Chapter 7 - V1 Ch5-The Truth Revealed…

Chapter: The Night Everything Broke

(Care POV → shifting briefly to others during reactions)

The night had been perfect.

Too perfect.

The living room was filled with laughter, the kind that bounced off the walls and made everything feel alive. Lyra had barely been in the house for two hours, and yet it felt like she had never left.

Nova was sitting cross-legged on the floor, arguing dramatically about the rules of Truth or Dare.

"That was NOT a proper dare," she protested, pointing at Cole.

Cole leaned back against the couch lazily. "You said dare. I dared you to eat a spoon of hot sauce."

"You nearly killed me!"

Ash burst out laughing beside her.

I watched them quietly, smiling.

Every sound… every face… every little moment felt precious tonight.

Because somewhere deep inside, a quiet voice kept whispering that moments like this didn't last forever.

Lyra suddenly leaned over the table.

"Okay!" she clapped. "Care's turn."

I blinked.

"Truth or dare?"

Nova immediately grinned.

"Oh this will be good."

I thought for a second.

"Truth."

Ash groaned dramatically.

"BORING."

Lyra leaned forward, eyes sparkling.

"Fine then. Truth."

She paused.

"What's one thing you're most grateful for right now?"

For a moment the room fell quieter.

I looked around slowly.

At Nova.

At Ash.

At Cole.

At Lyra.

At all of them.

My chest tightened with warmth.

"I'm grateful…" I said softly, "…that for once everyone I love is in the same room."

No one spoke for a second.

Ash's usual playful smile softened.

Nova looked at me like she understood something deeper in those words.

Lyra reached across the table and squeezed my hand.

"You're getting sentimental on us already?"

I laughed softly.

"Maybe."

But suddenly—

Warm liquid slid down my lip.

I froze.

My hand came up instinctively.

Red.

Blood.

For a moment no one noticed.

But Nova did.

Of course she did.

Her expression changed instantly.

"Care."

My heart dropped.

Everyone turned.

Ash stood up immediately.

"Whoa—what happened?"

Cole moved closer quickly.

"Your nose is bleeding."

"It's fine," I said quickly, standing up. "Just dry air probably."

Nova was already handing me tissues.

Her eyes were sharp.

Too sharp.

"Go wash your face," she said gently.

I nodded and walked toward the bathroom.

Inside, I leaned over the sink, cold water running over my hands.

The blood kept dripping.

Not a lot.

But enough.

I stared at my reflection.

Pale.

Too pale.

The dizziness from earlier at lunch crept back quietly.

You're fine.

Just tired.

After a minute, the bleeding slowed.

I cleaned up and walked back out.

Everyone was pretending to act normal again.

Ash resumed the game loudly.

"Okay okay! My turn now!"

But Cole's eyes followed me the entire time.

Later, the game slowly died down.

Music played quietly in the background.

People scattered around the house.

Nova was helping Lyra unpack upstairs.

Ash was arguing with someone about movies.

And I stepped outside onto the balcony.

The cool night air felt nice.

The city lights stretched endlessly below.

For a moment I just breathed.

Then the door opened behind me.

Cole.

Of course.

He leaned against the railing beside me.

"You're not fine."

I sighed.

"I knew you'd say that."

"You almost fainted at lunch today."

"I didn't."

"You were dizzy."

"That's normal."

His voice lowered.

"No, Care. It's not."

I stayed quiet.

The wind brushed through my hair.

"I'm okay," I said softly.

But suddenly—

The world tilted.

The lights blurred.

My fingers gripped the railing.

Cole noticed instantly.

"Care?"

His voice sounded far away.

The dizziness slammed into me like a wave.

My knees gave out.

And everything went black.

Cole POV

"Care!"

Her body collapsed forward.

I caught her just before she hit the floor.

Her skin was cold.

Too cold.

"Care—hey—look at me!"

Nothing.

Her head fell limp against my arm.

Panic shot through my chest.

"ASH!" I shouted.

The balcony door flew open instantly.

Ash rushed out.

"What happened?!"

"She fainted."

Ash's face went pale.

"Call an ambulance," someone said inside.

"No."

My voice came out sharp.

Too sharp.

I lifted her into my arms immediately.

"We're not waiting."

Ash grabbed her keys instantly.

"I'm driving."

Nova appeared in the doorway.

Her eyes widened.

"No—"

But when she saw Care unconscious, her words died.

"We're going to the hospital," I said.

And we ran.

Hospital

The emergency room lights were blinding.

Doctors rushed her inside.

A nurse stopped us at the door.

"You have to wait here."

The doors closed.

Silence.

Heavy.

Ash paced like a storm.

Lyra stood frozen near the wall.

"What happened?" she whispered.

Cole didn't answer.

Nova stood perfectly still.

Too still.

Minutes passed.

Then a doctor walked out.

"Are you family?"

Nova stepped forward immediately.

"Yes."

"Can you come with me?"

She followed him down the hallway.

Everyone else waited.

Five minutes later—

Nova came back.

But something in her face had changed.

Completely.

Ash stepped forward.

"What did they say?"

She didn't answer immediately.

Her eyes moved slowly toward Care's closed hospital room door.

"They said…" her voice broke slightly, "…that she's extremely stressed again."

Again.

Cole froze.

"What do you mean again?"

Nova swallowed.

"They ran scans."

The room was silent.

Then the doctor stepped out again.

His expression serious.

"The tumor has worsened."

The words dropped like a bomb.

"What tumor?" Lyra whispered.

Ash turned slowly toward Nova.

"You knew."

Nova looked like the world had collapsed on her shoulders.

"Yes."

Cole's voice became dangerously quiet.

"How long."

"Months."

Ash slammed her fist into the wall.

"WHAT?!"

Lyra's hands covered her mouth.

"T-tumor?"

The doctor continued carefully.

"It's a brain tumor. The stress is making it worse. If this continues, the condition could become critical."

Cole's entire body went rigid.

A storm of emotions crashed through him at once.

Fear.

Anger.

Helplessness.

"She never told us," Lyra whispered, tears forming.

Ash's voice cracked.

"She was dealing with this… alone?"

Nova shook her head weakly.

"She made me promise not to tell."

Cole's hands curled into fists.

"She almost died tonight."

Nova's voice shattered.

"I know."

Ash looked like she might break something.

Lyra was already crying quietly.

But Cole…

Cole didn't say anything.

He just stared through the hospital room window.

At Care.

Lying unconscious.

Looking so small.

So fragile.

And something inside him broke completely.

"She thought she had to carry this alone."

His voice was low.

Cold.

"But not anymore."

He turned toward the room door.

Eyes burning with determination.

"Not anymore."
