Chapter 40 - The Vampire's Mark

Silas walked into a cave, a look of disgust on his face, the potent smell of rotten flesh and dried blood. The things he must go to for competent minions. He sighs out loud as went further into the cave, a small fire lit up the dark cavern as two figures came into view.

One of the figures stood in armor, with dark energy coming off. The second was a woman of short stature. Her head was bald as she kneeled in front of Silas. The woman was grotesque with skin ashen white, her eyes held no pupils.

"Master Welcome!"She cheered with excitement.

"Rise", Slias sighed as the woman stood up. Her eyes looked with reverence that almost made him feel uncomfortable.

"Master, I was able to fully summon the body of the student in the school like you asked!", the woman shouted as she couldn't help but be excited.

"Right, I assume that it's him in the corner?", Slias questioned as he gazed upon the armored person in front of him.

The woman jumped up and down in excitement. "Yes the boy was easily seduced, willing to cheat on his girlfriend with a little skin", she giggled.

Silas sighed and rubbed his nose. "Have you made contact yet with the boy or gotten any information about the Grimoire yet?"

"Nothing, on the grimoire yet. Though we did run into the boy you've warned me about", She added.

"Oh, tell me, has he shown any new powers?", Slias inquired intrigued.

"No, if anything we found him disappointingly weak", the woman replied.

"I see", Slias muttered. "How disappointing."

Slias left Sami alone on a whim, not because the kid was strong enough to fight him. No, he felt a remnant of The Lamia's powers on the little brat. Slias's idea, one of many ideas, was hoping to unlock any latent abilities inside of the boy.

Then he could use the boy's blood to find where the gates to the demon armies were. Bringing back the destruction he oh so craved. Obviously it was more of a passing idea then a fully fleshed out plan. Though he does wonder about that boy's connection to The Lamia.

Sadly none of that matters at this moment. As of now Slias would have to rely on the witch to carry out the plans he set forth. He'd rather not have to face Mercer at the moment, it takes more energy than he can afford to expend at this juncture.

"Stick to the plan, and make sure to go after anyone close to the boy", Slias commanded as he turned to make his way out the door. "Also make sure to find a different place to hide. I'm sure they've already found the location of this place."

"Yes master", The woman agreed.

Silas soon disappeared into the night as the woman stayed to think over everything she had planned. Her main goal is to infiltrate the school and slowly locate the Grimoire her master requested.

She turned and looked at the armored figure behind her. A look of sadness crossed her face as she realized for her plan to work she would have to allow it to die. Sigh so much to do so little time to make it all possible.

"Come, let's move to a different location.", The woman instructed as she began to gather up her equipment. The figure quickly fell in line and started to help pick up the things they needed.

"Wake up", Sami whined. As he glanced down at Lyra snoring at the bottom of the hospital bed, draped across his legs.

He tried to get her to wake up, but all he did was get her to snore louder than before. With a deep sigh he decided to lay back down on the bed.

Sigh honestly he's starting to think that Onyx has been right, after the training with Anna he has been much more cocky. When fighting the minotaur he relied on using his tactics to win. Now it's like he's one dimensional at fighting, never using any magical abilities.

Granted recently it's been getting harder to use any magic. It's not even the inhibitor that he's been wearing. Ever since that fight with Silas, using a spell has felt like swimming through water. Taking more energy then it would normally require to use.

Even fighting that armored creature or whatever it was he couldn't use any of his abilities without Zoe's gauntlets. Which thankfully she had or they both would've been dead.

"It's my fault that your magic has been acting up", a voice echoed through his mind.

"Onyx!", Sami thought. Shocked that she actually spoke up. "I was going to summon you soon, though I ended up getting injured in a fight."

"I don't think you heard me, Samuel it's partially my fault why your magic is acting up.", repeated Onyx. As if trying to gauge his reaction to her statement.

Sami shrugged at what she said. "Meh, it doesn't bother me much. If you feel it's best for me to not have access to using magic then I trust you. Though I know another part of it is the inhibitor wear also."

"Seriously that's all you have to say?"Onyx asked, her tone full of confusion as she was trying to wrap her head around Sami's thinking.

"Yeah, I mean I'm more worried about why you haven't been willing to be around anymore. The rare times you are around, you're always so tired and quiet.", Sami responded.

"I'm tired Sami, truly I am.", Onyx muttered, her tone turning sad. "Trying to contain the energy in your body is truly taxing."

"No,no it's more than that", Sami accused. Crossing his arms as he vented his frustrations. "I've let you wallow in your own pity for the last few weeks. Do you think I'm stupid? That I didn't know that the people we have been fighting are people that have some connection to you?"

"Wait that's not-", Onyx began.

"Ugh common Onyx", Sami interrupted. "The only person I've had contact with outside of Lyra is you when I got attacked by Silas. Unless they're out after the minotaur which they would use his name."

"I like it better when you act dumb", Onyx sighed.

"Meh what can I say my charm is just being annoying",Mocked Sami

Onyx let a small chuckle, "Ain't that the truth"

"Seriosuly want to tell me what's been going on with you?", asked Sami, his voice full of worry as he thought about how she's been acting recently.

"I just didn't think so many of my army, so many of my mistakes still existed after all of these years", She admitted. "I told you I have many regrets, one was having a hand in creating the monsters you've been dealing with."

Sami was shocked at the news not really knowing how to process the information that she just revealed. Sami knew that she was hiding stuff, hell she practically admitted to knowing about things he saved her.

"I.I.. I don't know how to reply to that to be honest.", Sami admitted as he sat back in bed.

"I haven't been very forthcoming with a lot of things about myself, mainly due to not knowing how to tell you. A part of me was afraid you would resent me", confided Onyx, her voice low.

"Aww Onyx you do care what I think", Sassed Sami batting his eyes playfully.

"Do you always have to make a joke about everything", argued Onyx

"Yes", Sami nodded. "Life is already way too serious, it's why we should joke around when we can."

"You're annoying", snapped Onyx

"Sigh it's a curse", retorted Sami

Sami chuckled to himself as he continued to mutter inside of his head. Through this entire conversation Lyra has just been sleeping on the bed still.

"So can you tell me why I haven't been able to use spells?", inquired Sami.

"Honestly the basic way to put this, um you've been turning into a vampire what", Onyx declared. Her words coming out so fast they could barely be heard.

Sami took a second to understand what he just heard.

"Wait, what the fuck", Sami grimaced. "I'm turning into what."

"Sami just calm down",Onyx stated soothingly.

Sami began to panic as he jumped off the bed, knocking Lyra to the floor as began to make his way out the door.

"What the shit was that for a bookworm", Cursed Lyra as she picked herself off the floor.

"No time we have to go meet my grandfather now", Sami shouted as he rushed out the door. Bumping into Zoe on the way.

"Oh hey Sami glad to see-", Zoe trailed off as Sami rushed past her.

Zoe looked at Sami confused, as his backside was bare due to still being in a hospital gown. Lyra brushed past Zoe in anger too as she began to make her after Sami.

"What in the world is going on around her", Zoe muttered to herself as she followed behind Lyra.
