Chapter 33 - Ep. 9 — The Truth, III

If the alien really did kill me… I mean Lydia, then why didn't he finish me off? Is there something preventing him from doing that? Could it have something to do with what Anatoly was saying? Whatever he said that was censored? Man I cannot get over the fact that I killed him…

"Enough about the Xeno, I need to show you what I discovered." He got up from the couch and started walking over to his desk.

"Show me what?" I asked as I got up as well.

He turned his head back and responded, "Proof."

Proof? Proof of what?

"I can't expect you to blindly believe me." He said in a tone that made me believe that he was annoyed that I wouldn't, but understood why.

He got to his computer and leaned over as he started typing something.

I made my way over and he pointed to something on the screen. It took me a minute to realize what he was pointing at, but when I did, my jaw dropped.

"The truth is, we're doomed if we don't get Yuri back." He stated.

He was pointing at live footage from space of a giant asteroid, with smaller ones near by, headed towards earth at a fearfully fast pace.

"The team has confirmed that this impactor will be hitting earth within the next year or so." Why was he so calm about this?

"We've already had some of the smaller ones crash into the planet, which is what caused the X-Virus…"

I looked over at him in horror as he continued.

"They are still trying to calculate where the impact zone will be, but I'm afraid they won't figure it out until it's too late." He dropped his head.

"W-why don't you just send something out there to destroy it? Isn't that what normally happens?" I quickly stated.

"We've tried that… nothing we've sent out does anything to it."

"That's why we need Yuri… we believe his Xeno is the only one who knows how to destroy it."

"Why didn't you figure that out earlier when you had it??" I asked in frustration.

He paused and looked at me. It took a bit for him to answer me.

"The asteroid only recently got on our radar, and the Rusland lab was the one who discovered it and researched everything about it."

He paused again for a minute, and it gave me a second to think. Didn't he say that he was the one- before I could finish my thought, he continued.

"They were going to send us their research, but right before they could, Yuri started rampaging destroying that facility."

"His Xeno didn't want us to know whatever they found out, so it used Yuri to destroy the evidence."

"My team has been in a frantic state working overtime to learn as much as we can before it's too late."

I guess that would explain the purple spots under his eyes…

"Wait, didn't you say earlier that the Xeno was preparing the planet… is this what you meant?"

He looked confused for a second, but then quickly responded.

"Y-yes! That's what we're guessing…"

"Uh- okay… then what am I suppose to do?"

Why did he want my help? I get the world is ending and all that, but why me? I have no clue what's going on nor do I even know how I'd be of any help. I also feel like he keeps adding things…

"I'm going to be honest with you Lydia…" He took a breath.

"Me and Leo were not only investigating this issue."

"We both know you were there around the time that Subject 2C lost her Xeno."

"Wait are you blaming me?" I was shocked.

"No, that's not it, but the reason I need you is because you probably know who is to blame."

"Eh-" Of course Lydia probably knew, but I'm just in hot water here.

"Leo always told me that you didn't really like the 'company' that much…" He made air quotes as he spoke.

"but I really need to know what you or Yuri saw."

"What I saw-" Before I could finish loud blaring alarms went off and we both looked up at the red flashing lights.

[ALERT, ALERT, ALERT]

[CODE RED, CODE RED, CODE RED]

"Oh no…" He said quietly.

He quickly looked at me and said, "You don't have to decide now, but I will call you later to hear your answer." His tone was clear.

He dashed towards the door and before running off, he turned around and yelled, "MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE LYDIA!"

He bolted of right as I reached my hand out, "WAIT!" I yelled.

"I don't know where the exit is…"I drooped.

As I looked at the ground, I could hear in the distance some thumping noises. I looked back up and decided to go over to the door, and I looked out.

In the opposite way that we came, I saw multiple guards running. Whatever was happening must be serious…

As they ran past me, I thought of something stupid. I should follow them! I mean to be fair I don't know where the exit is, and this is the same way that he just ran… I don't really have any other options since I have no idea where I am.

The only downside of this is that I don't know what the alert is, and it's still blaring in my ears.

[ALERT, ALERT, ALERT]

I could die if I follow them, but lets be real, I haven't died yet… yeah that doesn't make any sense, but I followed them anyway.

I started running down the hall to catch up to them, but I was barely making any ground… man this hallway is so long. It wasn't any help either that my legs still hurt a bit. The pain wasn't super bad, it felt like growing pain or after workout pain… probably worse than that, but I've gotten somewhat used to this simple pain. It felt better than my legs being fully shattered, I'll tell you that much.

As we ran past the room that Anatoly died in, I felt a sting in my heart. I still felt really bad about it, even though I wasn't the one to shoot him, I still felt responsible for it.

We then ran past the room that I was beaten up in, and I finally caught up to the guards. I felt a shiver go down my spine as I remembered what happened to me in there, but that feeling was quickly pushed aside once we past the room.

Not because I quickly forgot about it, but because my heart dropped.

The hallway was slowly becoming more and more red. At first I thought it was just my mind playing tricks on me because of the alarm lights, but then I realized, the alarms had stopped a bit ago.

These hallways didn't use a different colour, nor a different material… it was just blood.

A lot of it, and it got worse the farther we went.

We heard a loud slam noise and the guard in the front lifted his fist up notifying the rest to stop.

In that moment, a guards body flew right above our heads, and he was coming from farther down the hallway.

He flew by us at such a fast speed, meaning whatever is up there, was close.
