Evelyn's POV.
"Get your flowers here… it's cheaper, and better today." I took a sniff of the flower I was advertising to make it more believable, but it seemed no one was ready to get any.
"Maybe today's not just my lucky day," I explained, and I sighed, allowing my butt to take a seat on the stem close by.
"There are so many times I really wished I was born rich, or mum was alive. If she was alive all these wouldn't be happening. Dad had been working overly hard," I sighed as I talked to myself. Well it wasn't news. I had been doing this for the past ten years because my mum died when I was born, and I had to support my dad because his health started to decline.
Well let's just say his little shop wasn't enough to cater for our needs, and I also had to support him.
Just then I saw a man passing by, and I sprung up to my feet, picked up one of the flowers, and waved it to a man I saw.
"Get this for your wife. There's a discount today because it's my 18th birthday." I explained. I wasn't ready to give up. I was going to make sure I had enough sales today.
However, the uncaring man passed me without even sparring me a glance.
I frowned immediately after he walked past, finally settling for what my mind had already told me earlier. Maybe it was a really bad day.
I sighed again, and this time took a seat. My heart ached, I hadn't made any money, but luckily, it was still noon, maybe the moon goddess would do something about it later.
Just then, from the corner of my eyes, I noticed a strange movement going on. My brows arched into a frown, creased lines appearing on my face. My heart beat was also elevated.
I needed to understand more of what was actually going on. My throat dangled, and I squinted my eyes to see some men who were wearing masks. They weren't together, but it seemed as though they were working together.
Before I could tell what was happening, a fire erupted, and my heart drummed like crazy. I tried to move, but my feet planted to the ground, my eyes, watching the flames erupt.
"No, no…" I whispered, and swallowed, but then I noticed the men taking some women who they had caught.
"Let me go! Leave me alone!" The first woman, and then the second, and then the circle continued. They were taking as many as they could find, but I didn't know the reason.
Managing to crawl to safety by hiding behind a tree, I watched everything unfold. My lips were pressed together, and I swallowed, that was until I saw a young girl was captured as well.
She looked no younger than eight years old, and as she was carried by the man in the black mask, she looked scared. Her legs waved in the air, alongside her arms, and her loud pitch voice echoed in the sky.
"Help!!!" She screamed, fighting her way off, so she could run away. However, there was no escape.
The women were being taken and placed in cages. I, on the other hand, remained where I was until I saw the little girl.
Her plea for help riled up something in me, and before I knew what was happening, I already rushed towards where she was.
"Let her go!" I charged at them, but before I could even get there, I heard a loud bang, followed by my head spinning before my body dropped on the ground.
Everything still wasn't clear to me until I saw two men in black towering to stare at me. However, my eyes were too heavy to stay awake. "I'm coming…" I gasped, and before I knew what was happening, everything turned pitch black.
"Ugh, fuck…" I groaned. I didn't know how long I was blacked out for, but as I slowly opened my eyes, I was woken by the whimpers of the little girl.
We were all constrained, but it seemed like she was more worried about It than I was, trying so hard to free herself as she cried softly.
"No, no, don't cry. That's not what we should be doing. We are going to be fine. Do you understand?" I tried to encourage her, but meanwhile my heart was drumming.
We were in a dark room with very little lighting from the sun which made the place have a gloomy atmosphere. Maybe that was why she was scared. Maybe she was trying to be strong, but the fear in her wouldn't let her.
"Don't worry about it okay, I'm he–"
My words were interrupted by the loud rustling sound coming from the iron door. I shut my gaze towards there, and I immediately frowned. That wasn't what I was looking for, but I got it anyway.
It was obviously a man. Despite the mask on his face, I could tell from his build, and he held a metal plate in his hand that contained food.
"Eat up," he instructed, but when he turned his back towards me, I just asked him my own questions.
"Who are you, and what exactly do you want? I want an answer because I demand to be free now! Are you rogues, what do you want from us?!" I screamed with veins popping my front neck, and my head, and my eyes shot red.
My chest danced around as I tried to process what was happening. It wasn't as easy as expected for me. His silence made me more angry, but I pressed my lips together when I saw his gaze, it was actually beyond me.
However, a bone chilling laughter erupted from his lips. I literally felt goosebumps on my skin, and I stared at him, hoping that everything was going to be fine.
"You're quite a feisty one," he expressed, crouching to my level. He didn't remove his mask, and because I was bound by chains, I couldn't either.
"But don't worry, your buyer would eat you the moment he sets his eyes on you, that I'm sure."
