The words pierced me like an arrow, my hands trembled, and it felt like the world had disappeared in an instant.
I stared at my mom with the most shocking expression, unable to define the feeling I had.
"What did you mean by that?" I asked, almost choking, looking directly into her eyes.
She looked away, her eyes filled with tears, trying to control her emotions.
"Your parents died sixteen years ago," she began, her voice cracking. "Your mother was killed by a demon when she was escaping with you, while your father died in the battle between the werewolves, witches, and demons."
My mom sniffle and stood up, her eyes brimming with tears. "Your mother had just given birth to you when the news of your father's death came to her. I was your mom's childhood friend, but I was unable to save her. She was stabbed by the demon."
She continued, her voice filled with regret. "I was a coward, I deeply regretted, I was crestfallen, but there's nothing I can do anymore. Adriana is dead, and she entrusted you to me."
I stood up slowly as tears rolled down my cheek. "No," I whispered, shaking my head in disbelief.
"It can't be true. All this can't be true."
I accepted that I'm not normal, and something is definitely wrong with me, but how can I digest the fact that the person I'd called my mom for sixteen years is not my mom?
"Mum, tell me you're joking," I said, my shaking breath barely above a whisper. "It's not true, right? It's not."
My mom's eyes filled with tears, and she apologized. "Annie, I'm really sorry I kept this away from you."
I broke down instantly, my emotions overwhelming me. "So, who are my parents?" I asked, my cracking voice barely audible.
My mom took a deep breath before explaining. "Alexander, the Alpha king, and Adriana, the Luna queen of the werewolves Empire. You are the daughter of the great King Alexander and Queen Adriana."
I felt like my world had been turned upside down. "And the locket is what?" I asked, trying to process everything.
"Your mother put a spell on you to subdue your power, and the spell faded today," my mom explained. "So, this locket was given to me by her to give you on your sixteenth birthday to continue subduing your powers, but there's more to the locket that I don't know."
I took a deep breath, trying to understand everything. "But why?" I asked.
My mom's expression turned serious. "Because it's too dangerous. Your gold hair and eyes signify that you're the late Alpha king's daughter. Those demons will hunt you."
I felt a chill run down my spine. "Before revealing yourself, you have to be stronger," my mom said.
I took another deep breath, trying to process everything. "Does that mean I'm a werewolf?" I asked.
My mom nodded. "More than that. You're half witch and half wolf. Your mother is an half-witch and half-human, while your father is a werewolf. This combination led to you; you're an hybrid."
I muttered, "Hybrid," trying to wrap my head around everything.
I wore the chain, and the locket glowed before disappearing.
I could feel it inside me, like something had been awakened and merged with the locket.
"Mum," I called, a wave of panic sweeping over me.
"It's alright, you can feel it," my mom assured me. "It will keep you safe."
I walked towards her and hugged her tightly. "No matter what, I will still call you my mum," I told her.
My mom apologized, tears streaming down her face. "I am so sorry for not telling you earlier."
I held her tightly, trying to comfort her. "You don't have to be sorry, Mum. You did all this for me."
Tears rolled down my cheek as I whispered, "You are still my mum."
Back in my room, I stared at my parent's portrait that my mom had given me.
My gold hair and eyes were gotten from my dad, and he was indeed handsome.
My mom, an amazing beauty with long ebony hair, her cute eyes... The older version of me.
I couldn't help but wonder, what does the future hold for me? Will my life ever be normal after knowing all this?
