Episode 15: Heart of Darkness
The air was heavy.
The fog no longer moved—it watched.
Marcus stood still, his sword trembling in his hand.
Before him… stood the guardian of the forest.
It was massive.
Its body was made of shadows twisting like snakes.
Its eyes burned red like fire in the night.
Every breath Marcus took felt like it was being stolen from him.
"Elara…" he whispered, fear creeping into his voice.
"This thing… it's not like the others."
Elara nodded slowly. Her face was serious.
"This is the forest's will… its heart… its anger.
If we fall here… we never leave."
The guardian let out a deep, terrifying roar.
The ground cracked. The fog exploded outward.
Then—
it attacked.
Marcus jumped back just in time as a massive shadow arm slammed into the ground, breaking it apart.
He ran forward, shouting, swinging his sword with all his strength—
but the blade barely touched the creature before being swallowed by darkness.
"It's too strong!" Marcus yelled.
The guardian moved faster than something that big should.
It struck again—this time hitting Marcus directly.
He flew across the clearing and crashed into a tree.
"Marcus!" Elara screamed.
Marcus groaned, struggling to stand.
His body hurt. His vision blurred.
The whispers returned… louder than ever.
"You are weak…"
"You cannot win…"
"You will die like the others…"
He covered his ears.
"Stop… STOP!"
But the voices only grew stronger.
He saw visions again—
Hunters dying…
Liam smiling in darkness…
Himself… lying dead in the forest.
"I… I can't do this…" Marcus whispered, falling to his knees.
The guardian slowly walked toward him.
Each step shook the ground.
This was the end.
"GET UP, MARCUS!"
Elara's voice cut through everything.
He looked up.
She stood between him and the monster, her bow glowing faintly.
"You are not alone!" she shouted.
"The forest feeds on fear—but you are stronger than fear!"
Marcus's chest tightened.
Her words… felt real.
"You survived everything!" she continued.
"You fought when you were afraid!
You stood when you were broken!
That is your power!"
Marcus's hands clenched.
Slowly… he stood up.
"I… I am not weak…" he said, voice shaking.
"I am Marcus Vale…"
The guardian roared and charged.
Marcus didn't run this time.
"I SURVIVE!"
He rushed forward.
Elara fired arrows—each one glowing—striking the guardian's body, slowing it down.
Marcus jumped, dodging its attack, and drove his sword forward with everything he had.
This time—
the blade hit something real.
The guardian screamed.
The shadows around it began to break apart.
Marcus pushed harder, shouting, fighting through pain, fear, and exhaustion.
"I WILL NOT FALL!"
With one final strike—
He pierced the center of the creature.
A deafening scream filled the forest.
The guardian exploded into black mist.
The ground went silent.
The fog… slowly faded.
Marcus dropped to his knees, breathing heavily.
His body was shaking, but he was alive.
Elara walked to him, placing her hand gently on his shoulder.
"You did it…" she whispered.
Marcus looked up at the sky—
for the first time, he could see light breaking through the trees.
"We survived…" he said softly.
But then…
The forest whispered again.
Low… cold… and terrifying.
"Hunter… you have only wounded me…"
"The true darkness… is deeper still…"
Marcus's face hardened.
This wasn't over.
Not even close.
