Chapter 1 - Prologue

"Doryaaaaaah!"

"Teeeyaaaaah!"

On the ground of Beerus' world, there were two figures duking it out—one in an orange gi—and the other in Saiyan battle armor.

It was Goku and Vegeta.

Both of their fists collided, splitting the silence before Goku vanished. A moment later, the air folded in on itself from behind Vegeta as Goku threw a punch, causing the Saiyan Prince to twist aside, barely evading the blow.

"Tch!"

Despite his efforts, Goku's fist grazed past his cheek close enough to ripple his skin.

"Too slow, Vegeta!" Goku grinned, already pivoting midair as his leg snapped toward Vegeta's ribs, though the prince caught it.

His gloved hand clamped around Goku's ankle as his boots slid against the ground beneath him, absorbing the force.

His eyes narrowed, visibly irritated at his smack talk.

"Looks like I got you instead, Kakarot!" He yanked the saiyan forward to deliver a devastating blow to the face, though Goku managed to twist his body in midair, driving his other heel toward Vegeta's shoulder.

The impact landed hard enough to shake the ground, shattering the sound barrier.

Vegeta slid back, carving his boots into the ground before kicking off, launching himself forward again without hesitation.

"Gyaaaaaaaah!" Vegeta screamed, cocking his fist back.

"Hyeaaaaaaaah!" Goku did the same, matching his pace.

They collided again in a blur as their fists clashed—now throwing a fury of blows; vanishing, dodging, feinting one another in a match of skill and technique.

Both of their elbows slipped through guards as their knees struck air where bodies had already moved.

Every exchange was equally matched and predicted, but still wild in that way only they could be, just like Saiyans.

Goku laughed under his breath as he ducked under a straight punch, placing his hand on the ground for balance before he sprang upward with an uppercut.

Vegeta tilted his head just enough for it to graze past his chin before he countered with a brutal knee aimed for Goku's chest.

It managed to land, shooting Goku backwards, skidding him across the ground before flipping upright, holding his stomach in pain.

"Ow ow, owww! That one really hurts!"

"Hmph." Vegeta, standing in his signature stance, grinned at his comrade. "Serves you right."

"Alright then, Vegeta, let's step it up a notch. Whaddya say?"

Vegeta, furrowing his brows, kept his cocky grin.

"By all means."

They stared at one another in silence as both of them curled their elbows at their side, flaring up their ki—and all of a sudden—a burst of blue exploded around them.

A calm, godlike aura wrapped right around their bodies like blue flames.

It was Super Saiyan Blue; a form achieved by combining Super Saiyan with the power and godly ki of a Super Saiyan God.

Then, out of nowhere, both of them disappeared. Shockwaves immediately tore across the sky as they clashed above the planet with their movements being too fast to follow, marked only by bursts of light and the thunder of impact.

A punch from Goku split the clouds.

Vegeta answered with a kick that sent Goku crashing downward like a meteor.

Goku caught himself mid-fall, skidding across the surface before vanishing again and reappearing behind Vegeta with a palm strike already forming. "Got you!" He yelled.

Vegeta smirked, and without turning around, he raised his hand behind him, firing a point-blank ki blast.

The explosion swallowed Goku whole as smoke rolled outward in a wave, but it didn't last long before the Saiyan burst through it, darting toward Vegeta again—faster this time—forcing the prince back with a relentless chain of strikes.

"Dadadadadadaaaa!"

"Tsk…!" Vegeta turned around, holding up his guard as he dodged most of the jabs to his face, even blocking some of them. But most importantly, he analyzed Kakarot, seeking an opening. "Don't get cocky!"

Vegeta, finding a sliver of weakness, broke through Goku's chain of punches, fisting him right in the gut.

"Gooooaaaahhh!"

A breathless groan escaped Son Goku's mouth as he was launched forward, twisting uncontrollably midair, but Vegeta followed up, vanishing behind him and raising both hands in the air like a sledgehammer.

"Haaaaaaah!"

Slamming his fists down like a hammer, Goku suddenly disappeared in midair, catching Vegeta off guard, which made his motion carry him forward in a small barrel roll.

"Wide open!" Goku, using Instant Transmission, reappeared behind the Prince, throwing a roundhouse kick into his head with a deafening sonic boom.

Vegeta braced himself for impact as he was launched downward—slamming into the surface of the planet in a massive dust cloud.

"Mmmmm~!" Standing off on the sidelines, holding a cup of tea, was none other than Whis. He sniffed the beverage aroma, closing his eyes in delight before taking a sip. "My, this coffee that Bulma gave us is just delightful! I mean truly, this is the definition of exquisite!"

"HRRRAAAAAH!!"

All of a sudden, a pillar of blue light erupted from within the smoke, dissipating it to reveal Vegeta's aura flaring violently, and his hands placed together with the palm of one hand on the back of the other.

"Galick Gun!!!"

Thrusting both hands upwards, he launched a powerful blast of purple energy, illuminating the sky in its brilliant color.

Goku, now furrowing his brows, cupped both hands at his side. A sphere of condensed blue ki formed instantly in his palm until he launched it forward, matching Vegeta's own powerful blast.

"Kamehameha!!!"

Both waves of energy collided, sending sparks of electricity spiraling through the air as powerful shockwaves emanated from their beam struggle.

"Ghhnnnn… hyaaaaaahhhhh!" Vegeta discharged more ki into his energy blast, pushing back the blue wave of energy.

"Hghhnnnn… gyaaaaahhhhhhh!" Goku responded in kind, matching Vegeta's own battle power until their energy attacks were forced into a stalemate.

Eventually, both beams of energy canceled each other out in a violent explosion, engulfing the two of them in a smoke cloud.

"Nice work." Said Whis with a proud smile. "You two have gotten much stronger since your last fight. I'm impressed."

As the cloud of smoke disappeared, it revealed both Goku and Vegeta in their base forms, exhausted.

"Whew! Man, I'm beat. That last attack drained all the energy I had right outta me!"

"Hmph." Vegeta scoffed, crossing his arms. "If there's anything we learned from this battle, it's that we're equals. Nothing has changed."

Goku, slowly descending to the ground, placed both hands on his hip, approaching Vegeta with a smile.

"Hey, what's the harm in that?! It's better to be equals so we can train together and get much stronger!"

Vegeta averted his gaze, now turning to face the other way.

"My goal is to surpass you, Kakarot, once and for all. Staying as equals will only hold me back." Closing his eyes, he frowned.

"Now now, Vegeta! You've surpassed Goku in ways that others could only dream of." Said Whis, sipping on his cup of coffee.

Vegeta, opening his eyes, gazed at the angel attendant.

"Oh, is that so?"

"Mmm." Whis nodded. "Even though Goku has achieved Ultra Instinct, he cannot activate it willingly. And thus, he still tends to let his guard down as often."

"Huhhh?" Goku widened his eyes, turning to face Whis. "I-I uhhh…!" Before he could get another word out, Whis moved faster than the eye could see, punching Goku right in the liver.

"Hoooughh!" Wincing his eye, he bucked to the side, falling to his knees. "H-Hey, that seriously hurts! What was that for?"

"I'm proving a point." Said Whis, still holding his cup of coffee. "If you truly want to master Ultra Instinct, Goku, you will have to keep its underlying qualities, even in your Super Saiyan states. That way, you can use it to its fullest potential once you actually awaken its transformation."

Vegeta, with his arms crossed, stared at them both.

"So, you're saying Kakarot is just an idiot?"

"Hey! That's not cool Vegeta, you have your own problems too!"

"Why yes, we all have our problems. Many, many problems indeed, Son Goku."

All of a sudden, a foreign voice echoed across the planet, capturing everyone's attention.

"Who the hell was that?" Said Vegeta, gazing at the sky.

Goku suddenly furrowed his brows, looking up above them with a frown.

Both of them could sense a powerful energy coming their way—and it started with a massive, dark portal opening above their heads; revealing a humanoid figure with a black, smoky outward appearance with two red eyes.

"I've finally found you two."
