Chapter 8 - V1 Ch6- The Wake up & confrontation...

Chapter 5 – The Wake-Up

Care POV

I woke to the smell of antiseptic and the soft beep of machines.

For a moment, panic hit me. Where… where was I?

Then I felt a hand on mine.

Lyra.

"Care… hey… you're awake," she whispered. Her eyes were shiny with tears, but she smiled softly.

I blinked slowly. "Ly… what happened?"

"You fainted… you scared the hell out of everyone," Lyra said. She leaned closer, brushing hair away from my face. "You scared me the most."

The door opened quietly, and Ash slipped in.

"Don't you ever do that again!" she said softly but firmly, holding my hand. "Do you understand?!"

Cole was behind her, arms crossed, jaw tight, eyes stormy but relieved.

"You idiot," he said bluntly. "Do you have any idea what you put us through?"

I flinched slightly.

"I—I'm sorry," I whispered, my voice trembling.

Ben and Daisy hovered at the side, and even they looked pale.

"I… I didn't mean to…" My voice caught.

Lyra leaned forward, holding my face gently. "Care, listen. You don't have to apologize for being sick. But you also don't get to keep fighting alone. Not anymore."

Cole stepped closer. His gaze was intense.

"You think you're invincible," he said softly but sharply. "You're not. None of us want to see you like that again. You hear me?"

"Yes," I whispered.

"Good," he said, sitting on the edge of my bed. "Because we're not letting you do this alone ever again."

I felt myself breaking a little inside, tears threatening to fall.

Lyra noticed and pulled me into a careful hug.

"I'm here, Care," she said quietly. "You're not alone. Ever. Not again."

I closed my eyes, clinging to her, to the warmth of everyone in the room.

Ash hugged me from the other side. Cole leaned closer. Ben and Daisy came forward cautiously, unsure, but their hands rested briefly on my shoulders.

For the first time in months… maybe years… I let myself feel loved.

Cole POV

Watching her wake up was… terrifying.

That small, fragile girl who seemed untouchable was lying in the hospital bed, eyes barely open, pale as paper.

I felt rage and fear and relief all at once.

When she mumbled "I'm sorry," I couldn't hold back.

"You idiot," I said again. "Do you have any idea what you put us through? Do you?!"

Her voice was small, trembling.

I could feel her guilt, her fear.

I wanted to shake her, scream at her—but also… hold her and never let her go.

Lyra stepped in, and I could see she already understood what Care needed. Soft, firm, reassurance.

I glanced at Nova across the room. She was quiet, staring down at her hands.

Later, I pulled her aside. Private. Away from everyone.

"What the hell, Nova?" I demanded. My voice was low, shaking with barely controlled anger. "You let her fight this alone? ALL THESE MONTHS? You knew! And you didn't tell anyone?"

Nova's eyes welled up.

"I… I promised her," she whispered. "She made me promise I wouldn't tell anyone. I… I couldn't—she was so stubborn, Cole. I couldn't betray her trust. I thought I could manage it. I thought I could keep her safe…"

Her voice broke.

I ran my hands through my hair.

"And look what happened tonight!" My voice cracked. "She almost died, Nova! ALMOST! You can't just keep a secret like that from people who care about her!"

"I know," she whispered. Tears streamed down her cheeks. "I know I made a mistake."

I exhaled slowly, trying to calm the storm inside me.

"We fix this now. Together. No more hiding. She's not going to fight this alone. Do you understand?"

"Yes," she said, nodding, voice barely audible.

I gripped her shoulder. "Good. Never again."

Lyra POV

Care's small hands trembled in mine as she woke.

"I… Lyra?" she whispered.

"I'm here," I said firmly. "I'm not going anywhere."

I hugged her carefully, stroking her hair. She let herself collapse into the embrace. For the first time in a long time, I felt her let go.

"You're… scared," I whispered. "I know. But it's okay. You're not alone."

She sniffled softly.

"I didn't want… to bother anyone," she whispered.

"You never did," I said. "But this isn't just about you. It's about all of us. We love you. We're allowed to be scared too."

She buried her face into my shoulder.

"I don't want people to see me weak," she said.

"You're not weak," I said firmly. "You're human. And it's okay to let people love you. Let us fight for you this time."

Her grip on me tightened.

"I promise I'll try," she whispered.

I smiled. "Good. That's enough for now."

Care POV

I let myself relax into Lyra's embrace. Into Ash's hugs. Into Cole's silent, protective presence.

For the first time in months, I didn't have to pretend. I didn't have to smile for anyone or hide anything.

I let them scold me, love me, protect me. And for the first time in a long time, I felt safe.

We all sat together after the storm of emotions settled.

I looked at each of them.

Cole, whose anger hid his care.

Ash, my sister in every way that mattered.

Nova, my anchor, quietly bearing the burden alongside me.

Ben and Daisy, learning for the first time how serious this really was.

And Lyra, my lifeline, reminding me that it was okay to let go sometimes.

I realized something important.

I couldn't do this alone.

And I didn't have to.

Group Decision

Cole finally spoke up. "She needs treatment. Proper treatment. Starting now."

Ash nodded fiercely. "No excuses. We're with her."

Lyra tightened her hand around mine. "We'll make sure she never has to do this alone."

Nova looked at me, voice soft. "Care… we'll do this together. You won't be alone ever again."

I felt tears prick my eyes.

"I… I'll do it," I said. "I'll try. I'll let you all help me."

Cole's jaw softened. "Good. That's all we ask."

And in that moment, as the hospital lights hummed softly around us, I realized how much love surrounded me.

I was fragile, yes. But I was also… completely, undeniably, unconditionally supported.

And for the first time in a long, long time, I felt like maybe… just maybe… everything would be okay.
