Chapter 34 - Ep. 10 — Siblings, I

The guards started to slowly creep forward, before one turned around noticing me.

"w-what are you doing here!?" He whispered.

I was shocked that this entire time they hadn't realized I was there. I wasn't being quite or sneaking around and I could have been sure at least one of them had noticed me… but no, they somehow didn't.

Them noticing me now of all times isn't great either.

"what??" I responded.

"i've been following you lot this entire time?"

I could almost see a surprised visual line go around his head as he responded, "oh, really?" He laughed as he grabbed the back of his head.

"y-yeah…" I responded as I looked back at the group.

I was dumbfounded. They had somehow already left us behind not noticing us talking. They really aren't the brightest.

I decided to take this moment and ask him what was happening, and as I did I noticed his badge, LLE #5-49.

"what's happening, and what does your badge mean?" The meaning of his badge wasn't that important, but I noticed how all of the guards I've seen have had different layouts on them.

"m-my badge?" He slowly lifted his visor up as he looked at his badge.

"that's just my rank order… it goes from 1 being the team captain all the way down to 5, which is just general guards." He made hand signals as he spoke.

"in rank 5 there are 50 guards… meaning i'm not last!" He said so proudly.

"u-uh… oh." My face was expressionless as this really was a useless question.

"well then what about the alarms."

"oh the-" Before he could finish we heard a giant smash noise coming from where the guards had gone, then a ton of guns going off.

"CRAP!" The guard yelled as he bolted off.

I quickly followed suit but as we got closer, the guns slowly fizzled out.

Did they win? We both made it to the end of the hall and I stopped grabbing my knees gasping for air.

I was breathing hard as I asked, "Did they already fix the problem?"

The guard didn't respond, so I stood up and looked at him, and his face was struck with fear at whatever he was looking at.

"What's-" I started saying as I turned to see what he was looking at.

As I laid my eyes on the figure I froze as I realized who it was.

"A-Anatoly?" I muttered.

The man who was asking for my help earlier was also there… he was holding his arm in pain standing across the room from Anatoly. They had just been in a fight, and Anatoly was winning.

"D-do you know him?" The guard quietly said trying not to get their attention.

Blood rolled off his arm as he held it breathing heavily. He let out a slight cough with some blood spitting out before catching a glimpse of us in the corner of his eye.

"L-Lydia!?" He shouted, but he shouldn't have taken his eyes off of Anatoly.

Anatoly bolted forward so fast that the man couldn't react in time, sending him flying into the wall.

There was a loud smash noise as a crater was left in the wall. Dust and rubble fell from the ceiling, and the man fell to the ground.

Shaking off some blood, Anatoly shouted at me, "Nice distraction!" I let out a breath of disapproval as that was not my intention…

As the dust settled, I noticed that Anatoly didn't look much different than usual… how did he do so much damage to him if he only transformed his arm?

"Anyway! Looks like we found the exit-" He jokingly stated before getting interrupted.

A giant gust of wind flew by as the man had surprise attacked with a punch so strong it sent huge debris flying back. Me and the guard had to quickly step back as the wind left a cut in our faces.

"Ouch!" The guard yelled as he grabbed his cheek.

He looked back up and his eyes glistened with hope, "YOU GOT THIS CAPTAIN!" He flung a fist of victory in the air as he shouted.

I looked at him for a moment, but I couldn't say anything… I couldn't believe it, but I didn't know who I wanted to win. On one hand, the captain offered me something… the truth. On the other, I thought I killed Anatoly, but now that he's alive… well, he's the only one I can fully talk to.

I grit my teeth, hoping he would survive the punch. Please…

To our shock, he grabbed the captains arm, flung him into the air, and pulled him over his head slamming him into the ground. The captain let out a small cough of blood as he landed.

A shock wave of air flew past us, as Anatoly stared at the captains knocked out face. How did he block that punch? Actually, how did he even react fast enough to do that…?

None of that really matters right now though… something was more important.

I could see it, Anatoly's gaze, he was going to kill the captain.

Without thinking, I dashed forward shouting, "WAIT!"

As he was looming over the captains body, he looked up at me.

"What." He said menacingly.

"D-don't kill him…" I stuttered.

The guard that was with me ran towards us yelling at me.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!"

Anatoly quickly dashed toward the guard and knocked him out. I was frozen in fear when he appeared behind me. Something was different about him…

"Why should I listen to you?" He coldly retorted.

I stiffened up and slowly lowered my head. Was he mad at me? What kind of stupid question is that… obviously he's mad at me. I'm the reason he got shot in the head-

Wait how is he still alive?

I quickly turned around forgetting my fear and said, "I saw you die… h-how?"

He was a little shocked by my sudden change, but still answered me.

"I heal really fast…" He walked toward the captains body as he told me.

Whoa! Does this world have… super abilities? I know there was something to do with an X gene, but I can't remember what that was about.

"Did you gain that ability when you woke up?" I asked curiously.

He crouched down near the captain and said, "Wake up? I mean I guess… I was born with it."

Born with it? Does that mean he had it before awaking here-

"So why can't I kill him?" He held his weaponized arm near the captains throat.

"B-because! He still has information that I need…"

His eyes were piercing, that wasn't enough for him.

"You- you know the world's ending… right?"

His eyes widened as I said this, and he quickly got up.

"A-ah that! I leave him to you then!" He spun around and started walking towards the exit.

"Not that he's ever been any help." He mumbled under his breath.

"I can't stay here!" I shouted as I carefully stepped across the captains body and caught up to Anatoly.

I'm surprised he gave up killing him so fast, but I can't stay here right now… Yuri's still at home. Oh, that reminds me.

"There's someone who wants to see you." I said as I looked at him.

"Who?"

"Yuri… he thought you were already dead I'm pretty-"

"Sorry?" He turned to me and grabbed my shoulders.

"You mean, Yuri, Orlov??"

"Y-yeah." I said as his face was really close to mine.

"Then lets go!!" He shouted as he ran off.

I shouted back, "You don't even know where you're going!" before stopping for a second as I grabbed my arm.

I was a little taken aback, and was sort of jealous… why'd he care so much about a sibling that wasn't really his.
