperial court laws]

[Tooth of a pregnant leopard]

[Wine aged over 20 years]

I'm done. I sighed in deafeat.

To create mystic energy I have to essentially become a madman.

I plopped on my bed exhausted.

Maybe the Frist option is the better one after all.

"Where do I even find all these.."

[Would you like to buy the information (location of the mystic energy ingredients?) (-150 points)]

"Fuck you system."

I've essentially spent all my points on things that weren't as important.

The rest of the books talked about the valgrador family history.. and war trophies their family collected over the years.

I got dressed in a gray coat, wore a hat and headed to my Destination.

It's useless thinking about it now , or maybe, I could rack up points to learn about the location of the ingredients.

Investigating the murder could be a nice way to start.

The streets were packed today, I strolled through trough, hand in my pockets, the sound of auto created the perfect background noise to anchor my thoughts.

"Boss, where have you been....."

I heard Aarons shout across the paved road. He sat in the chair wearing a plumbers attire, he had a fake mustache that didn't cover his face at all but it made it harder to single him out of a crowd.

Aaron rushed to my side.

I've been waiting all evening"

But I told you to meet me in the evening.

"Evening.. "Aaron scratched his head.

"I realized..."

"You don't know what's evening do you.?"

I couldn't blame him, many of the main land folks weren't educated, and only the fortunate enough ones get free education I guess my luck was substantial.

"Brief me on the situation."

I stretched out my hand and Aaron handed the sheet of paper.

"Twenty people found dead in the church premises, their bodies chopped up to pieces, the locals around the area say they were unaware what happened."

It was a crime scene so the cathedral was barricades with stay-away tape.

Police and medics were still around that area so I had to get in discreetly.

This was evening and murder happened yesterday so most of the officers were lax.

I quickly slipped in using a distraction caused by Aaron.

The scene what exactly as I imagined, blood stained everywhere, all the body parts were moved by the medics.

The church were actively searching for the murderers, but it all seemed weird.

The church had mystic artist of their own, and powerful ones at the top, how would a murderer manged to cause this much of a ruckus without being caught.

I put on the gloves, bent down and rubbed the blood on my fingers.

It was cold as expected.

As a detective I was trained not to look at the scene of crime, but instead to look around it, under it, on it...

Because if a murder was cunning enough to do this then finding a lead here is like trying to find a needle in a coalmine.

"Boss.."

Aaron called out to me.

"Oh..?, you got past the police?"

"Yeah, my priest identification badge" he showed me a piece of document.

"I just told them I wanted to anoint this monument"

I looked at him.

"I suppose that's justifiable"

Aaron pointed at the massive alter.

I glanced at it too.

"What?.."

"Something broke through to the realm of the seen"

"Something...?"

From my studies of the realm of the unseen where monsters roam, I discovered that this dimension that humans are currently occupying is called the realm of the seen.

If something had broken through it simply means, someone had acknowledge it.

"During a sermon..."

"Yes"

I pondered.

"Makes sense..."

Then the next course of action is set.

[Goal: find and kill the unseen fiend: Widow of frost veil (+70 points)]

When the goal board of the system appeared, I instantly knew we were on the right track.
