I got to the park in the town and boarded a bus that would be taking me to the city. After checking out the list of cities in Alenia, I decided to go to Silver city — a central town, where the popular Elite Mage Academy is located. That is the only place I have in mind as it would be much easier for me to enrol into the Academy.
Soon the bus was filled and it took off immediately, I looked through the window, inwardly saying goodbye to everything in the town. It pained me so much that I was leaving my place of birth but I couldn't blame anyone for it, it was fate, I guess.
The people on the bus could not stop talking about what happened in my town, so many events were discussed, the ones true and the ones false. I glanced at them for a while, not able to find any word suitable for them, I inwardly hissed and looked away.
The journey to Silver City was four hours long, two hours has now passed and we still got two more hours to go. I was already getting tired of sitting down, I couldn't wait to get to the City and explore the entire place.
"Guys, I heard that there is this new organization that was created recently by Matt," I heard one of the passengers say to his group of friends. At first, I wanted to brush it off but then I felt the need to listen more and so I opened my ears and focused them on the discussion.
"Matt? You mean the...?"
"Yes! Matthew Liam, the only son of the Liam's household."
"Aren't they the famous Ice family? They are known for their special Ice magic. What organization did he create?"
"I heard it's an organisation for hunters. According to the news, anyone who is skilled in hunting down demons and monsters could be employed. Not just anyone, those highly skilled and strong."
"Hmmph! That young man is always trying to show off his power and influence on poor people like us. I do not like him even for a bit."
"True that he's got pride and lacks manners but man, he's generous when it comes to rewards. I might as well go try my luck and see if I can be employed as one of the hunters."
"Good luck with that but I am least interested in him!"
When they were done talking, I made a mental note of all that they had said. I needed the job so I was going to get it. First, I'll need to settle down in the city and then search for who the said Matthew Liam is before any other thing.
During the ride, we got to a particular place. The place was filled with thick bushes and tall canopies of trees which made it look dark, so dark that the light from the sky could not be seen. At the sight of this, the people on the bus began to murmur nonstop, I was also beginning to feel unsettled about the place.
From their complaints, I found out that the driver didn't take the main route rather he took this one for some reasons no one knew. Even after asking him why he took this route, nobody was able to understand what he was saying.
While they were still complaining, the bus suddenly came to a stop in the middle of the place. Where we currently are was far denser than the places we passed. Soon, I began to hear noises from every corner and when I looked outside, I was shocked to see a few demon rogues approaching us.
"This is going to be fucked up, can't I even rest for once!" I mumbled with a frown on my face. No one was able to see them just yet and it made me wonder why I was able to see them even from a far distance. I also didn't want to get myself involved and then make myself known to everyone so I pretended like I didn't see anything and waited until they will begin to see them.
"Demons!" I heard someone scream and when I looked out of the window, they were already closer to us.
"Demons? What should we do? I don't wanna die here!" Another person cried as he looked outside of the window.
While everyone was still in turmoil, the driver came down from the bus and joined the other demon rogues, commanding them to attack the bus.
"So this is why he brought us here? To turn us to be food for these crazy bunch of monsters!" I mumbled with a clenched fist. I wasn't the only one upset, even the other passengers were shocked and angry, some began to curse him already, crying as they threw curses at him.
"This is no time to cry and shout, we have to do something or they'll eat us all! I am not going to die here!" The man that had spoken about Matt Liam yelled as he drew out his sword from his scabbard.
"What are you trying to do?" One of his friends asked with wide eyes as he saw the man leaving the bus.
"To kill them of course! I can't sit down and watch us die like chickens," the man said to his anxious friend.
"To kill what? Stop acting like a hero and come and sit down! Do you want to get yourself killed?" His friend who was now seriously scared yelled.
"I'd rather die trying to fight them than sit down and just do nothing!" The man yelled and left the bus.
"James!" His friend called but the man was already outside of the bus.
I watched as the man marched to the group of demons and stood before them, grasping his sword tightly. He looked scared from what I noticed even though he wasn't backing away, I kinda like his resolve but what he is about to do will be pointless as he'll soon be dying any moment from now, then, all his hard work will be in vain because not only will he die, his friends and everyone on this bus will die too, well, except me.
As much as I didn't want to help any of them as it was unnecessary, I had no other choice but to do it. I stood up from where I was sitting and walked out of the bus under the watchful gaze of all the passengers.
"What is that kid doing?"
"Trying to kill himself like the other foolish man of course!"
I heard those comments behind my back and clicked my tongue, ignorant and ungrateful fools, this is why I didn't want to help them at first. If not for the fact that I need someone who'll drive me to where I was going, I wouldn't mind leaving them to die like chickens!
