Chapter 1 - Creation101

Kai sat in his father's expansive office, staring out the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the bustling city below. The world outside was alive with energy, but inside Cerq Tech Industries, the silence was almost oppressive. Kai sighed, slumping back in the oversized leather chair.

"Another boring day," he muttered to himself. His father, the company's CEO, was always too busy to spend time with him, and the endless rows of cubicles and labs offered little excitement.

With a sense of determination, Kai decided to explore the sprawling complex. He wandered through the deserted hallways, his footsteps echoing off the sterile white walls. The usual hum of activity was absent, replaced by a heavy stillness that hung in the air.

As he turned a corner, Kai noticed a door slightly ajar. Curiosity piqued, he pushed it open and found himself in a dimly lit corridor he had never seen before. The air was colder here, and a faint, almost electric smell filled his nostrils.

"What is this place?" Kai wondered aloud, his voice bouncing off the walls.

He walked deeper into the unknown part of the building, passing by rows of old, dusty equipment and long-forgotten research projects. It felt like stepping into a different world, one that had been left to decay and gather dust.

Suddenly, he heard footsteps. Kai ducked behind a large, rusted machine, peeking out just in time to see an elderly scientist shuffling towards a door at the end of the corridor. The man was hunched over, his white lab coat stained and tattered.

Kai's heart raced as he watched the scientist pull out a keycard and swipe it through the reader beside the door. There was a beep, and the door slid open, revealing a dark lab filled with strange, glowing equipment.

"This must be one of the forbidden labs Dad warned me about," Kai thought, excitement and fear battling within him. He waited until the door closed behind the scientist, then crept closer, pressing his ear against the door.

He could hear the faint hum of machinery and the murmur of voices inside. His mind raced with possibilities. What could they be working on in there? Why was it so secret?

Without thinking, Kai reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, electronic device he had built to hack into the company's systems. He had used it before to access restricted areas, but this felt different. More dangerous.

"This is it," he whispered, his fingers trembling as he connected the device to the door's control panel. "Let's see what they're hiding."

With a few quick keystrokes, the door clicked open. Kai slipped inside, his eyes widening as he took in the sight before him. The lab was filled with advanced technology, far beyond anything he had seen in the central labs. Strange, glowing containers lined the walls, and a large, metallic sphere pulsating with a soft blue light stood in the centre of the room.

Kai's curiosity got the better of him. He reached out to touch the sphere, but when his fingers made contact, a jolt of energy surged through his body. He stumbled back, gasping for breath, as the world around him seemed to warp and shift.

Memories that weren't his own flooded his mind. He saw flashes of people, places, events—some familiar, others completely alien. It was overwhelming, and he felt his knees give way as he collapsed to the floor.

The last thing he saw before everything went black was the old scientist standing over him with a look of shock and fear.
