Chapter 31 - The Mystery Box and the Game of Fate

The next morning, the main square of the Global Awakened Academy was decorated like a festival. It was the day of the annual "Mystery Box Festival." Merchants from all over the city came with magical boxes. No one knew what was inside them. Some boxes contained useless stones, while others held legendary swords worth millions of credits.

Hundreds of stalls were set up across the field. Students used their savings to buy boxes, their hearts beating fast with hope. Some cheered with joy, while others sat on the ground, having lost everything.

Arjun stood in a corner, wearing his old gray janitor uniform. He held his mop and bucket, but his eyes were different today. He wasn't looking at the ground anymore; he was looking at the world with confidence. Last night's system had changed everything.

"Look! Our famous janitor is here to try his luck!"

A loud, mocking voice echoed. It was Vikram. He was wearing expensive blue armor that sparkled in the sun. He walked toward a bronze mystery box that cost 5,000 credits.

Vikram paid the money and opened the box. Inside was a simple iron knife. People in the crowd whispered—the knife was only worth 100 credits. Vikram had lost a lot of money.

Vikram's face turned red with anger. To save his pride, he shouted at Arjun, "Hey, Arjun! You don't even have money for one meal. Are you just going to watch us, or do you have the courage to buy a box?"

Arjun spoke calmly, "I will buy a box too."

Vikram laughed loudly. "You? With what money? The few coins you get for sweeping floors can't even buy a candle!"

Arjun took out the golden coin from his pocket—the one the system had upgraded to Epic Grade. He walked past the expensive stalls to the very back. There, he found a dusty, broken wooden box. Even the shopkeeper thought it was trash and had thrown it to the side.

"I want this box," Arjun said.

The shopkeeper was surprised. "This old thing? It's been sitting here for ten years. It's only 10 copper coins. Are you sure?"

Arjun nodded. As he looked at the box, the system message appeared in his vision:

[System Scanning...]

[Item: Ancient Mysterious Chest]

[Chance: 99.99% Trash / 0.01% Godly Power]

[God-Level Luck Activated! Result: 0.01% Success Guaranteed!]

Arjun touched the lid of the box. Suddenly, an invisible golden wave entered the chest. The air became heavy. Even though there were no clouds, a loud bolt of lightning shook the entire Academy.

"What is happening?" someone screamed.

As Arjun slowly opened the lid, a bright silver light blinded everyone. The power of the light pushed people back. When the light faded, Arjun wasn't holding a rusty tool. He was holding a crystal gauntlet called "The God of Wealth's Grip."

The entire field went silent. The shopkeeper's mouth fell open. The teachers and elders ran toward him. They knew this was no ordinary item. It was a "Legendary Grade" item—something no one in the city had seen for a hundred years.

"This... this is impossible!" Vikram stammered. "A legendary item in a trash box? This must be a trick!"

Arjun put the gauntlet on his hand. Immediately, a message appeared:

[Congratulations! You have found your first Legendary Item.]

[Strength increased by 500 points.]

[New Skill Unlocked: "Treasure Sense" — You can now see hidden treasures within 1 kilometer.]

Arjun stood in front of Vikram. He didn't look down anymore. He looked stronger and taller than everyone else.

"Luck follows those who have patience, Vikram," Arjun said in a cold voice. "You tried to buy luck with money. I trusted my fate. Now tell me, who is the trash?"

Vikram wanted to fight, but the pressure coming from Arjun's new gauntlet was too strong. He couldn't even move. The students who were laughing a moment ago now moved out of Arjun's way with respect.

Arjun picked up his mop and bucket. He knew he was no longer just a janitor. He could now see every hidden treasure in the Academy.

He walked toward his room with a smile. This was only the beginning. His God-Level Luck would take him to a place where no hero had ever gone before.
