Chapter 1 - Argument Resolved

(Authors Note: Sorry to my readers for making you all wait so long for book 4 in this series. I've been busy and couldn't write. So without further ado, enjoy the first chapter in book 4!)

I watched Jon and Luna play. Ken was busy ignoring Jon because they had a fight ten minutes ago. It wasn't fun breaking them apart since Jon was nine and Ken was eight. Little Luna was three and I was holding our fourth child Amanda. The game Jon and Luna were playing was Jon would disappear into a shadow and Luna had to guess where he'd appear again. She guessed correctly a couple of times but got it wrong the most.

"Are they still playing that game?" Loyd said coming and sitting beside me.

"Yeah, Luna loves it," I replied looking at Mandy who I was in the middle of breastfeeding.

"What power do you think she'll have?"

"No idea."

We both watched our oldest and second youngest for a minute. "Jay and Nya just left with Tina. They're apparently taking her to the park," Lloyd said.

I glanced at him. "I know. Nya had asked if I wanted her to take our kids with them."

"Why did you say no?"

"Because Ken and Jon might get into another fight. They're pretty mad as is," I said tilting my head to Ken who was pretending to read a book but was actually glaring at Jon. Then Jon appeared behind him and Ken punched him. Which turned into a fistfight. "Lloyd, can you go separate them? Mandy is still feeding and you know I can't stop feeding her or she'll stop crying."

Loyd stood up and walked over to the boys. He pulled them apart. "Enough you two. Why are you two fighting so much? And I don't just mean today. You two have been getting mad and fighting for the last two weeks."

Mandy fell asleep so I put her in her stroller and walked over to them. "He's always saying he wishes I wasn't his brother," Jon blurted.

"Only because you say that I'm not a good enough brother!" Ken snapped. "He said I should have been born smarter and that maybe I'm not really his brother since we don't have the same powers!"

"Yeah, well you blame me for what Adder did to you!" Jon yelled.

"It is your fault!"

"Jon, Ken," Lloyd said warningly when they both were about to attack each other again.

"Ken, it wasn't your brother's fault, it was mine. Adder wanted to get to me so he went after you two," I told him. Then turned to my oldest. "Jon, you and him have different powers because me and your father have different powers. Even if we had the same you two would still get different powers, okay? That's just how genetics work."

They both looked at each other. "But, Mom, what if Jon is the one who told Adder where you were living?" Ken asked.

"How the fuck would I even know about Adder at six years old!?!" Jon snarled.

"Language," Lloyd and I chorused."And anyway, Ken, Jon wouldn't have known about Adder," I added.

Then Lloyd had an idea. "Ken, Jon, there's an easy way to settle this," Lloyd said. "Jon, you can let Ken read your mind and he'll be able to see that you're telling the truth."

"Lloyd!" I exclaimed.

"What? It's a good idea."

"That's an invasion of Jon's privacy."

"Mom, I'm willing. Are you?" Jon asked Ken. Ken nodded and I could tell Jon had dropped his mental walls.

"Oh," Ken said softly. "You haven't been lying."

"See?" Jon said. "Now come and play with me and Luna." They both ran off and started playing.

Lloyd looked at me. "See? Nothing happened."

I rolled my eyes. "I still think you shouldn't have suggested that."

Lloyd sighed. "It worked, didn't it?"

"I suppose it did."

He wrapped his arms around me. "Then don't worry about it."

I kissed him briefly. "Okay." We sat down again and watched our kids play. At least they were getting along now.
