Chapter 9 - V1 Ch7- The Recovery...

Chapter 6 – The Fight Within

Care's POV

The hospital smelled like antiseptic and fear.

I hated the smell, but it was the place I had to be.

Each day, each treatment, felt like a test I didn't want to take—but couldn't escape.

The chemo was brutal. The needles, the exhaustion, the nausea… it left me drained. Some days, I couldn't even lift a spoon. Some days, I wanted to collapse in the floor and cry until no one could see.

But I didn't.

Because I had no choice.

I reminded myself every day: you can't give up. Not now. You've fought too long to stop here.

Even when my hands shook so badly I could barely hold a pen, even when my head spun and my stomach rebelled, I pushed forward.

I wasn't just fighting for me. I was fighting for everyone who had loved me, for everyone who had carried me when I was too weak to stand.

The pain was constant. But somewhere deep inside… there was a stubborn spark. I clung to it. I had to.

Lyra's POV

I hated seeing her like this.

Care—the unstoppable, untouchable girl—was now lying in a hospital bed, tiny and fragile. Her eyes closed, her skin pale, a blanket wrapped too loosely around her frail frame.

I couldn't believe this was the same girl who had once carried herself like an invisible stopper in the world, holding back everything that tried to pull her down. Now… she couldn't even hold a cup of water.

But I saw her fighting. Always fighting. Each time she sat up after treatment, each time she pushed through the exhaustion, each time she forced a weak smile—she was still the Care I knew. Still the girl who refused to quit.

I sat by her side for hours. Held her hand. Whispered stories. Told her about the silly things we would do once she got out of here.

"You're stronger than this," I whispered once. "And I'm not letting you face it alone."

Her fingers twitched against mine. She didn't speak. She didn't need to. Her determination was louder than any words.

Ash's POV

Every day felt like walking on a knife's edge.

I had to be Care's strength when she couldn't be her own. Carried her bags. Helped her walk short distances in the hospital. Pulled blankets over her trembling body. Whispered encouragements into her ear.

And yet… some days were impossible. Watching her cry quietly when she thought no one was looking, watching her wincing in pain after treatment… it tore me apart.

But each time, she lifted her head, smiled weakly, and whispered, "I'm okay."

And I believed her. Not because she was okay, but because she was brave.

I had to be brave for her too. For all of us.

Daisy's POV

I hated the smell of the hospital. Always had. And I especially hated the helplessness.

Care had always been my rival. Smart, fierce, unbeatable. Now… she was lying in that bed, so fragile, and it hit me how much we'd all underestimated the battles she'd been fighting alone.

I tried to make her laugh. I brought little things from outside. I joked. I teased. Sometimes, just seeing her crack a smile, even for a second, was enough to feel like we were winning some tiny battle in this war.

I hated that she had to endure this. But I also hated giving up. Care would never let us give up on her.

Nova's POV

I had never hated secrets so much in my life.

Keeping Care's tumor hidden had been necessary… but watching her lie there, struggling through every treatment, almost breaking… it was worse than anything I had imagined.

I held her hand during procedures. Whispered encouragement. Made sure she had water. Checked her vitals obsessively. Sat quietly when the pain was too much.

I hated that I had kept the secret for so long. But I knew she would have done the same for me.

I watched her, every tremor, every small victory, every tiny movement. And I silently vowed: I will be here. Always.

Cole's POV

I didn't do anything dramatic. I didn't fuss. I didn't cry.

I watched.

Every day, I showed up. Sat quietly in the corner. Adjusted pillows when needed. Shifted blankets when she fell asleep mid-treatment.

Sometimes I read. Sometimes I just looked at her. Her tiny, fragile body, fighting battles the rest of us couldn't imagine. Her determination, her stubborn spark, even through pain… it was almost unbearable to watch.

But she didn't give up. Not once.

And I wouldn't give up on her either.

Ben's POV

I hated seeing her like this. The unstoppable Care, who used to argue with me over every mark and beat me in class… now she was lying there, fragile, exhausted.

I found myself hovering, sometimes silently, sometimes making sure she drank water or had a bite to eat.

"She's like my little sister now," I whispered to Daisy once, and she nodded.

I never wanted her to see me cry, but each day, seeing her fight so hard while looking so small, I felt this immense urge to protect her, to be there for her in a way I had never needed to be for anyone before.

Every smile she managed, every tiny step she took forward—it felt like a victory for all of us.

Care POV

Each treatment day ended the same way: exhausted, drained, trembling, but alive.

Lyra would whisper encouragements. Ash would straighten my blankets and tease me into a smile. Daisy would make me laugh at ridiculous things. Nova would quietly hold my hand. Cole would sit silently, a steady anchor. Ben would hover nearby, protective, sometimes teasing, always caring.

And slowly, I realized something important:

I wasn't fragile. Not really. I was strong. Strong enough to endure the worst days. Strong enough to fight. Strong enough to let them love me.

Lyra POV

Some nights, when Care was asleep, I would sit by her bed and watch her breathe.

She looked so small, so delicate. The girl who had once seemed unstoppable… lying there, tiny, vulnerable.

And yet… I had never been prouder.

She was fighting, with every ounce of her strength. Every day, she survived the impossible. Every day, she refused to give up.

And that made her the strongest person I had ever known.

Ash POV

I never left her side. Not once.

I held her when she cried. I whispered jokes when she winced in pain. I reminded her that each small step forward was a victory.

Sometimes, I felt helpless. Sometimes, I felt rage at the illness that had tried to take her.

But mostly… I felt awe. Awe at her courage. At her will. At the quiet strength she carried, even when she looked like she couldn't.

Daisy POV

I teased. I joked. I laughed.

But inside, I cried quietly for her. Every day, every treatment.

And yet… I also smiled. Because every day, she survived. Every day, she kept moving. Every day, she proved that even the smallest, most fragile-looking person could hold the world on her shoulders.

Nova POV

I sat beside her, hand in hand. Whispered words of comfort. Checked her vitals. Cried quietly when she wasn't looking.

But I also smiled quietly when she clenched her jaw and lifted herself just a little higher after a particularly painful procedure.

She was fierce. She was stubborn. She was… Care. And I would never let her face this alone.

Cole POV

I watched her. Every day.

Every wince. Every tremor. Every tiny, exhausted smile.

I never said much. Didn't need to. My presence alone was enough.

And I knew… that one day, she would rise again. Stronger than ever.

Because I would be here. Always.

Because we all would.

Will they all really think the same in reality ???
