Chapter 35 - Druin ships

The ship tore through the space leaving behind a sphere of colours and shapes that looked impossible, moving and changing every second, until a second later it closed and the space returned to normal as if nothing had ever happened.

The sleek ship glided through this space of impossible colours and shapes effortlessly. The shapes would meld into one another before shifting, deforming and breaking apart again.

Shapes bounced off the ship and colours collided with one another. There was no concept of space in this space, the colours unavoidable and already crashing into them, the space moving and now it was an impossible place no longer bound by classical laws of the universe; this in between was named as such and was what naturally occurred when two points in space were intercepted.

It was unknown why this happened or what would happen if this space did not exist. Would the universe give as its laws were broken, would the wormhole continue to expand until it meets the point in space it was connected to, looping in on itself or would this not happen at all?.

On board this impossible ship in this impossible space was a man draped in dark blue armour. His face matching the colour of his armour, he knew not what time he had spent in this space but he was sick of it, literally.

Seth bent over his face turning from blue to pale as he vomited into the toilet.

"Hehehe, what is this here? Cannot handle a little bit of reality crumbling" jerred Mongel as he watched Seth vomit.

"How can you? There is no ground but clearly ground, no gravity yet I can still walk. The ship feels like it is rotating. I hate this place Mongrel as he did his best impression of a drunk man's walk.

"Fuck off, I have been drunk but this is not that" "Ya are hurrling ya guts up into a toilet, looking like being drunk to me" replied Mongrel with a smile.

Suddenly, the ship lurched, and the spinning stopped, the ground no longer moved like it was alive, and the ship returned to normal and Seth felt his stomach settle even if it was only a little.

'Time of jump, 0.002 seconds'

"Fuck me, how we had a whole conversation" said Seth as he hunkered back over the bowl.

"No space, no time I guess must be counting the time the ship took to go into the space and out" "What? If time does not exist how do we know we will not be in there forever?" "It would only feel like forever, we wouldn't age" replied Mongrel with a smile.

"You know that is not what I meant"

"Yea, yea. I know ya meant what would happen if we spent enough time to go mad in that place" "Yes exactly" "They know these things, they would not send us though without some kind of guarantee" "Fuck that place just feels so weird" "It is a place that shouldn't exist by all conventional knowledge. If we did not have the Hareana backing us this technology would have taken us centuries or longer to figure out"

"How would we have won this war if we did not have their backing" "Shhhhhhhhhhh" said Mongrel, grabbing Seth by the collar and closing the bathroom door "Ya never know who is listening, don't say anything about what would be happening if we did not have

the backers okay" "Okay man, chill. This is not like you" replied Seth wiping his mouth.

"I know man but seriously it is not something to say, people go missing for less" replied Mongrel his eyes wide, darting around the room looking for invisible eyes.

"are you sure that place did not mess you up man you are not acting like your self"

Mongrel looked at his hands, they seemed to move, to twist, still, his mind moved from one extreme to another. He could not hold a steady thought in between the two. All he knew is that he was not safe, they were not safe. As fast as this feeling came it disappeared and he returned to normal.

"Sorry Seth, I am unsure why I said that" "What happened to you Mongrel?" "I think my mind got twisted like the colours and shapes of that space" "We need to get you checked out" "No, we need to finish this mission, ya cannot do it without me. I am not letting them pull me off this mission" "But what if you snap out there?" replied Seth looking at his friend who still could not raise his head.

"I'll be fine, I promise" replied Mongrel as he finally lifted his head and smiled.

'Seth and Mongrel to the bridge' said a voice over the intercom.

Seth looked at Mongrel who was looking down at his hands before he ushered him to the bridge.

When they got there a man was waiting for them. He was tall and skinny, he looked tired, his eyes sunk into his skull.

"was that your first jump?" asked the captain

"It was mine, how did you know" replied Seth

"Your eyes say it all, you are still questioning if that wall will rearrange itself. Looks like your friend got the worst of it" replied the captain as he looked at Mongrel with a strange look on his face.

"He is fine just a little shaken up" "I'll have the doc look at him before I send you two off, more than likely he is just questioning himself, it's what happens you know, either someone questions reality around themself or themself, like your friend here. Just like how it will pass for you it will as well pass for your friend" Seth was relieved, he would not have to break Mongrels trust but he would also get the answers he needed. He looked around the ship and noticed on the display in front of him was a location in red and a flock of ships around.

The ships were moving in a choreographed way as they flew through space. As Seth looked at the ships he wondered how he was to infiltrate the formation and kill the most well protected man on the most well protected ship in space.
