Chapter 25 - Race

The girl with grey pupils also chased behind the elf.

Victor's speed was higher than most.

[Speed: 14]

[Reflex:7]

After one month of daily running, he was able to increase speed stat up to 14, but reflex stat stopped at 7, and speed stopped at 14. There was no daily quest, and the system didn't assign him the daily quests anymore.

Victor reached Zara, and she was struggling quite a lot.

" Are …you …okay?" Victor asked between sharp breaths.

Zara gasped, "I'm….huh….not."

He nodded, "I'm …going…ahead…"

Victor said, overtaking Zara.

"Wait….Huhhh!" Zara shouted.

"You need to work out!" Victor shouted back.

Zara stopped, bending on her knees, and gasping for air.

Victor glanced backward and shook his head, muttering, "She needs to increase her stamina."

He ran through the forest, and the road was made of smooth, hardened clay. On either side of the path, dense trees stood.

He caught the silhouette of Kate, running faster than him; it felt like the wind itself was helping her. He increased his speed, putting more strength into his legs.

Kate stopped before a large lake. She gasped with her hands on her waist, "I knew it, it won't be a simple run." She grumbled.

She glanced back and found Victor approaching her.

"Cute." She smiled

Splash!

She jumped in the water and started swimming to the other side.

Victor stopped and blinked in shock. "It wasn't just a run!" He took a big breath and dived in. The cold water felt refreshing against his skin.

He started swimming faster, with both hands and legs pushing the water backward in a rhythm. As he reached the midway point, Kate stepped out of the water.

The water slid down her body and tight gym clothes. She took off her shoes, heavy from the water, and put them back in her inventory. "I should have brought another pair of shoes." She muttered. She sprinted barefoot, with muscles in her body rippling under the dim light.

Victor came out of the lake shortly after. His jeans and shirt were completely soaked and heavy from the water. He took off his only pair of worn-out shoes.

"Ugh… I think I'll be needing new shoes. What should I do about these clothes?" Victor stood at the edge of the lake and started thinking.

Splash!

Splash!

He heard the sound of two people just diving into the lake.

He looked back and saw a strange girl and Luke swimming alongside each other.

"I don't have much time, let's take them off". He said to himself. He took off his shirt and pants. He twisted them and drained as much water out as he could. After he was done, he bound the paint around his waist and the shirt around his neck. He started running in his underwear and barefoot.

"It …strangely… feels good… to run like this." Victor smiled, muttering to himself. Far away, he spotted Kate again, who had slowed considerably, but she was still pushing forward.

"Huhhh…" Kate gasped for air as she ran. Her legs felt heavy, her chest burned, but she didn't stop. She glanced back, and her eyes went wide. Blush crept on her face as she found Victor running in, only wearing wet boxer underwear.

"huhhh. What ….the …hell..!" she shouted

But she didn't stop; she ran with more vigor. She glanced back from time to time.

Victor's pale body was spotless, with an upper body lean and muscles rippling under the pale skin. The lower body felt much stronger than a horse's. Kate's eyes quietly traced his underwear, but she forced herself forward.

'What am I doing? Focus! Focus! I can ask Zara after this.' She shook her head and pushed the ground backward.

'What's going on here? Is she stronger than me? Or does she also have stat of speed unlocked?' Victor thought.

Kate stopped in the middle. Before her stood a large mountain. She looked around to see if she could run around it, but there was no other path.

"huhhh… this is…too much!" Kate grumbled as she bent over her knees, gasping for air. She took a deep breath and started climbing. As she climbed sharp stones and edges on her bare feet felt painful, but she didn't give up. She climbed slowly, the mountain was tall, up to fifty meters.

Victor stopped just below Kate.

Kate glanced at the ground and shouted, "Hey, you, why are you flaunting around naked? You're distracting me."

"My clothes are wet," Victor replied, shrugging and starting to climb. He easily reached alongside Kate and looked at her.

"You…huh…are also …distracting me by wearing those tight clothes." Victor quipped and left wide-eyed Kate behind.

He climbed faster and reached the peak.

"You bastard, get back here!" Kate shouted with a red face.

Victor smirked at her.

A wooden bridge, bound by ropes, stood, connecting the forest on the other side with a deep and dark canyon under it.

Creak, creak!

It creaked as it swayed with the air.

"Is this a training or run where they are trying to determine who has the most terrible luck?" Victor muttered.

He stepped on the bridge, and it swayed with his every step. He gripped the ropes and slowly stepped forward.

Kate came right behind and bellowed, "You!"

And ran toward him without even looking where she was stepping.

The bridge swayed violently.

"Kyyyyaaa!"
