Reinforcing his physical vessel with cursed energy, absorbing the kinetic force of the optic blast with his Level 3 Energy Absorption, and simultaneously utilizing the Reverse Cursed Technique to instantaneously repair any micro-cellular damage to his palm.
Through this intricate layering of absolute defense and regeneration, Su Mu was able to effortlessly catch a concentrated laser beam—capable of instantly melting through solid steel—with his bare flesh!
The system notifications continuously chimed in his mind like a symphony of power:
[System Notification: Energy Point +1]
[System Notification: Energy Absorption EXP +1]
[System Notification: Limitless EXP +1]
Compared to Energy Absorption, which had already reached Level 3 and required significantly more experience to level up, the Level 2 Limitless was climbing at a blistering pace. It was already hovering right on the edge of a breakthrough!
Having caught Cyclops' maximum output with one hand, Su Mu casual took another step forward.
The spatial pressure instantly skyrocketed! The localized gravitational repulsion generated by Cursed Technique Reversal: Red violently expanded, sweeping outward for hundreds of meters! The asphalt, streetlamps, and surrounding storefronts were effortlessly pulverized and collapsed under the crushing wave of absolute force!
Everything in his path was reduced to dust with a single, leisurely step!
Faced with the suddenly magnified spatial pressure, even the combined efforts of Storm's hurricane winds and Jean Grey's telekinetic shielding couldn't withstand the force.
The X-Men were violently blown backward. Even with Jean's telekinesis acting as a buffer, they tumbled across the shattered street, suffering numerous lacerations and bruises from the supersonic debris.
Clack. Clack. Clack.
The unhurried, rhythmic sound of footsteps echoed through the dust. The terrifying White Demon hadn't stopped walking.
The X-Men scrambled to re-establish their defensive perimeter, but the encroaching spatial pressure instantly pushed Jean and Storm to their absolute physical and mental breaking points!
The invisible weight crushing them felt like it would shatter their hastily erected shields in the very next second, pulverizing them into absolute nothingness under an unstoppable cosmic force!
Cyclops struggled to his feet. Ignoring the agonizing pain wracking his battered body, he unleashed every ounce of power he possessed, firing a blinding, maximum-yield optic blast directly at the approaching White Demon!
Beside him, Storm mirrored his desperation. Levitating on localized wind currents, she summoned the full fury of the atmosphere, calling down massive, deafening pillars of lightning to strike the white-haired boy!
But facing an onslaught vastly more powerful than the first, the White Demon—who had just blocked the previous laser with his bare hand—didn't even raise his arm to defend himself. He simply flashed them a brilliant, arrogant smile.
Because just a microsecond prior, the heavenly chimes of the System had echoed in his mind once again:
[System Notification: Limitless EXP +1]
[System Notification: Congratulations, Skill 'Limitless' has leveled up!]
[Limitless Lv.3 (1/1000): Interferes with matter at the atomic level to manipulate space. The closer an object gets to the user, the slower it becomes, making it impossible to ever touch the user. Grants an expanded absolute defense perimeter and automated conceptual filtering.]
The blinding lightning bolts and the searing red optic blast abruptly froze in mid-air right as they were about to strike Su Mu!
The intense laser beam that had previously managed to slowly, agonizingly push through his Level 2 barrier was now completely, utterly halted. Worse yet, the kinetic energy of the beam was being violently expelled backward at an even faster rate!
In the fraction of a second the Limitless leveled up, a profound wave of spatial comprehension flooded Su Mu's mind. The effective range of his absolute defense rapidly expanded outward. From ten centimeters, to twenty, to thirty... until it finally settled at an absolute, impenetrable perimeter exactly fifty centimeters from his physical body!
Compared to Level 2, the protective radius of the Limitless had quintupled! And more importantly, the automated conceptual filtering was now powerful enough to effortlessly block concentrated, massless energy attacks like lasers!
The X-Men were now entirely incapable of threatening him in the slightest.
Witnessing this impossibility, Cyclops was dumbfounded.
"What just happened?! Why are my blasts completely useless now?!"
Just seconds ago, his optic blast was at least capable of reaching the boy's hand and forcing him to actively defend. But now? It couldn't even breach his outer perimeter!
Professor X answered Cyclops' frantic question, his voice trembling with profound dread.
"The White Demon's defensive capabilities just experienced a qualitative leap. He is now completely ignoring your optic blasts...
"My worst fears were right. His power truly is evolving continuously as time passes!"
Realizing this terrifying truth, Professor X knew with absolute certainty that they stood absolutely no chance against the White Demon in a direct confrontation. If they ever hoped to guide him down the right path, they needed a completely different, long-term strategy.
"My child, please! Stop!" Charles pleaded, his voice broadcasting telepathically and verbally. "We harbor no ill will toward you!"
But the White Demon's footsteps didn't falter. He didn't show the slightest intention of stopping.
Under the suffocating spatial pressure, Jean Grey, who was bearing the brunt of the defense, was violently trembling. She was bleeding from dozens of micro-lacerations across her body. It looked as if she would completely collapse under the crushing force at any moment.
More terrifyingly, the flickering, fiery crimson glow deep within her eyes was becoming overwhelmingly prominent, as if it were about to violently erupt!
Seeing this, Professor X panicked. If Jean lost control now, the resulting clash between the Dark Phoenix and the White Demon wouldn't just destroy the street—it would likely vaporize the entirety of New York City!
While desperately trying to reinforce the psychic barriers holding the Phoenix back, Charles pleaded with the approaching demon.
"Child! We mean you no harm! If our presence offends you, we will leave immediately!"
But the footsteps continued.
By now, Cyclops and Storm had also noticed the horrific changes occurring in Jean. Staring at the relentlessly advancing White Demon, and then at the Professor, who was visibly failing to suppress the Phoenix, absolute despair washed over them.
They didn't know who would win between the Dark Phoenix and the White Demon, but they knew one thing for sure: they were all going to die, and New York was going to be wiped off the map!
They had only intended to recruit the White Demon to Xavier's School, yet their arrogance had just triggered a localized apocalypse. They were drowning in regret, but the disaster was imminent. Nothing could stop it now.
They absolutely did not believe that a ruthless, remorseless killer like the White Demon would suddenly show them mercy!
But just as they braced themselves for death, waiting for the Dark Phoenix to fully awaken and engage the demon in a world-ending clash... they realized the White Demon had stopped!
Exactly at the absolute breaking point, milliseconds before Jean lost control, the White Demon halted his advance.
The terrifying spatial pressure vanished instantly. The White Demon stood completely still, staring at them with chilling, crystalline blue eyes. The suffocating aura of death wrapped around the X-Men, making it impossible for them to even breathe.
The oppressive, suffocating silence dragged on for what felt like an eternity.
Suddenly, the White Demon moved. The X-Men instantly flinched, bracing for a catastrophic attack!
But the scene that unfolded left them completely baffled.
The White Demon, who had just been a hair's breadth away from slaughtering them all, simply took a single, casual step and vanished into thin air, leaving absolutely no trace behind.
"This..."
The sudden, inexplicable lifting of the crisis left the X-Men deeply confused. The White Demon was fully prepared to kill them, so why did he suddenly leave?
"Could... could the Professor have actually gotten through to him?" Storm asked, her voice entirely devoid of confidence.
Professor X, his face drenched in a cold sweat, exhaled heavily. He had finally managed to drag Jean back from the precipice of absolute destruction. Hearing Storm's question, he shook his head grimly.
"It's possible, but the probability is practically zero. I lean toward a much more terrifying hypothesis. The White Demon possesses some form of extreme danger intuition, or perhaps even genuine precognition.
"He sensed that pushing Jean any further would unleash a catastrophic force. He recognized the threat the Phoenix posed, and chose to leave rather than risk a mutually destructive battle."
Hearing the Professor's hypothesis, Storm and Cyclops—aside from Jean, who had passed out from exhaustion—reviewed the details of the encounter. They realized the Professor's theory was overwhelmingly the most logical explanation.
"Did he awaken another mutant power? Or did he have precognition from the very beginning, and just now chose to display it?" Cyclops muttered, utterly bewildered.
He had never even heard of a mutant possessing so many distinct, god-tier abilities simultaneously!
