Chapter 22 - Chapter 2

The next day, Joseph woke up in his human form in his bed. Joseph rubbed his eyes and said, "How'd I get here?" Megan walked into Joseph's room and said, "Franco, Angelica, and I brought you here last night after you fell asleep in the park after turning into a werewolf." Joseph said, "Oh, well, thank you." Joseph and Megan headed down to breakfast, and Joseph made their favorites while his amulet glowed yellow. Once he was finished, Joseph gave Megan her pancakes and himself his sausage and bacon. Joseph dug in like a dog because he couldn't help himself, and Megan watched while she ate her pancakes. When he was finished eating, Joseph grabbed his coat and said, "Well, I'm headed out. I'm going to meet Angelica. She said she wanted to talk to me." Joseph met Angelica at the juice bar, and she broke some news to him. Angelica said, "Look, Joseph, I'm glad you changed me from bad to good. And I enjoyed our adventure, but you see, even if we're together, it's dangerous. Your bites are venomous to my kind, and my bites are venomous to yours. That's another reason why my ex-friends did what they did and why I was out to get you. So, I'm sorry, but it's over. I love you, and I don't want to kill you. And I'm sure you feel the same way about me. So, goodbye." Angelica then walked out of the juice bar after breaking up with Joseph, and Joseph ran home crying with his amulet glowing blue, because his heart was broken.

After breaking up with him, Angelica looked at a picture of Joseph and started to sing in depression, because she felt horrible for what she had done. She sang about what she wanted and how Joseph was open to it, but now it's time for her to move on and leave everything behind. She then sang about what happened on their adventure and how she liked it and Joseph. Angelica then peered out of the alley and saw Joseph, singing about how she thought she was over him, but here she is stalking him again. Joseph then slowed down and started to sing to the same melody Angelica was. Joseph sang about how he couldn't believe that all this time Angelica and he had been dating, but he never thought it would come to this - they're officially broken up. Joseph then sang about how he never noticed that he could have killed his girlfriend, but in his defense, he was in love with Angelica. But now they're relationship has come to an end, so he's going to make the most of everything while the years get spent. Angelica pictured themselves dancing together and sang about how she could have been his girlfriend forever. And Joseph sang about how he could have been her boyfriend forever while he pictured himself pushing Angelica on a swing. They both kept imagining what would happen if they stayed together and sang about it too. They finally started to sing simultaneously on opposite sides of the city, their voices echoing in the distance. They sang about how they could have stayed together if it weren't for their issue. All the other one had to do was say it. And now that they're apart, they suppose they'll always be friends, even though they both wanted so much more. Angelica took a deep breath and said, "I'm sorry."

When Joseph returned home, he broke the news to Megan, telling her what had happened and why he didn't want dinner. Joseph spent the rest of the day, miserable, under his blankets, crying while Angelica walked into her house mad at herself. That night, Angelica stayed at home and found the rose Joseph gave her when he snuck into her house. She looked at it, and it reminded her of Joseph. She also heard a wolf howling outside, but the moon wasn't full so that it couldn't have been Joseph. However, the howling noise reminded her of Joseph. Joseph then walked out on their podium at his house in his pajamas and saw a few bats in the sky, reminding him of Angelica. Then he just sat down on the podium, feeling sorry for himself, because he missed Angelica.

The narrator said, "A week had gone by since Angelica and Joseph's breakup, but Joseph was still miserable and crying with his jewel glowing blue, because he was still sad." Franco then came by because Megan called him. They then knocked on Joseph's door to check on him. Megan said, "Joseph. I'm here with your best friend, Franco." Joseph got up and said, "Oh, hi, Franco." Franco covered his nose and said, "Yuck. Joseph, when was the last time you showered?" Megan said, "It's been a week. He doesn't eat, he doesn't shower, and he never leaves his room." Franco said, "Leave us. I think I know a way to cheer him up." Megan left, and Franco brought out his duel disk from his bag. Franco said, "Come on, Joseph, let's throw down." Joseph said, "Sorry, Franco. I can't explain it, but that part of me is nowhere near." Franco said, "Ok. Well, the Joseph I know always likes to sing. How about you sing a song?" Joseph curled back under his covers and said, "Angelica and I always sang together." Joseph then started to cry again. The narrator said, "Joseph was too heartbroken to do anything. Because almost all his favorite things reminded him of Angelica. Franco spent hours trying to cheer up Joseph, but nothing worked, so Franco thought he was going to regret this, but he figured he had no choice."

Franco left Joseph's house, stopped by his lair, and went over to Angelica's house. Once he arrived, Franco saw Angelica looking miserable on her porch. A wooden stake then landed at her foot, and she wondered where it came from. Angelica looked ahead of her and saw The Slaying Mask. Angelica said, "Franco?" Franco took off his mask and said, "Yes." Angelica said, "Why are you trying to kill me?" Franco said, "I'm not. That was to scare you. Joseph's a mess because of your breakup. He doesn't duel, he doesn't sing, and his amulet always glows blue. It's only a matter of time before he gives it all up. He won't duel anymore, he won't sing or dance anymore, and he might even give up his werewolf powers." Angelica said, "Sounds like a bummer, and I agree, he's a mess, but it's also only a matter of time before he snaps out of it."

Franco said, "But tell me. Tell me why. Why did you break up with him?" Angelica said, "For both our safety. I can disguise my vampire scent and get rid of my sun weakness, but the one weakness I can't cure is the bite of a werewolf, which Joseph is. Not even Raven has found a cure yet. If we were ever harmed, Raven would give us a cure for garlic or something, but the one thing she can't find a remedy for is werewolf bites. Also, if I bit him by mistake, like maybe in a kiss, I could kill him, and I love him. And I know he loves me, but he has to let me go. Because if you love someone. And I mean, if you truly love them, you'll do anything for them. Even if it means letting them go." Franco said, "Even if it hurts?" Angelica said, "Especially then." Angelica said, "So, I guess I'll see you around." Angelica went back inside and ran upstairs crying, because she let Joseph go.

Franco reported back to Joseph as "The Slaying Mask" and told him what Angelica had told him. Joseph said, "I guess she's right. But, I'm going to need some time." Franco then called Angelica, and she answered. Angelica said, "Hello." Franco said, "Well, I gave him the message and he's doing ok. But he's still a wreck." Angelica said, "Well, at least now he understands." Angelica then hung up, and Franco couldn't believe it. Franco then patted Joseph and said, "You'll be ok, Joseph. Who knows. Maybe you'll find someone new." Joseph got up and said, "What?" Franco said, "Yeah. If Angelica dumped you for both your safties, she must like you. And who knows, maybe there's a werewolf lady out there waiting to be found." Joseph said, "We'll see." Joseph's amulet then glowed yellow because Franco made him happy. Franco and Joseph then hugged.
