Chapter 31 - Ep. 9 — The Truth, I

Anatoly's body fell before me with his blood flowing onto the floor.

"PUT YOUR HANDS UP!" Both guards screamed at me.

I froze in my steps and raised my hands.

Why, why, why, why, why! I repeated in my head. He trusted me even though he didn't know me, and I just got him killed.

One of the guards slowly approached me as the other one held his rifle at me. She grabbed my hands and pulled them behind my back as she slammed me into the ground.

"Why aren't you killing me!" I cried out as Anatoly's blood seeped onto my face.

"Because your stupid brother ordered us to keep you alive!" She retorted.

I don't think she knows he's dead… not that it matters anyway.

"Uhh… Amanda?" The guard who had been holding his rifle at me lowered it and opened his mask up.

"What now?" She said angrily as she finished putting my hands in cuffs and yanked me up off the floor.

"You might want to see this…" His face was pale.

She could tell he wasn't joking and tugged me along to see what he was talking about.

When she saw it, she froze. I looked over and realized what the problem was. Anatoly killed the guy who gave them their orders, my brother.

Her hand slipped off my cuffs and we just stood there. They weren't sure what to do anymore.

This was the perfect opportunity to run… but I just couldn't. I was filled with so much regret that I wasn't thinking straight and didn't care anymore. Why was I reborn into something so chaotic. I found the only person who could relate to me, and now he's dead, it's all my fault.

"WHAT'S GOING ON IN HERE!" Someone shouted as the door reopened.

We all turned our heads at the voice, and as the guards realized who it was, stood firm swinging their hands down to their sides, and the first one quickly closed his visor.

"Sir, yes, sir!" They both shouted.

"WE WERE ORDERED TO TAKE LYDIA INTO CUSTODY, SIR!" She shouted.

He froze, and asked, "By whom?"

"BY MISTER HUNTER, SIR!" She said.

As the man slowly walked in, I noticed that he had a badge just like the guards did, but his outfit was much more general like rather than a guard suit. I could see that his badge said LLE #1-01.

"Now, why would he do that?" He sounded extremely skeptical.

"Uhh- I'M NOT SURE, SIR!"

"First off, drop the sir… also stop screaming. I'm not deaf." He said as he got to us.

"YES- sorry, yes si-" She stuttered.

He got into her face and said, "Secondly, if we go ask him right now, will he collaborate your story-"

"Well-" She started speaking.

"I'M NOT DONE YET!" He yelled into her face with the scariest eyes I'd ever seen.

She cowered and averted eye contact.

"As I was saying…" He cleared his throat.

"I'm sick of your guys' attitude toward his sister, and if we ask him, and he doesn't attest to what you're saying-" His head tilted.

"Let's… just hope he does." The whole atmosphere around us changes, it was obvious he was threatening her.

"So, lets go see!" His face creepily lit up as he started heading toward the door.

"Well, that's the problem sir."

He stopped in his steps.

"What do you mean-"

"He's dead. That's the problem." He said straightforwardly as he was sick of this guys attitude.

The man looked around the room, and finally noticed the crater in the ground. He slowly approached it with uncertainty. He froze as he saw the dead body, and his expression completely changed. He fell to his knees, and after a few moments of silence, screamed.

"NOOOOOOOO!!" Tears started rushing down his face as he grit his teeth.

"not you too…" He mumbled.

Both guards lowered their heads and remained silent.

He couldn't believe or accept the sight in front of him, and snapped.

He got up, and is expression completely changed again. He looked happy… and you wouldn't even be able to tell he was crying if it weren't for his eyes and nose being red, as well as the tear stains on his face.

"You two, I need to talk to Lydia alone, per Leo's request."

"But sir-" She started saying but quickly stopped once seeing his stern face.

"Of course, sir."

They both picked up Anatoly's body and quickly made their way out of the room.

Now it was just me and him, alone.

He slowly started making his way over to me as he said, "I'll go ahead and take these off… then we should go to my office." His voice sounded much calmer now, while also sounding hurt.

With how scared the guards were of him, I didn't try pulling anything and allowed him to take the cuffs off.

As we walked out of the room, we ended up going back to where I came from. I was never making it to the exit at this point…

We walked past my brothers office, which I think this guy called him Leo, and his office was right next to it.

He opened the door and signaled for me to go in. I cautiously walked in as he closed the door behind me. His office was much nicer and way 'fuller' than my brother- I mean, Lydia's brother. It had a couple plants, multiple bookshelves, his desk, and a sofa area for guests, which we sat at.

He reached into a bowl sitting on a coffee table and handed me a sweet.

"Oh… thank you." His demeanour was much calmer than it was before. I didn't quite know how to feel.

After opening his sweet, he finally spoke.

"So… uhh…" He didn't know how to say whatever he was thinking.

"Sorry I'm just trying to get my words- something, I don't know." He placed his face into his hands.

"I know you and your brother didn't get along that well… but we both know he cared about you-"

I didn't mean to but I ended up interrupting him, "Sorry, but why do you need me and how do you know about this guy- I mean my brother?" Not to be rude, but I don't really care that Leo cared about me, I didn't know him, and I'm not Lydia. I just want to know why he wanted me instead of just killing me.

"Sorry, sorry. I forgot who I was talking to." He chuckled.

"Excuse me?" I blurted out.

"Nothing! I just mean… well, you're Lydia. Obviously you don't care."

"Also you know who I am… right?" He asked.

Not another person who Lydia knew, ughh! This makes things so annoying for me- wait?

I caught his expression and realized that he wouldn't be surprised if Lydia didn't know him. I guess it wouldn't hurt to tell the truth, I might learn something useful.

"No, I don't know you." I said bluntly.

"Oh…" His expression changed.

I almost worried that I made the wrong choice, but he didn't seem bothered by my attitude at all nor did he find it suspicious that I didn't remember him. He more so looked hurt.

"You and your brother saved me, and I know you didn't care much, but I saw you two as family since I lost mine…"

"Oh well…" He looked broken, and I felt horrible.

I was the only one left, since Leo died, but as I already admitted, I don't know him.

"Anyway! Let's ignore that. Why I really wanted to see you was because Leo left Lunar Labs to you, meaning-" His attitude changed so fast again, like he was used to it, but I ended up cutting him off again.

"Why are we brushing past that so fast-" Wait what did he say??

"We also need to talk about… uhh, oh right! Yuri was his name."

"Need to talk about who- Yuri!?!" He glared at me as I had just shown that I knew who he was talking about.

Oh no, I didn't mean to shout that out, and I don't think I was suppose to know who he was either.
