Ashwood was a city that never truly saw the sun.
For centuries it had remained hidden beneath an endless veil of darkness, its ancient streets ruled by creatures that thrived in the night.
Deep inside a massive fortress at the center of the city, the vampire elders had gathered for a meeting.
The chamber they sat in was older than most of the buildings in Ashwood itself. Thick velvet curtains covered the tall windows while a few candles burned quietly around the room, their flickering flames casting long shadows across the walls.
A large wooden table stood at the center of the chamber. Strange carvings of serpents and ancient symbols ran along its edges, reminders of a time long forgotten by the human world.
Around the table sat the vampire elders.
They were beings who had lived for centuries. Their pale faces were calm and unreadable, but their eyes carried the weight of long years and countless wars.
Among them sat Kael.
Unlike some of the other elders, Kael looked almost young. Her dark hair flowed over her shoulders like a curtain of silk, and her green eyes shone sharply in the candlelight.
She sat quietly, listening as the elders spoke.
Their discussion had only one topic.
Humans.
For generations, vampires and humans had lived in silent conflict. While humans continued to build cities and develop new technologies, the vampires watched from the shadows.
Some elders believed the time had come to strike.
Others believed patience was wiser.
Finally, one of the oldest elders turned his gaze toward Kael.
"You will go," he said calmly.
The room grew quiet.
"You will travel to the human city of Amalos. Watch them. Learn their strengths and their weaknesses."
Kael did not hesitate.
She simply nodded.
A small smile touched her lips. Missions like this were exactly what she enjoyed.
Humans believed themselves safe, hidden behind their science and technology.
But they had no idea how closely the darkness watched them.
Kael rose from her seat and walked toward the tall doors of the chamber. As they slowly opened, a rush of cold night air filled the room.
Without another word, she stepped into the shadows outside.
Within seconds, she was gone.
And somewhere far away, in a bright human city full of life and noise, fate was already preparing the next piece of the story.
AMALOS
Unlike Ashwood, the city of Amalos never slept.
Bright lights covered the streets while tall buildings stretched high into the sky. Cars moved through busy roads and people filled the sidewalks, unaware of the ancient war that existed beyond their world.
Inside a research laboratory on the edge of the city, a group of scientists were deep in discussion.
At the center of the group sat Eryndor.
Eryndor was known among his colleagues as both brilliant and stubborn. He had spent years studying the strange virus connected to vampire attacks, hoping to one day understand it well enough to stop it.
The lab conference room was quiet as the team examined the latest reports.
Dr. Rachel Kim looked at the screen in front of her and frowned slightly.
"I don't understand these results," she said softly. "Something strange is happening. The data isn't behaving the way we expected."
Dr. Marcus Thompson leaned back in his chair.
"I noticed the same thing," he said. "There's a pattern in the recent anomalies. Equipment failures… strange readings… unexplained disturbances."
Eryndor leaned forward, studying the information carefully.
"I think we're missing something," he said.
The others looked at him.
"There's a piece of the puzzle we haven't found yet," he continued. "We need to keep looking."
Dr. Gray cleared his throat.
"I've been working late nights," he said slowly. "And I'm telling you… something feels wrong in the lab."
Eryndor frowned.
"What do you mean?"
"Equipment turning off by itself. Strange sounds after midnight. It almost feels like someone is interfering with our research."
"That's impossible," Eryndor replied immediately.
"Our systems are secure."
Dr. Gray shook his head.
"Maybe. But something is definitely happening."
The room fell silent.
Eryndor stared at the data on the screen, his mind racing.
If Dr. Gray was right…
Then they weren't just dealing with scientific errors.
Something else might be involved.
Something none of them had considered.
And at that very moment, far beyond the bright lights of Amalos, a vampire named Kael was already on her way.
