Chapter 35 - Ep. 10 — Siblings, II

I guess Lydia had a sibling… but he's dead now, and I had no connection with him. How does Anatoly have any connection with Yuri? Like… how does he even remember him? I still can't remember who Leo was even though I know he was Lydia's brother.

"You coming?" Anatoly was standing near the exit waiting for me.

I was here for so long that the day was almost over. Would Yuri even be home anymore?

As I made my way out the door, I looked around. It was a huge facility, completely gated off from the outside with stone walls. They sure do take their security seriously…

Luckily, the walls were quite a distance away, so any guard stationed there shouldn't see us, or at least be able to tell who we were.

Anatoly started walking off passing by some parked vehicles.

"Where are you going?" I asked as I followed along.

He turned around and started walking backwards as he answered me, "Looking for the coolest car, obviously!" He smirked

I chuckled as I looked around.

"Perfect!" He shouted as he dragged his hand across the cars hood.

The car was probably the only normal car still in the lot, as the rest of the vehicles were futuristic. This one was an old convertible, and whoever owned it, left the hood open.

He went ahead and opened the passenger door for me and I quickly stepped in.

"Sooo is this your car?" I asked him as he closed the door.

"Nope!" He walked around and got in giving me a confused look.

"Huh?" I looked over at him.

He bent down and started messing with some wires.

"Probably one of the only cars I still know how to start." He said as the engine revved up.

"H-how??"

"A magician never reveals his secrets!" He exclaimed as he put his arm on the back of the chair and backed the car up.

"Uh-huh."

We slowly drove toward the walls, where the exit was gated off.

"Do you have a plan?" I quickly asked him as we got to the guards guarding the way in and out.

"Yep!" He said as we pulled up.

"Excuse me sir, ID?" The guard said holding her hand out.

"Uh yeah, she works here. Her name should be on your records."

The guard stared at me with no sign of emotion. What did she want?

Anatoly turned his direction toward me and cleared his throat.

"Ohh! Sorry, Lydia…"

She kept staring at me with her hands on the keyboard.

"Hunter!" I exclaimed as I realized that was what she was waiting for.

"I know…" Then why did you wait??

"Not like anyone wouldn't." She muttered under her breath.

She finished typing and a camera slowly lowered from the arch above us. A bright blue light shined down slowly scanning my face.

[Lydia Hunter]

A voice inside the guards area confirmed my identity.

The camera slowly started going to the left, to scan Anatoly's face.

Oh no… if it scans his face, then we'll be in trouble.

I quickly shouted gibberish… I have no clue what I just said, but they both turned their attention towards me staring at me. My face slowly turned red as I turned my head away.

AGGGGHHH WHY!! I screamed in my head, but at least the guard got distracted, so the camera stopped moving closer.

"What she was trying to say is you heard what's happening back there?" He quickly covered for me.

"Uhh… oh the alarms went off I think."

"Get this, this idiot was messing around with files on the captains computer, setting off the alarms!"

He laughed before continuing.

"The captain caught her, and now she's in huge trouble-" He couldn't help but burst into laughter.

The guards eyebrow lifted…

WHAT WAS HE DOING!?! WAS HE TRYING TO GET US CAUGHT-

"AH HA HA HA-" The guard burst into laughter as well.

"AH SHE'S DONE IT NOW!" They both started laughing harder.

I couldn't help but smile uncomfortably… why was it so funny?

"Ah, so he asked me to drive her out of here while he decides what to do…"

"Good ridden!" She scoffed.

"Well you know… her brothers probably going to get her off the hook, again." He sounded annoyed while saying this.

"You know it." She rolled her eyes.

"Well I should probably hurry off before he comes out here and 'rescues' her…" He air quoted as he talked.

"Okay thanks for-" She paused when she looked at me.

"Getting her out of here." She stared blankly at me as she opened the gate.

"You betcha!" He saluted as he drove out.

As we got onto the road, we drove in silence for a while.

We drove past a couple destroyed egg shaped things before he finally said something.

"Sooo… where are we going?"

I leaned my arm on the door as my hair flew with the wind, and ignored him.

"Come on… you know I didn't mean it." He looked over at me.

I wasn't really mad- I guess I was a little mad at him, but I was mostly mad because the guard was laughing so much… and the implications of it.

"Why'd she find it so funny… what you said I mean?" I pouted.

He redirected his eyes back onto the road and sighed.

"I'm going to be honest…"

"While you never tested anything or did anything to me, I could tell you were a jerk…"

"What?" I looked over at him.

"Especially the way they talked about you."

"You probably know what I'm talking about, so don't start trying to guilt trip me for using that to get us out of there…"

I leaned forward in confusion and started saying, "What I'm so-" before he cut me off.

"You don't know what I had to deal-" He stopped. He was gripping the steering wheel hard as his hands slowly shook.

"how it felt to be used as a test subject." He finished.

"So I don't care if I had to use you or anyone else to get out."

I stared blankly at him for a few seconds before leaning back in my chair. This was awkward. I could tell he wasn't lying about not caring… but that wasn't what I was asking.

This sucks. Why do I awake in a body of some jerk… whether or not she was a jerk doesn't really matter. It's more so that now people are either afraid of me, angry, or they hate me.

I miss home…

"Why does everyone have to hate me…" I blurted out without thinking.

"What?"

My face turned red as I flung my head to the right.

"N-nothing!" I exclaimed.

"Are you sure-" His words trailed off as I noticed something…

The sun was setting, so it was difficult to see what it was, but I could see it's figure.

It… it was the same type of monster that Yuri took down, and it's head turned to our direction.

"Uhh… Anatoly?" I hesitantly said.

"What… did I say something-" He turned his head to my direction, and saw it as well.

"Oh…"

The monster started bolting toward us, at an alarmingly fast pace…

It was going to catch up to us if we didn't do anything.

"STEP ON IT!!!" I shouted.

There was something different about it from the one I fought. The one Yuri killed just attacked me, without much reason to. Like it had lost most of it's common reasoning. This one though…

It wanted us.
