Chapter 33 : A Meeting from the Past

In the past...

In the world of Ahnes...

In the Kingdom of Element, also known as the Kingdom of Humans, the capital city of Mahash was bustling with its usual activity around the Royal Palace.

Amid the towering buildings, the Royal Guards were carrying out their duties as usual.

Among those guards, a small child dressed in royal attire was walking around.

He was no ordinary child.

He was Crown Prince Obito of Ahnes.

The Royal Soldiers accompanying him were constantly keeping an eye on him. Suddenly, the Captain stepped forward and respectfully said,

"Prince, we should return to the palace now."

Obito stopped and looked at him.

A clear expression of displeasure appeared on his face.

"I don't want to go back to the palace!"

The Captain looked surprised.

"But, Prince, you have to return. If the King finds out that you were wandering around the city alone, then—"

Before he could finish, Obito suddenly turned around angrily and ran away.

"Prince!"

The soldiers immediately ran after him.

"Stop, Prince Obito!"

But Obito did not even look back.

He quickly left the city's main road and entered a narrow alley.

A few moments later, the soldiers reached the alley as well, but it had split into several different paths.

The Captain looked around anxiously.

"Where did the Prince go?"

The soldiers began searching through the different paths, but Obito had completely disappeared from their sight.

Meanwhile, Obito had already gone deep into the alley.

This place was completely different from the rest of the capital.

There was barely any light. Broken walls, old houses, and filthy ground made the area look frightening.

The people living in the alley quietly went about their business.

For the first time, Obito realized how different the world outside the royal palace really was.

He slowly began walking forward.

Then, his eyes fell upon a little girl.

She looked about five years old.

She was sitting alone near a wall, separated from everyone else.

Her clothes were different from those worn by the people of Ahnes. They were old and torn in several places, while marks of injuries could be seen on her face and arms.

The girl noticed Obito as well.

For a moment, their eyes met.

Obito silently stared at her.

At the same time, several people nearby noticed Obito's royal clothing.

One man said in surprise,

"That's royal clothing!"

Another immediately replied,

"Perhaps he wandered here from the palace."

A few people began moving toward Obito.

Obito stepped backward.

"Who are you people?"

But they continued approaching him.

For the first time, Obito felt fear.

Suddenly, the same little girl stood up.

She picked up a stone from the ground and struck a man on the back of the head.

The man stumbled backward.

The girl immediately grabbed Obito's hand.

"Come on!"

Before Obito could understand what was happening, she pulled him along and led him through another path in the alley.

The two of them began running.

After a while, they reached a relatively deserted area.

The girl released Obito's hand and began taking deep breaths.

Then she looked at him angrily.

"Who are you? And what were you doing in this deserted alley?"

Obito looked at her in surprise.

"You tell me first. Who are you?"

Anger appeared on the girl's face.

"If I hadn't saved you, those people would have taken everything you had!"

She paused for a moment before continuing,

"And they would have beaten you just like they beat me!"

After hearing her words, Obito looked at her carefully.

His eyes moved from her face to the injuries covering her arms and body.

He fell silent.

He could hardly believe that such a small girl had been forced to endure so much suffering.

Fear and sadness appeared on Obito's face.

"I'm... sorry."

He remained silent for a few moments before speaking softly.

"And thank you... for saving me."

The girl did not respond.

Obito composed himself and said,

"My name is Obito."

Then he proudly pointed toward himself.

"And I am the Crown Prince of this Kingdom."

The moment she heard this, the girl's eyes widened in surprise.

She stared at Obito for a few moments.

Obito silently looked back at her face.

Perhaps this was the first time someone had spoken to him without treating him according to his royal status.

He continued staring at the girl.

When she realized that Obito was still looking at her, she became irritated and said,

"Why are you staring at me?"

Obito immediately snapped out of his thoughts.

"I thought that if I told you about myself, you would be very surprised."

The girl replied indifferently,

"I am surprised."

Obito looked at her face and then said with slight annoyance,

"But you don't look surprised at all!"

She turned her face away angrily, then looked back at him.

"Now it's your turn."

The girl remained silent.

Obito asked,

"Now tell me your name. Who are you?"

The girl looked at him for a few moments.

Then she answered softly,

"My name... is Rin."

It was the first time Obito had ever heard that name.

And little did he know that this small encounter would one day change his entire life.
