A faint sound of couching could be heard echoing throughout the halls along the walls, the ground, and the ceiling. The sound seemed to continue, stretching from all sides of the ship.
Seth and Mongrel peered out of the maintenance room they were in, the halls that greeted them were empty, devoid of Druin for as far as they could see.
"Are there patrols?" asked Mongrel.
"I don't know"
"How can ya not know. What if we run into one?"
"Then we run into one"
"What don't ya say that we will now, plus shouldn't ya have basic info on a place like this"
"And where, do tell should I find such information on the most secure ship in Druin space?" Seth said as he crossed his arms, his black visor made it impossible for Mongrel to tell what he was doing but he knew he was smirking.
"I don't know but are we not fucked if they raise the alarm?"
"Yea we are, so kill them before they raise the alarm"
"oooh, great plan genius. With a few more like that we will win the war" replied Mongrel as he rolled his eyes.
Seth moved past Mongrel and towards the elders room.
"Keep up" he said before he pushed on even more.
"ahhh fine" mumbled Mongrel before he followed Seth, moving exactly where he did, stepping were he did and ducking were he did.
The two of them moved in perfect sync, when coming to a turn Seth stopped short.
Holding his hand to his side, a gesture that was nothing new Mongrel knew exactly what to do without the signal.
They waited and waited, growing more anxious as the time drew on 5 minutes then 10 and they still had not moved.
Mongrel was unsure if they would stay hidden here.
The guards could come around the corner at any second, they would be spotted and their mission would be failed but Seth continued to not move.
Slowly Mongrel had began to hear what Seth had been hearing all this time. The slow rhythmic sounds of steps moving towards him.
The Druin coming towards their corner, their steps measured and heavy.
Seth's hand began to move, the symbols his fingers made Mongrel read in his mind. Two enemies, 10 seconds, large.
Mongrel was not sure of if Seth knew more about the danger that was coming towards him or not but he had to trust him not matter what, so he readied himself for the attack.
Mongrel and Seth readied their weapons, the sounds of footsteps echoing closer and closer to them. The sound went to the right before the corner and Seth struck early. He moved under and over into the hallway, slicing from right to left. When he had finished his move, Mongrel followed half a second later, making his attack. Knives stabbed into the Druin's throat, Mongrels adrenaline pumping allowed him to sever the head of the Druin before him.
Seth managed to cut the head off the other Druin as well, he then hurried to hold the body.
The weight dragged him downwards as he grimaced but he got his footing again before he fell.
"Fuck this one is heavy"
"hahah I thought they were gunners, at least by how heavy their footsteps were but they are just fat" laughed Mongrel. He had prepared himself for a fight where he may have died, he struck with so much force to hopefully take out the wind pipes so he could with without them raising alarm but glee shone on his face now looking at the dead Druin before him.
"Don't be too happy, we still need to hide the bodies" said Seth as he carefully watched Mongrel's expression.
"Where do we hide them?" said Mongrel looking down the pristine halls with barely a closet.
"Up ahead there is a spot we can dump them" replied Seth as he put his Sabre away, grimacing each time his Sabre made too much of a noise as if that single sound would penetrate though the whole ship.
The final part of the ship opened up, the halls growing grander and grander with each passing step. The halls slowly transitioning from metal to carpet and soft finishes that welcomed those who stepped towards them.
The dark red becoming more vibrant, the gold trim widened around the doors becoming more luxurious and ornate.
Even further in the trim had symbols imbedded into the gold and further along the trim could no longer be called as such as it had merged and now a large wall of gold with intricate scenes laid before Seth and Mongrels eyes.
"What is this?" asked Mongrel, his mouth agape in wonder.
"I don't know. The scenes almost depict something mythological" replied Seth as he allowed his eyes to follow the scene.
His eyes grew wider in shock as he followed what was happening, the scene was one of their race being freed. A radiant figure among shacked Druin in the next panel, a flood of light came from the figure and the shackles broke, the last panel was of the fungi and the Druin, broken shackles hanging from their arms as they huddled around it.
"This... What is this?"
"I think it is the start of their civilization, a myth they tell one another" replied Seth as his fingers gently caressed the surface of the gold, the slight indentations imperceivable to his gloved hands.
He looked on in wonder "It was carved so shallow yet shows so vividly. I wonder how they did it" stated Seth as he peered closer before Mongrel's hand on his shoulder broke him from his trance.
"Seth please let us keep moving we need to finish this now" begged Mongrel, his voice oozing with the barely contained stress he was feeling.
Seth stole one last glace at the golden panels before he moved on his gauntlet, having ample time to capture and image of the panels.
'I will study this later' he said to himself as Mongrel made them move slowly, carefully not a step out of place.
"Fuck, I cannot hear anything on this floor. I don't know who is coming around the corner" Mongrel groaned as he peered around the corner, weapon at the ready.
What greeted his eyes was a massive door, golden and red joining at a point in the top. Two guards stood either side of the door waiting, their eyes vigilant and sharp.
