Chapter 17 - Chapter 17 — Possibility Doppelgänger

[Group Assistant: Functional Item: Possibility Doppelgänger, concept extracted from [Classic Bento].]

Price: 10 points.

After use, it summons a "possibility doppelgänger" of the buyer—formed from a different life trajectory.

The doppelgänger does not possess the original's memories, but it fully inherits every power system and skill set from that possibility route.

You may have the doppelgänger manifest independently for remote control, or choose to have it possess you for direct experience.

Each doppelgänger lasts 24 hours.

Each member may summon once per day.

The moment that description appeared, everyone sucked in a cold breath.

[Roasted Eggplant (Mash)]: !!! Sakiko-senpai?! Do you possess the authority to observe—or even interfere with—parallel worlds?! (shocked.jpg)

In Mash's world, observing and interfering with parallel worlds was something only the Second Magic, tied to the Root, could accomplish. Her shock was only natural.

[Classic Bento (Sakiko)]: Eh?! N-no, I don't! I have no idea!! And Mash, please don't call me "senpai"!! (flustered.jpg)

Sakiko's reply came immediately after—clearly, she was just as confused by the sudden situation.

No further explanation was needed. Curiosity drove the group members to buy Possibility Doppelgänger one after another—after all, ten points wasn't a high barrier.

Chaldea — Mash's Bedroom

Mash took a deep breath and confirmed the purchase.

In the next instant, another "her" condensed from nothing into solid form, standing right in front of her.

The same short pink hair. A similar face. Even the casual outfit style matched her own—only with details that felt more relaxed.

"So this is… another me?" Mash murmured.

She focused, trying to sense the doppelgänger's condition.

A few seconds later, a flicker of disappointment rose in her chest.

This possibility-route Mash Kyrielight seemed to be nothing more than an ordinary astronomy student. The magical energy within her was unremarkable. There were no traces of Heroic Spirit fusion. In other words, she was completely unsuited for combat.

"Just a normal student…"

Mash let out a soft sigh, her shoulders drooping slightly.

"I thought I might be able to summon a powerful combat unit—someone who could help Senpai more in the missions ahead…"

But as that thought flashed through her mind, a small, easily overlooked detail slammed into her like lightning.

Mash froze. Her pupils shrank.

This doppelgänger's age was wrong.

Twenty.

This possibility doppelgänger was twenty years old.

Mash Kyrielight was the sole survivor of Chaldea's Demi-Servant human experimentation. She wasn't a normal human—she was a defective artificial being.

Her body was fated to never live past eighteen.

Not even an omnipotent Holy Grail could change that cruel reality—because the Grail could only grant wishes whose method of realization was known.

Even Doctor Roman and the "universal genius" Da Vinci still had no answer for how to extend Mash's life.

She had always buried that fear of death deep inside, forcing herself to smile, focusing on fighting.

And yet now, a living, healthy, twenty-year-old Mash Kyrielight stood before her.

If this doppelgänger could be used as a reference… could the Holy Grail finally be used to extend her life?

She broke into a near-run, bursting out of her room—straight for Da Vinci's workshop.

Random Play — Rin's Bedroom

"Whoa!"

Rin circled the other "herself" again and again, letting out a small gasp of amazement.

The exact same delicate face. The same hairstyle.

But the aura was completely different. The Rin in front of her lacked her own bright, sly liveliness. Her gaze was clear, carrying the innocent bewilderment of someone untouched by the world.

Rin closed her eyes, focusing her will to sense the other's abilities.

Completely different from her own ether manipulation—this doppelgänger's power was resonance with machinery, a feeling strikingly similar to Seth's ability!

Rin snapped her eyes open. Staring at this alternate version of herself, a thought clicked into place.

"I get it! This is the me from the possibility where, back at the Helios facility, I didn't choose to follow my teacher's path—I joined the experiment team Seth was in instead!"

Stellaron Hunter Starship — Kafka

Within the Stellaron Hunters' ship, Kafka lounged elegantly against her chair back and paid points to buy Possibility Doppelgänger.

Another Kafka appeared silently in front of her.

The same purple-themed look—but the outfit was sharper, more streamlined, clearly designed for real combat.

Those brows and eyes still carried Kafka's signature allure, but the lazy softness was gone—replaced by blade-like sharpness.

This doppelgänger walked the Path of the Hunt, and her attainment was extremely deep.

"Hm?"

Silver Wolf, who'd been gaming nearby, froze, then instantly teleported beside the newly appeared Kafka. Without any hesitation, she poked the doppelgänger's waist with a curious index finger.

"Kafka, is this some new trick your chat group cooked up? A clone technique?"

Heavy metallic footsteps approached—Firefly, maintaining her SAM form to suppress her entropy syndrome, was drawn over as well.

Kafka remained seated, smiling faintly.

"This is the chat group's new feature after its upgrade—Possibility Doppelgänger. But, my dear… this isn't a simple copy."

In that instant, the Hunt Kafka moved.

Her speed surpassed the limit—like time itself stopped flowing in front of her.

Silver Wolf's vision blurred. A soft touch pressed against her back—Hunt Kafka had already appeared behind her, gently wrapping her arms around the completely unguarded Silver Wolf.

Silver Wolf's body went rigid. She hadn't reacted at all!

"This is the me from another possibility—one who walks the Path of the Hunt," Kafka's original body explained with a smile.

SAM's helmet turned slightly, its targeting never once leaving Hunt Kafka's movements.

A person could walk multiple Paths at once. Back when only Firefly remained of the Glamoth Iron Cavalry, she had pushed the Path of Propagation to nearly Emanator level. And her obsession with vengeance against the Swarm had also given her achievements on the Path of the Hunt—though far inferior to her Propagation.

Her low, calm synthesized voice sounded:

"Strong. She's gone very far on the Path of the Hunt—at least farther than I have."

Silver Wolf easily slipped free of the embrace—Hunt Kafka hadn't even used strength. Not only was Silver Wolf not angry, she was thrilled. She grabbed Kafka's arm and shook it excitedly.

"This is interesting, Kafka! Can your chat group pull people in now? Hurry—let me see the other possible versions of me!"

Kafka shrugged regretfully and patted Silver Wolf's hand in a soothing gesture.

"Unfortunately, my dear… not yet."

"Tch!"

Silver Wolf instantly lost interest. She pouted, slumped back to the side, and a handheld game console reappeared in her hands as she muttered:

"Boring…"

A few seconds later, she added:

"Next time you can pull people in, call me first!"

Aisen

In his room, Aisen summoned his own possibility doppelgänger.

A figure appeared in front of him.

A tall, lean man with strikingly handsome features—like a sculpture.

In the man's right palm, a cluster of orange-red flame rose silently.

Unlike everyone else's surprise or curiosity, Aisen remained eerily calm.
