Chapter 28 - CHAPTER 29: Ancient discovery

The Bat King, despite being pierced in the head, refused to succumb to its mortal wound. Its tenacious life force only seemed to enrage it further as it prepared to unleash another terrifying attack. But just as it was about to strike, two more sonic booms echoed through the air, and this time, Osa finally saw what was causing them. Just like Jack's flame, this was an arrow made from wind. If Osa wasn't paying close attention, he wouldn't have seen it, and it's too fast and difficult to evade. The arrow struck true, piercing inside of the Bat King's upper jaws all the way to its brain and out of the back of its head, staggering back a little and letting out its final roar. The Bat King finally fell down and became still after writhing a little. It cannot be any more dead than it is now. Though what happened might take a while to explain, in actuality, it happened only in a second.

"Osa, what j-just happened?" Jack stammered in shock. Osa didn't even pay heed to Jack's question. Instead, his focus was on the place where the mysterious person who killed the Bat King was. After shooting those three arrows, the person mysteriously disappeared, but the person also has this familiar aura around him. "Why does this person feel so familiar?" thought Osa. "It's that dude I fought with at the Grey Brothel." Dean's voice echoed in Osa's mind. It finally clicked in Osa's head after hearing Dean, but he was also left confused about it and couldn't resist asking. "Why did he help me? Thought we were enemies, and beside, shouldn't he be looking for ways to kill us?"

"Easy kid, you're wrong when you said he should be trying to kill us because we're not enemies to him, and the same can also be turned around. What actually happened that day was me testing him, and him, I guess being a battle maniac, also responded, which leads to that battle. So, he is quite the grateful one, not the other way round." Dean said with a sigh. "I think you should be worried about people underground." "Holy s**t!" Osa exclaimed and zoomed off towards the direction of Milly's Orphanage. Right now, he is quite close to the south border. This battle initially started at the north district city gate, but now, after the battle, he has somehow ended up at the border of the north district. Just a few meters are separating him from the southern border. Osa could even vaguely hear the sound of explosions coming from the southern district.

While running towards the place where Milly's Orphanage was once located, Osa focused on his hearing to see if he couldn't hear any sign of John and the staff underground. Dispirited because he didn't find any trace of them, he could only run towards the orphanage ruins. When Osa got there, he found out that the tunnel entrance had been covered by debris. However, with his great strength, clearing the entrance was not a problem. After doing it, he entered the tunnel while calling out John's name, but he received no answer. In fact, all he could hear was his voice. Osa started having this sick feeling that maybe something bad might have happened to them. That's when he caught an unpleasant smell from the tunnel. At first, even with his sensitive nose, he could barely get a whiff of it, but as he proceeds into the tunnel, the smell became stronger. It finally got to a stage where even regular humans could even perceive it. The more Osa proceeds into the tunnel, the more the sick feeling in his stomach grew. Finally, Osa was overcome with the feeling of dread that he unknowingly began sweating, and his legs became wobbly.

Finally, Osa could no longer hold it and asked, "Dean, what's going on?" "Am not sure," Dean replied. "This tunnel seems a bit strange. It has remains of ancient Vion technology." "Remains of ancient Vion technology? How?" the confused Osa asked. Dean honestly can't remember much about this ancient Vion technology. Perhaps if he was in good health, he would be able to not only remember it but even make it himself. But the problem is that he is just in his soul form. Though his soul origin is perfectly intact, but his soul force has not recovered to one hundred percent. All he can do is to use his spiritual sense and see if he can trace the origin of the Vion technology. But because of the situation with the Gods, it's quite a risky move because they can use it to trace him. Weighing the risk and benefits, Dean decided to give it a shot. "Kid, am going to investigate the origin of this Vion technology

"Kid, am going to investigate the origin of this Vion technology and see if I can find anything useful or the reason it was made here and its purpose." "Okay, Osa answered, but please be fast about it, I.... can't hold on anymore." Osa said with gritted teeth. A formless wave of spiritual energy was emitted out of Osa's forehead, it moved towards the wall of the tunnel, and as if it had fused with it, it disappeared into the tunnel wall. Osa became reassured with Dean investigating the tunnel, he decided to keep searching for John and the orphanage staff and kids. But the moment he took a step, as if being stared at by a predator, Osa was overcome with the feeling of dread. It was as if the owner of the gaze wanted to eliminate him; they just needed a thought to do so. In all of Osa's life, he had never been this afraid before, even back then when he was almost killed by Mr. Aaron, he was not as terrified as this. It takes just his will to keep standing and not start screaming and crying for help already. At the same time, Dean's voice echoed in his head, "Found it."
