Chapter 27 - Ep. 8 — The ■■■■ ■■■■■■, I

He turned toward me with his eyes narrowing as he was about to say something, but without thinking, my hand transformed and punched him in the face.

"AHHHH!" I screamed clenching my eyes closed as I punched him.

After a few seconds, I slowly opened my eyes and saw him laying on the ground lifeless in front of me.

In shock, I quickly got up and felt his pulse to make sure I hadn't accidentally killed him… I wouldn't want that again. Luckily though, he was still breathing, but was out cold.

I turned around and quickly started limping toward the door, who knew how long he'd be out for or when someone would come over to check up on him.

As I made it to the door, I peaked my head out, and looked left to right, making sure the coast was clear.

I slowly limped out and started going back the way I came from. My legs were still in so much pain from being broken, but they were definitely healing.

As I made my way down the hallway, I realized I had no clue how to get out… especially because I was blacked out when I was brought in.

I had to just keep going and hope the exit was somewhere near where I was being held. I slowly made it back to the cell I was held in, and noticed that no one had been here yet. The guy I killed… was still laying on the floor. Where did that guy go earlier? I was one hundred percent sure that I saw him go this way, so how did he miss this?

I turned around and started going slower looking back and forth trying to see if there was any door or hallway I missed. As I made my way down the hall, I noticed something weird… there was an area of the wall with its texture not aligning fully with the rest of the hallway. It was just slightly off, and almost the size of a door… a very big one.

I pushed myself off the wall and put my full weight on my legs. I was in excruciating pain, but I had to push through to get out.

I slumped against the wall and gave myself a second to breath, and then shoved myself a bit backward to see if there was someway to open the door.

I tried tapping the wall, but nothing happened, so I then tried slamming my fist against it, but that didn't work either.

"What am I missing?" I mumbled as I looked down.

"Wait, what's this?" I tilted my head as I noticed something.

At the bottom of the walls there were tiny cavities meant for decoration, but I had a feeling there was a better reason for them. As I looked at the misalignment again, I noticed that the door was currently not in its proper place… it looked like it was used frequently or slammed, causing its secrecy to be more noticeable as the door became more misaligned.

At the bottom right edge, I noticed the cavity being pushed in more… almost like someone shoved, or kicked it in? I took the gamble and shoved my foot in.

[Scanning…] I heard a voice similar to the one on the computer earlier.

[Lydia Hunter]

[Accepted]

The door quickly started lifting giving me no time to react with my broken legs, so I ended up face planting into the floor as it ascended.

"Owuch…" I grumbled as I tried to get myself up again.

I was surprised with how well I was able to get up again. I'm pretty sure it's because I'm filled with adrenaline like I was earlier while on the computer, I thought as I moved my nose a bit.

As I brushed some of the dust off of my clothes I looked up, and my jaw dropped after realizing what was in front of me.

It was a typical researching room, but there was a giant glass pod in the back center of the room, with someone floating in it. I slowly and precariously limped closer.

His outfit… if I could even call it that, looked robotic, but I could tell he was human. He had wires going from his mask outside the pod… he also had one huge one covering his whole right eye.

As I got closer, I realized that he was also chained in there… and all the wires were encased in metal.

Though, there was something even weirder than all of that… his face? I could barely see it? It was blurred, it's really difficult to explain.

His face had a fuzzy screen effect over it, or maybe giant black smudges? It was as if my brain couldn't process what was covering his face, all I knew was that there definitely was something hiding it.

At this point, I was standing directly in front of him, as I already climbed the few stairs to be at base level with him since he was floating in what looked like water.

I looked back to double check no one was there, then I tapped the glass.

"Hello?" I whispered.

There was no response. I don't really know what I was expecting… but there was a weird feeling about him. It almost reminded me of the void?

I slowly walked back down and went over to one of the researching desks to see if there was anything useful.

On the desk was multiple folders, a computer, and random equipment such as a scalpel covered in… blood? My vision became blurry for a few seconds as I had flash backs to me killing. I held my mouth as I almost vomited…

I fell to my knees as I started breathing heavily… I was panicking.

"It's-" I took a giant breath.

"gonna be okay." I exhaled.

I wiped the couple tears that came out of my eyes and got back up. I ignored the scalpel and what it implies and grab the folders. I didn't want to risk the computer giving my position away again, so I ignored it. I started walking over to what I thought was another table before realizing it was a surgical table.

I quickly turned around holding my mouth and marched through the pain in my legs back up the stairs.

I sat down at the top and sighed.

I'm such a wimp. I thought to myself.

I opened one of the folders and the first thing my eyes noticed was the subject title.

"Subject X0C?" I said out loud.

"What was Yuri's number again?"

I flipped through a couple more pages to try and find anything interesting or useful, but I froze on one of the pages as my eyes slowly widened at his name… I recognized it.

Anatoly Kozlova.
