Chapter 9 - The Weapons Store (1)

Who says I was going to let those men go just like that? I am a man of my words, yeah! But that didn't mean I won't leave them with something to always remember me. It was essential to leave them with something so that they wouldn't forget our encounter, even after many years.

I tied them together with the bed sheet and then left for my daily morning task as it was nearing 5:00 Am, after I was done with it which took me only an hour to complete, I made sure to collect the information I needed before doing anything to them.

According to what they said, their boss is the daughter of the old lady. She found out that her mother gave hundred gold coins to me and got mad, but what I don't understand is why she would send a whole four men just to steal it back.

Whatever the reason, I think I don't care. Besides, I've already sent my message across to her through those men. Before I left the inn, I made sure to cut each one of their middle fingers and then wrapped it up. I'm sure that by now, she must have gotten my message because I let the men go as negotiated.

"Jeez! I'm really tired right now," I mumbled as I walked through the road of the town. It was in the early hours of the morning but the road was already busy and stores were already open and selling.

I looked ahead and noticed a particular good-looking store. This store unlike the rest had no customers, it looked so old and tacky, even older than Madame Lene's own. But despite how it looked, something was telling me to go there, I felt curious and wanted to take a look and so I made my way towards it.

Upon getting to the store, I saw an old man sitting inside, mumbling to no one in particular.

"Kid, why are you here?" He asked the moment he saw me.

"I see you are selling weapons, may I have a look at what you have?" I asked, taking a peep inside.

The old man chuckled and then looked at me, "Kid, for some years now, I haven't gotten a single customer. Why then did you come? Are there not other weapon stores, why didn't you go there?"

'This man sure knows how to ask questions ' I said inwardly. Isn't he happy to at least see someone who wants to buy from him?

"I might have seen other stores but this is where I want, you should be glad to have a customer," I replied, earning a sigh from him.

"Kid, there is nothing good in here except for old useless swords and other weapons that are useless. Do you still want to come in?" He said and asked after a while.

Without waiting for a second, I replied. "Of course!"

Seeing that I was eager to go in, the man sighed again in frustration. "Fine, but don't say I didn't warn you!"

The man then led me inside his store, following a door. The moment I walked inside, I felt very strong energy within the dark room. The man lit the lamps and began to show me around the place.

"See, I told you, there is nothing special in this place. Just some old weapons that are completely useless," he mumbled as he pointed to some weapons.

I didn't care about what he was saying as I had my mind fixed on the strong energy, I noticed that the energy began to drop until it was faint. It seemed like whatever that is, it just didn't want me to find it.

Nevertheless, I was going to find it no matter how many hours I'll spend.

"Hey! The old man called us useless again!" I suddenly heard a feminine voice mumble within the room.

I glanced at the man and with how calm he was, I was certain that he didn't hear the voice. So that means, I am the only one hearing it.

"This is how he drives away people that want to buy us!" Another feminine voice said.

So this was it, the man didn't have any customers for the past years, not because of anything but his own doing. 'Does he not know that the swords here are good or is he purposely doing so?' So many thoughts were running through my head.

"Kid, I told you that you wouldn't find anything useful here, go somewhere else and find what you are looking for," the man suddenly said.

"Look! He is about to chase our buyer like he always did!" The feminine voice yelled.

"Sir, I am not leaving just yet, not until I find what I'm looking for," I calmly replied. I noticed him glaring at me and when I turned to look at him, he quickly looked away.

'He seems to be cautious of something' I inwardly thought. I've read about soul weapons and how they work in books, but to think that I would meet them today is...

"That kid is odd!" One of the weapons said in a low tune. I looked ahead following where the voice was coming from and noticed that the faint energy was coming from that place.

I began to walk towards the place but just then, the man rushed and blocked my way. I frowned and looked at him, our eyes met and when they did, I sensed a hostile look in his eyes.

"Kid, you should stop searching, there is nothing good here," the man calmly said. The hostility I noticed from him was long gone as he no longer had a frown on his face.

"Allow me to search over there, if I don't see anything useful, I'll leave but if I see one, I'll take it!" I replied to the man and made to walk past him.

The old man suddenly pulled out a sword and pointed it at me. "And what if I don't?"
