The holidays flashed by as the days started to blur together, waking up, training, enjoying life with his family before going back to sleep, everyday was fufilling for Dave
by the time that the new school year was nearly upon him Dave was a completely different person to the young boy he was at the start of the holidays
thanks to his relentless training and using other methods such as turtle hermit training which he was able to do thanks to his mom agreeing to let him deliver milk for some extra pocket money with a weighted turtle shell and other things but leaving out swimming in shark infested water and the dodging training or wearing incredibly heavey leg weights to emulate Rock Lee's training method, generateing the gear that he needed to do so, both of which netted him +2 bonus yellow energy each his yellow energy was multiple times higher and his body was much stronger as a result
the only problem was that the more he exercised the less effective it was, with it having no effect once he reached a max yellow energy of 99, seeming to need something else to get it to surpass the triple digits dividing line
thankfully although it was incredibly slow due to not knowing any way to improve his blue energy reserves without it being related to magic and his parents refusing to let him even use the most basic of spells before they knew what element he was as using the opposite element to his could lead to damaging his magic flow, meditating was consistant in it's increase and his magic reserves were now standing at 80
now that he had much higher magic reserves Dave was able to generate more complex and more numerous things with his powers, unfortunately due to not knowing how most things worked he wasn't able to create anything that he truely wanted and instead ended up using most of his spare energy after hitting a plateau with his yellow energy was to make ingredients for his mom to cook with as it allowed her food to be even more delicious
this also allowed him to find out that if the food he generated was used as an ingredient and essentially became a different food it was no longer considered to be something that he had generated and so he could gain energy from it
this led him to spending more time with his mom and he leaqrned how to cook from her, something she was more than happy to teach him how to do, meaning that by the end of the holidays he had become quite the little chef, something his father was also happy about as he got to eat all the creations
finally the day that would decide whether Dave was destined to be an average person, stuck gaining 1 blue energy a day and possibly being stuck at 99 yellow energy, or whether he would make it into the magical academy and make his power reach new heights with new techniques
"are you ready son?" asked Richard
"yes dad, I'm looking forward to this, it's why I've been training so hard" Dave said with a determined expression
"you have been training hard and your father and I belive in you honey" said Sapphire with a proud but slightly tearful look in her eye "and just know that even if you don't get in we're both so proud of how strong you've become" she said pulling him into a hug
"thanks mom" Dave reciprocated, hugging her back
"alright kid, let's go, we've got quite a drive ahead of us and we don't want to be late" Richard said, kissing his wife goodbye as they got in the car, Dave imediately meditating so as to improve his chances by even the smallest amount
"bye both of you, and good look honey" shouted Sapphire as she waved at the car as it drove off into the distance
the drive seemed to pass by in the blink of an eye for Dave due to the fact that he was in a deep state of meditation, it wasn't until his dad nudged him that he realised that the car had stopped
"wakey wakey sleepy head" Richard joked, knowing that Dave wasn't actually asleep "we're here"
stepping out of the car Dave was stunned by the sight of the building in front of him, the feeling of magic in the air completely different to his house
"students looking to take the entrance exam please line up over here" shouted what Dave could only assume was a teacher, his voice coming out loud and clear even though he didn't seem to be shouting, something Dave assumed was because of some sort of magic
"well this is as far as I can take you son" Richard said crouching down to Dave's eye level before pulling him into a strong hug "remember, your mother and I believe in you"
"thanks dad, I know" Dave smiled as he enjoyed the hug
"good boy" Richard said standing back up and ruffling Dave's hair "go get'em"
Dave did as his dad said and went to join the line
"well Gen, this is it, let's hope it's everything we dreamed" Dave said
"there's only one way to find out" Gen replied
and so Dave lined up and waited to find out what was in store for him in the test, having done everything he could think of, all he could hope was that it was enough.
